Report No: 2023-910
Dear folks,
Welcome to second Spirit report which would cover the opposite direction of my previous travel which I again decided to fly Spirit Airlines for $42.90 one-way, since that Sunday evening legacy carriers were asking for high amounts and for a red-eye flight that I planned to sleep, I didn't think it was worth to pay extra to fly one of them especially when having Free Spirit Gold status.
I would also cover the American Express Centurion Lounge at LAX TBIT which I visited before this flight.
Loads for this flight:
Economy Class: 95-100%
The day of my flight, I have arrived at LAX via bus to the City Bus Terminal which I took the shuttle bus to the terminal. While the bus doesn't run every 10 minutes at advertised, the wait times were decent on that day.
I took the bus to Terminal 4 instead of Terminal 5, since I was planning to go to the AMEX Centurion Lounge in Terminal B and since the AA doesn't have that much red-eyes since COVID out of LAX, there was no wait over the TSA Security checkpoint at Terminal 4.
Then I walked to TBIT via the inter-terminal connector.
I was able to access this lounge via my American Express Platinum card.
Since the lounge was crowded, due to the privacy of other guests, I haven't taken much photos of the seating area.
The food available that day are as below which had 4 hot dishes.
And some lentil soup
The salad options and the desserts
Also one of the coffee machines near the bar was out of order, however, the ones at the back of the lounge were functioning properly.
My selection for the day
The lounge also has a dedicated area for AMEX Centurion card members as well as a spa, which was closed during my visit due to the late time of the day.
Showers are also available at the lounge. Despite not needing one that day, I have noticed a wait for them.
I have found a cubicle table for myself with power for the duration of my stay at the Centurion Lounge.
About an hour before the departure time, I have left the lounge in order to walk to Terminal 5 for my flight, which would take about 10 minutes.
FIDS for the day
I have arrived at the gate about 50 minutes before the flight and most of the seating was taken.
Our bird, N930NK was at the gate at that time.
At the gate area, I noticed this, but the pranksters game was over as the sticker is torn off.
Boarding did not start on time and about 40-45 minutes before departure an announcement for a confirmed upgrade to exit-row seats and Big Front seats were offered through the speaker. Some passengers were also called to the podium.
I did bid $28 for a Big Front Seat upgrade through the Plusgrade portal on the Spirit website ( which was a couple dollars higher than the minimum bid ) but my offer was rejected.
Boarding started about 30 minutes before scheduled departure time with the respect of priorities.
Here is a fuselage shot
After being welcomed by the crew, I have gone ahead to my seat which was located in the exit row.
Obviously, the exit row has the most generous legroom on this aircraft which I was able to select it for free due to my Free Spirit Gold status.
Our neighbor was another Spirit A320neo
Overhead panel - Since Spirit charges for carry-ons for non-status passengers, the overhead bins were mostly empty
The seat back pocket contained the BoB menu and the safety card
While I heard the boarding completed announcement, I felt very lucky since I had the entire row to myself and since armrests move, I thought that I could lie down for the duration of the flight and have a better sleep but the owner of the aisle seat showed up shortly. At least the middle seat remained empty throughout the flight.
And, we were on our about on time
After a taxi, we have took off about 10 minutes later than our scheduled departure time
I have woken up briefly during the flight at the pre-landing announcement and was able to browse the Wi-Fi pricing.
Enter text here…
The Wi-Fi portal also has a flight map which I really appreciate as it provides essential flight information.
I have slept for most of the flight including the descent and landing and woke up just when we landed at Baltimore, where we have landed 20-25 minutes ahead of schedule.
It was as short taxi to our gate
Which was D8 for the day
We have parked at the gate 13 minutes before our scheduled arrival time.
After leaving the aircraft, I have took the last photos of N930NK
And then headed towards the exit
Since I was heading south to Washington DC, I was going to take the commuter rail so I did wait for the shuttle which arrived within a reasonable timeframe.
And, I have left the airport with the shuttle
And this report has came to an end,
I hope you enjoyed reading it and I hope to see you in another Flight-Report.
While the flight was smooth, flying Spirit on a red-eye and saving the additional money was totally worth it as I slept for the entire flight except for a few minutes after a loud announcement woke me up before landing. The seats are decent and the exit row legroom is great. The Wi-Fi is expensive for a red-eye flight which I skipped.
The AMEX Lounge at LAX was decent and had a good selection of food and beverages for a credit card lounge. The only handicap is that it's hard to find a seat and I needed to tour a bit to spot people leaving so I could immediately grab their seats.
The airport experience at both LAX and BWI was pleasant for this occasion.

As with the previous flight, it's pretty spartan, but no different from flying TAP, Iberia, Finnair or AerLingus within Europe.

The Wi-Fi prices are crazy expensive. I don't know why some airlines put them that high because historically, they don't sell it with such prohibitive pricing. It hardly seems worth the investment to install if no one will use it because it's too expensive. $20 for streaming speed is ONLY acceptable for long-haul flights--it's crazy to pay that much for a domestic flight.
