After my enjoyable ride on Air Tahiti I rush to the transfer desk trying to get on an earlier flight to SYD as we arrived in AKL nearly 20 min earlier than scheduled. However I am told the flight I was trying to ride on is full, so I am going to relax and do plane spotting.
The Qantas 737 connecting AU and NZ (Trans Tasman) are operated by Jet Connect, fully owned Qantas subsidary. The crew comprises of manly young kiwis, who are traditionnally friendly and helpful. The plane, crew uniform and cabin products and services are those of mainline Qantas.
Today's flight is operated by ZK-ZQG. Jet Connect planes are on the NZ register (VH is the AU one). My third time on this aircraft.
After a solid two hours of great spotting (see at the end of this report), I make my way to the new wing of AKL airport, which is dedicated to Emirates A380 ! Today it is really a Qantas family reunion with 2 x 737 (including mine), a Jetstar A320 and a cousin Emirates A380 in the background on remote stand.
Access to the new wing
The AKL Airport signage is always colorful….using language appropriate for the destination
Time to board. That wing of the terminal is brand new. Very spacious and modern.
Docked at the gate…

The traditional row of 3 seats in the economy cabin of the 737. I have the aisle seat, as always when travelling in economy…
The pitch is not bad, but since I am tall, there is no such thing as being comfortable in the economy class….
QF inflight magazine. A note on unruly passenger. Very big issue for airlines these days. A diverted flight due to unruly passenger can cost up to $100,000 to an airlines, thus the need to make sure passenger behave on flights.
The Q entertainment system is pretty groovy. Navigation can be done through the remote control or touch screen.
There is a good selection of about 20 movies and a few TV documentaries and series. Sadly no French movies that month !
The quality of the air show map is impeccable.
A simple meal was serve. Must say it was delicious….

Now let's the plane spotting begin…. A few exotic tales

The third Emirates A380 of the day is arriving !
One of the 3 Emirates A380 is towed to a remote stand as its flight back to DXB is scheduled later on in the afternoon
The magnificent livery of Fiji Airways on the A330-200. Can't get enough of it.

Conclusion
A very nice way to end my trip to Tahiti. A full flight yet still enjoyable. Qantas always provides with a consistent and solid offering in economy class. The Bolognese Pasta was superbe, the IFE is of really good quality. The IFE is already turn on as the passenger takes their seats, thus passenger can start the movie without having to wait for cruising altitude...
Ontime performance was 100% Both AKL and SYD Airport are easy airport to go through. Both comfortable and spacious. Free wifi is available yet limited to an hour.
