Hello!

Welcome to this flight report from London Heathrow to Newark and back.
This trip was taken back in 2017.

I didn't take much photos from both flights, but its still worth posting online for a quick read.
Lets begin!

This wasn't my first time flying with Virgin Atlantic to Newark/ New York, but every time I am about to fly the route I get even more excited than the previous. I checked in, passed through security at Heathrow Terminal 3 and made my way airside to board todays flight.

Whilst waiting for my flight to board I did a little bit of plane spotting.

Iran Air Airbus A310
British Airways Boeing 747-400
TAM Airlines Boeing 777-300
Virgin Atlantic Airbus A340-600
American Airlines Boeing 767-300

Here is the bird that will be flying us over the pond state side.

Virgin Atlantic's Boeing 787-9 called Maid Marian.
Gate opened on time and smoothly welcomed everyone onboard.

Whilst taxing towards the runway we passed this beautiful Boeing 787-8 which is operated by Royal Jordanian Airlines.

In no time waiting around we thundered down the runway and up into the clouds.

I was very lucky and got the whole row to myself!

Don't mind If I do stretch out and have a economy styled business class seat.

Around an hour after departing Heathrow the crew came through the cabin dishing out the evening meal service.

I opted for the Sausage with mash, bacon and peas mixed in a beef sauce.
side dish was fresh salad and for desert was treated to the delicious chocolate Gu pod and Crackers for the little snack later on.

This also was accompanied with fresh orange juice, perfect meal with no complaints.

The majority of the flight was quite un eventful with clouds below and endless binge watching The Big Bang Theory and checking out the live flight tracker map. The crew did regular walks through the cabin offering drinks and snacks as well.

Around 7 and a half hours leaving London it was time to land into Newark Airport.

It soon got dark very quickly which provided the best views of New York City passing by.

I didn't manage to take any photos during the landing or passing through the airport.

The next day I set off into Connecticut state to explore the real countryside of east coast America.
Fresh snow fell in the early hours of the morning leaving the most breathtaking views.

I stopped off at a shopping mall in the middle of nowhere to try out my first Ihop experience. for starter I had the pancakes but also decided to have a filling chicken, bacon and cheese salad.

After a week exploring the states of Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York I made one last stop at a cool diner near the border of NJ into PA.

They had racing cars on display and tons of great food!

Driving back to the car rental drop of at Newark Airport offered great views of the cargo stands.

FedEx Boeing 757-200.

Not a lot happened inside Newark Airports departures area until we got onboard the flight home.
Like the arrival flight I was treated again to an amazing nighttime view of New York City as we climbed up into the sky.

Soon as the seatbelt signs switched of the crew came through with snack and a drink, I was given two orange juices and two packs of pretzels.

Little while later it was the evening meal service.

For the main I had the lasagne with vegetables, side dish of salad which has a random orange piece in it!
accompanied with a yummy lemon cheese cake and crackers.

Once again I got lucky and had the whole row to myself… JACKPOT!
I piled up the pillows and laid out across the three seats for a few hours sleep.

4 and a half hours of sleeping later I wake up close approaching the western coast Ireland.

The final meal of the flight was handed out which was this "lite" breakfast snack box.

Premium granola with strawberry yogurt and a tiny pot of two grapes and three melon cubes.
This in my opinion is very poor….nothing as bad compared to my experience with British Airways serving a bland sandwich with cheese spread and mould. But this did leave me feeling even more hungry than before eating.

We got into a holding pattern waiting for our turn to land
I managed to snap this British Airways A320 also waiting for their slot into Heathrow.

Cutting through the thick clouds and fog we landed safely into London Heathrow.

The seating on Virgin's 787s may look hard, but they are very comfy and spacious!

Thank you for reading this short basic report.

I have flown Virgin Atlantic's 787-9s many times across the pond and back over the years and I am sure this wont be the last.

Virgin is a great airline to fly from London the the states and back.
Good value for money, amazing service by the crew and guaranteed to feel comfortable onboard.

Have you flown on the 787 with Virgin? how was your experience?
Drop a comment below on yours .

Until my next report,
Keep flying and smiling :)

Hi Danny thanks for sharing this somewhat retro-report!

Wow a whole row to yourself in pre-pandemic boom times! Pretty lucky indeed.

The catering looks really good for a short TATL flight. Hopefully it’s gone back to this level by now.

    Thanks for sharing!
