After the two weeks time at Japan, going around Hokkaido during the winter season, enjoying the snowy white beautiful sceneries, immersing into the warm onsen,  tasting the fresh lovely seafood, it was time to go back to Hong Kong. After three years of COVID-19 pandemic, the miles are enough for me to get a business class ticket from Haneda to Hong Kong.

Staying in Shinagawa before flight, going to Haneda is not a difficult task. There is a direct train connecting Shinagawa to Haneda. It takes around 20 minutes only.

Travelling to Haneda airport, tokyo

You can find JR train and  Keikyu Railway train at Shinagawa station. For JR, you can take a train to reach another important airport - Narita Airport. It takes around an hour to get there. They are totally moving in different direction, so be careful and not to get the wrong airport and wrong train when departing at this station!

Even it is quite early in the morning, as the sky is still turning bright during the time of moving to the airport, the train station already gets quite busy, as the airport is also a hub for domestic flight connecting different cities in Japan.

The check-in counters open exactly 3 hours before the departure time of the flight. i arrive quite early and so there is not many passengers along the queue, and i get my boarding pass quite fast.

After passing through the immigration counters, it takes quite fast at this time though, I visited the lounge. Cathay Pacific has its own lounge at the Haneda Airport,  even though she gets not many flight a day to Heneda. As i remember there are about 2 flights a day, one at the morning and one before night, departing from HND to HKG, operated by CX.

Today the departure gate is at gate 107B, and the lounge is near gate 147. The attendant reminded me that it was quite a long way between them and be careful of the time.

Entering the lounge

The CX lounge is located on the 6/F floor, while the JAL Sakura Lounge is located on the 5/F floor. Some say oneworld business class flyer can also use the sakura lounge. maybe let me try it next time if i have chance.

The lounge looks like the Pier Business class at the Hong Kong International Airport. At one side, you would find a noodle bar. During the breakfast time, apart from getting sets of breakfast in western / japanese style, you can even get the Chinese Wuntun Noodles / Dandan noodles in the lounge. Finally i get my breakfast in japanese style and a wuntun noodle.

At the next side of the lounge, there is a drink bar and the sitting area. It was a great experience of sitting in a comfortable seat in front of the large window, watching the birds moving in and out of the airport, and enjoying the signature drink of cathay pacific at the haneda lounge. personally i love the haneda jade more .

Having a closer look of the airplanes from the lounge.

it is time to board the plane

After doing some shopping, it is about time to on board.

photo img_1403-copy

Today the plane is B-KQF, which is a boeing 777-300 ER, taking us back to the Hong Kong from Haneda. It was delivered to CX in 2013. The age was around 10 years.

Depart: HND 10:10
Arrive : HKG 14:20
About 2,906 km.

I did not get a better photo of the plane, due to the reflection of the glass inside the lounge.

Boarding was quite smooth. And i guess that there were not enough manpower, or they are busy serving other customers at that time. There was no FA standing next to the door, to check or guide passengers of the right direction to the right seat. luckily i remember that i need to take a photo of the mount fuji and know that i need to walk across the gallery to reach my seat at K aisle.

I picked the champagne as  the welcome drink.

The remote control and the seat control looks a little bit old, but still they function properly. And monitor is an interactive one, but somehow they lagged a little bit after i click on the screen each time.

There is overhead compartment for business class flyer for storing their carry-on luggage.

After take off, you would see Mount fuji, if you are lucky enough.

time to start the meal service

And it is time to start the meal service.

To Start:
Seasonal salad with Yuzu soy dressing
Smoked duck with spicy mayonnaise - grilled prawns and mixed vegetables
Green tea soba noodle with maitake mushroom

Main:
Grilled chicken with vegetable roll (mixed vegetables and Japanese rice with black sesame)

The FA worried that there is not enough Cathay Delight available on flight, so i ordered a coffee first. But luckily that there is enough. after enjoying the cathay delight, the coffee comes, but still i found it a little bit tired and so i ordered another cup of tea - Peppermint leaf tea.

it is always an enjoyable experience of having a glass of Cathay Delight in the sky.

Time runs fast and it is about time to arrive back Hong Kong. The taxi back to the terminal takes a long time as now they will use the new runway to land instead.

Conclusion

Everything was alright for the flight. As usual both airports offer efficient services for travellers. The lounge experience is great and i love the signature drink a lot.

I guess Cathay Pacific should make more effort for the staff though. I am not sure if it is due to the limited amount of manpower after the COVID-19, there was no one standing next to the door to greet customers / guide passengers where to sit. And seems the staff provide more friendly service to foreign travellers than local Hong Kong travellers.

Thanks for this entertaining report and the lovely photos that come with it!

The CX lounge in Haneda receives plenty of accolades and you really showed why.

Post-covid CX has experienced some criticism for the drop of quality of their inflight service. Would you agree?

Hokkaido, Mount Fuji and even Tokyo Tower look very nice under your lenses. I was wondering what kind of photographic equipment were you using (hope this is not an indiscreet question...)

I did not enjoy CX service before (but tried SQ before and really bring stunning services even in econ :P) emmm, I guess seems that the lack of manpower brings some troubles to the service, like those FA at business class seems get more busy and it is a little bit rush / hurry for delivering the meal / collecting the meal back (somehow feel stressed when i am still enjoying the meal / ice cream slowly......). apart from the point that no one guide passengers at the entrance door when boarding as they are busy doing something else, seems they are not that charm compare with those videos from youtube.

I get an Sony mirrorless camera (sony a7riii) for some photos. i love taking photos of scenery / landscape etc... and made some adjustments at Photoshop. It is just my hobby only :D . I mainly use the iPhone for some other snapshots.
