Flight Review EY004 from Munich to Abu Dhabi
Hello everyone.
I wanna share my trip to Down Under - Melbourne, Australia - with you.
Trip Overview
1st Segment: MUC > AUH – YOU ARE HERE
2nd Segment: AUH > MEL – EY462
3rd Segment: MEL > AUH – EY463
4th Segment: AUH > MUC – EY003
Pre Flight @ MUC
It snowed quite a lot in Bavaria during the night before the day of my departure.
Thankfully my flight was late at night so I was pretty sure that there will be no delays as the things at the airport should have been sorted out by the time my flight departed.
Everything went as expected and I arrived about 2.5 hours before departure at the airport.
Check in as well as security checks were done quite quickly, which give me plenty of time to look around MUC Terminal 2.
A lot of heavies depart MUC for their long journey to the east in the evening.

LH A350 to HKG
And finally my …

Boarding started well on time and it took a while to fill the big B777-300ER as the flight was full.
Flight time itself was calculated with just 5.5h, there was no big rush and my connecting time at AUH was not bad with about 2h.
My seat in the EY B777-300ER.
It was not my first flight in the B777-300ER of Etihad, so I knew what to expect.
The seat is - in my opinion - one of the better one in the 3-4-3 configuration.
Cabin during boarding.
View from my seat in the back of the aircraft.
When we were pushed back, Oman Air A330 to MCT was already on the way to the runway.
While deicing was going on, we overtook her!! :D
On our way to the runway - you can see the snow which fell over the night before.
Departure and airborne (view of MUC Terminal 2)
Takeoff was unspectacular and when we reached cruising altitude, the crew started with the preperations for the meal service.
In genereal there is just one meal searved on that MUC > AUH flights and vice versa.
EY did not offered any meal card this time. You got the information what was offered when the crew was at your row.
As starter, a noodle salad was offered followed by chicken for the main course.
Dessert was a chocolate cake.
Overal the meal was not bad and tasted quite good.
After dinner I listened to music and fell asleep as we were over Turkey.
Well … as I was dreaming about that and that, I cannot tell you what happened or if there were any bumps on the way.
Overall the flight was quite calm when I was awake.
I woke up when we were over Basrah, Iraq and heading towards the Persian Gulf.
The sun rose on the horizon as we came closer and closer to AUH.
That view is just amazing, thats one of the reasons why night flights into the morning are always so enjoyable!
Landing in AUH on a fine Monday morning was just spectacular.
Check out the pictures.
Touchdown … 1st Segment is done! Just another 17h to go until Down Under!
Beautiful sunrise at AUH.
Signature picture of AUH … the control tower in his unique shape.
It is quite common in AUH to arrive at a remote gate - so it was this time.
Until that point I have never arrived at a Terminal gate in AUH - but that changed on my return flight when I arrived in AUH from MEL.
Post Flight @ AUH
You might know … the airports in the middle east are always quite busy. It does not matter what time it is!
So it was on that Monday morning - nevertheless … security checks and all that stuff was quite easy and fast.
Thanks for this FR.
Well the cost cutting is once again visible, the menu cards are not really missed but the catering has clearly decreased in quantity and quality.
It remains nevertheless an enjoyable experience.
Hi, yes you're right ... I really miss the menu cards, it was always nice to have something for your own collection. The food was okay and - for me - enough. Because it's also a night flight I wasn't too hungry.
