Amsterdam – Paris CDG (KLM, Europe Business Class, B737-800)
[YOU ARE HERE] Now that I know more about KLM long haul product, I was equally (almost) interested to try their Europe Business Class concept and compare it with sister company AF that I know quite well.
Immigration and security went fast and we arrived within minutes at the Shengen crown lounge, my family will continue to Nice while I will be on my own for this flight to Paris.
When we arrived at 5.15am it was pretty desert, but it filled up quickly
Shower was clearly needed, nothing fancy there but with correct amenities and towel!
Breakfast buffet selection is limited and was not very appealing
My selection only consisted of croissant filled with chocolate and a yoghurt
Time to leave
My aircraft is the expected 737-800
I am boarding among the last
Press available with French newspapers
And we got stuck in the jetbridge, it was freezing outside and coming from middle-east I was not wearing very warm clothes
Off we go, cockpit crew is announcing a 45 minutes flight as well as our routing.
5 rows of Business class
Service consisted of the distribution of a cardboard mealbox
Menu
And this is a pleasant surprise, warm croissant, yoghurt, fresh fruit and smoked salmon, served with fresh OJ in a real glass and coffee in a real cup, why can’t AF offer the same, instead of their pre-packed Tropicana OJ and cardboard cup instant coffee?
Fresh fruit salad Forest fruit flavoured fresh curd cheese
Cold cuts Featuring cucumber cream cheese and smoked salmon
Cutlery are plastic but similar in design than the one used for long-haul
loo time!
And we soon started our approach from the west.
Passing through AF planes at “hotel” area
Docked at Terminal 2F1

Conclusion
KLM clearly did their job for this flight, crew was attentive and they offered refill of coffee, I really liked the use of real cups and glasses. Their breakfast box is using only cardboard and plastic materials which look cheap, the same stuffs presented in a real one tray tableware would have been perfect.
Quality wise fruits were ok and smoked salmon was good, I liked the warm croissant.
Thank you for reading this series, I hope you liked it, and stay tuned!
My next report is coming very soon and I will take you through a 5 star journey XD

Thanks for this latest FR. I do agree that a real tray would be a classier way to present the meals than a box. But still, on such a short hop, KL's business global service is better than AF's.
I echo the compliments on your airplane pictures and wanted to add that the catering ones are just as great. The lounge selection is a bit limited as you said. I see a lot of sweet items but hardly any savory choices except for the eggs. A plate with cold cuts or smoked salmon would be a nice addition.
For a short flight, the inflight meal seems fine and adequate. It's nice to see printed menus but if one can bother with this detail, why not put real silverware instead of plastic ones? That cheapens the experience somewhat.
Smurf for this report with smurf airline :) As you smurf, I don't smurf the Crown Lounge too much, but the smurf onboard isn't too bad, except for the plastic cutlery. It doesn't smurf a J cabin.

The lounge looked quite crowded when you were there, early morning rush I suppose.

Gorgeous pictures as usual
The lounge offer is not appetizing

Onboard catering is decent but the cutlery is a shame
