Hello Dear Reader,

This is the report of flight PG908 from Siem Reap International Airport (IATA: REP, ICAO: VDSR) to Bangkok - Suvarnabhumi Airport (IATA: BKK, ICAO: VTBS) with Bangkok Airways (IATA: PG, ICAO: BKP), in Economy class on Mar/09th 2020.

It was founded in 1968 and is a private owned regional airline based at Bangkok Airport. Is considered a Boutique airline due to the excellence of service and was elected for the last 5 consecutive years as the best regional airline by SkyTrax.

Currently has 40 airplanes: 15 ATR72, 16 Airbus A319 and 9 Airbus A320, with an average age of 10,5 years, operating routes to 28 destinations. The focus destinations are Phuket, Chiang Mai, Krabi, Koh Samui and Hat Yai in Thailand.

Departure airport

This flights was operated from the International terminal at Siem Reap airport. This airport counts with 2 Terminals (Domestic and International) and 1 runway. In 2019 had 3,9 million passengers (a 12% decrease compared with 2018) and 39.750 movements (a 10% decrease).

For this flight, was 2 check-in counters and took me almost 1 hour to check-in and just had a few people behind me. Apparently the staff was occupied dealing with passengers with excessive weight luggage, because for Bangkok Airways is only allowed to carry 20kg for economy class passengers even for international destinations and 40kg for business class passengers.

After check-in, I proceeded to the X-Ray screening and Passport Control. The passengers departure terminal have a couple of duty free stores and a wide offer of cafes and restaurants.

After check-in, I proceeded to the X-Ray screening and Passport Control. The departures area was very spacious, with resting places, stores and some restaurants & cafes.

Lounge

I went to the Plaza Premium Lounge using my Priority Card. It was located near Gate 1 and this lounge is from the same group of the one in London Heathrow Airport Terminal 2, which is the World’s Best Independent Airport Lounge for three consecutive years by Skytrax, so the expectations were high.

Due to the corona outbreak in Asia, at the entrance a temperature check was made.

The very spacious lounge has 2 seating area, dining area and bar. They offered cold and warm dishes and also an a-la-carte menu, mainly pasta and rice dishes, cooked in front of you!

Flight

The boarding gate for this flight was the number 4.

The airplane from the outbound flight arrived at 18h45 from Bangkok.

The schedule boarding time was at 19h05 and I boarded the airplane 10 minutes later.

This flight was operated by an ATR72-600, Registration HS-PZE, with 4,2 years old. The cabin is configured with 17 rows 2-2 and an additional last row just with 2 seats on the left and a stowage on the right. Galley and toilets are located in the back and in front is located the cargo compartment and then the cockpit, with a small corridor to be accessible by the crew. I was seated at 5D in Economy Class.

In total this aircraft can carry 70 passengers, all in economy class. The occupancy of this flight was around 70%.

The aircraft was ready and for 20 minutes we were waiting for the release. Finally at 19h48 started and taxied to the runway 23.

The actual departure time was at 19h54, 19 minutes after scheduled departure (at 19h35)

After take-off, the airplane flew West towards Bangkok.

10 min after departure, a meal was served. As the ATR have no ovens they served a “cold” meal: Fruits, bread and a chocolate, followed by a service of drinks.

This short flight was uneventful and I spent my time resting.

The aircraft landed on Runway 19R of Bangkok Airport at 20h51, 6 minutes after scheduled (at 20h45) and a flight time of 57 minutes.

We taxied to the stand 105 and arrived there at 21h00.

Arrival Airport

Bangkok Airport has 1 main terminal, split in Concourse A for Domestic Flights and Concourse B to G for International Flights and 2 runways.

The disembark was made by the airplane stairs and a 8 minutes bus ride to the airport.

After Passport Control (almost empty) I went to luggage carousel and I pick it up at 21h20.

Thank you very much for browsing through my flight report,

Conclusion

Bangkok Airways continues to give an excellent service for its regional network. The departure lounge looked very new, with a premium and high quality service. The airplane was also very new and the crew nice and sympathetic. The huge Bangkok Airport unfortunately was not very busy due to the Corona outbreak. We hope we can fly again very soon!
