LA4591
Date: 22/05/19
Origin: Foz de Iguassu – Cataratas IGU
Destination: Rio de Janeiro – Galeao GIG
Departure: 16.25 (16.30 real)
Arrival: 18.25 (18.05 real)

The day before I arrived from Buenos Aires to the Argentinean city Puerto Iguazu and crossed the border to the Brazilian Foz de Iguassu. I stayed overnight. The following day I had some time to kill. Then I went to the local bus terminal (TTU), which was 100 m from my hotel. There is a local urban bus to the airport and it costs 5 reais.
Some rainy views from my room.

I was checking the timing for my flight with Flight Radar app

After 20 minutes I arrived at Foz de Iguassu Cataratas Intl Airport. From the outside It seems a much bigger airport than the one on the Argentinean side. But when you get inside it´s disappointing.

The entrance hall looks from the early 80´s. There you could find some airlines offices and little kiosks. To get to the area where the check in counters are you had to pass through security control where they scanned the luggage. Only passengers were allowed to this part.

There were counters for all the airlines flying to IGU. On LATAM´s counter the agent dispatched my suitcase to my final destination (Milan – Linate LIN). The agent checked if my passport had the right stamps of Argentina and Brazil migrations office on the border. Then she printed boarding passes for the following three flights.

Then I had to pass to the regular security check to get to the boarding lounge. It was such an awful place! The only more awful boarding lounge I´ve been to is at my home city airport, ROS. There were a couple of bars and some dreadful toys and souvenir shops. The only interesting thing I could find was a book stand there you could help yourself and take any book you wanted. Then put the money in a box or passed your credit card. The prices were suggested. From what in understood it was an initiative from a local NGO, to get more people reading books. What a great idea! The other interesting thing I was the platform view from the windows, as the boarding lounge is on the ground level. There wasn’t any free Wi-Fi, and I also couldn’t get any mobile internet signal from Argentina. So, this was a long wait for me.

About 45 minutes after my flight, the LATAM A320 PT-MYX arrived from GIG. A couple of minutes later they announced the boarding was about to start on this order:
- Passengers with status, small children or another type of priority
- Passengers without cabin luggage or only with a personal object
- Passengers with cabin luggage

Half an hour before takeoff I boarded through stairs. I was surprised to see many fellow Argentinean nationals on this flight (many of them shared with me the rest of the flights).

The interior of this A320 looks cooler than LATAM Argentina´s one. But seats on this aircraft were as hard as a rock.

Some platform views from my seat: AZUL´s Embraer, the canarinho.

At 16.20 the crew introduced themselves and they played the security demonstration on the screens above the seats. Minutes later we took off heading east.

I had a very brief view from the Iguazu Waterfalls. It made me want to come back soon!

photo img_1139

The flight happened uneventfully. The service consisted in free water, and products from LATAM Market, for those interested in purchasing goods. The mobile app LATAM Play wasn´t working well. Whenever I tried to access the entertainment system the web browser offered me the prices for the WIFI service. I wasn’t interested on buying this, I just wanted to see the flight map.

At 17.30 they announced we were descending and I started spotting some huge ships on the sea near Rio. After some turning, we landed and headed to Terminal 2.

When I was getting of the plane, I asked one of the FAs how to get from Terminal 2 to Terminal 3 (where my Lufthansa flight was departing from), and she told me there was a corridor and I didn’t have to leave the building.

What she didn’t tell me…it was quite a long walk!
