Greetings!

It's been a while since my last flight-report, and I thought I'd share with you today a report about a recent flight home to Minneapolis after visiting family in Orlando over Memorial Day weekend.

After a good weekend with family, my wife and I made our way to the Orlando International Airport in the late morning of Monday, May 29. We had checked in online and were not checking any bags, and so made our way through security as soon as we arrived at the airport. At the time we arrived we did not have to wait long, and were soon on our way to the Delta gates. As we had sometime before boarding, we decided to go around the concourse for a walk. After walking to the end of our departure concourse, we turned back and walked down to see the international gates. While there, I saw a TAM 767-300 boarding for Sao Paulo, and at the end of the concourse one of the gates was being prepared for the arriving Emirates 777-300 from Dubai. We waited a while to see the flight arrive, and after we saw the 777 touchdown, began our walk back to our boarding gate.

Shortly before boarding, I was paged to the podium and was told I had been upgraded. It was a very nice surprise as when I had last checked the gate monitor, I was number 4 on the list, and only 2 seats were open. I offered the seat to my wife, but she said I could have it as she was planning on sleeping a bit and had bought a few snacks in the airport.

Once on board, I turned left up to my seat and settled into 4A. Here's a photo of the Emirates 777 I took once the jet-way was pulled back.

Another Delta 757 just about to leave for Atlanta.

It was certainly a beautiful day for flying, and shortly after our scheduled departure time, we pushed back and made our way to the runway. It's been a while since I've flown on the 757-300, and found the takeoff to be incredibly powerful!

Shortly after takeoff, I began to search for a good movie for the flight, and was impressed by Delta's wide selection of entertainment. I hadn't flown on a plane that offered seat-back entertainment in a few months, and so was looking forward to listening to some music and finding a good movie. The Flight Attendants soon came through to take meal orders, and I noticed that they were using their phones to show the meal choices to each passenger, which was something I had not seen before. Today, the choices were chicken or a salmon salad. Along with the meal order, I asked for a glass of wine and some water.

Lunch

The lunch was tasty, but I would have perhaps enjoyed a piece of bread or something else on the tray, as I felt a bit hungry after finishing. The Flight Attendant serving us was very friendly, and was more than willing to bring along some extra snacks when I asked for some pretzels.

The rest of the flight was very uneventful and peaceful and it was a nice way to cap off a good weekend with family.

Our route took us NW out of Florida, and up over Tennessee, Missouri, Iowa and finally, Minnesota. As soon as we had passed over southern Minnesota on the moving map, we began a slow and gradual descent for landing. Our landing back in Minneapolis was so smooth I could barely feel the wheels touch!

Greetings Matthew (757Fan) and thank you for sharing this report. Congrats on the upgrade, that adds a nice feeling to the flight back home. I agree, the meal looks a little sparse. Was the snack basket passed? Thanks again and happy flying.

Hi Matthew, thanks for sharing this flight and what a nice upgrade. Being a KLM FB Gold member myself, I was upgraded several times on Delta flights and never on KLM so I think the operational upgrade program of Delta is quite nice. The meal looks good and service overall seems impressive. What kind of seats do they have on the 757? No liet-flat ones I suppose?

Thanks for the comments, CounterSurprise! No, no lie-flat seats on the 757-300. I wish! Delta does have lie-flat seats on the 757-200's in their fleet that operate on some European flights though, such as JFK-SNN, PHL-LHR, etc. Great to hear about your success getting upgraded on some Delta flights!
