So I choose to go to the airport by bus. Here are all the buses that goes to T2. I choose to go to T2, because I can find the MRT station there for me to return my EZ-LINK card. Remember, Cathay is operating at T4, so go take the airport shuttles to go to T4. Here is a picture of my last view at the bus.

On my way to the T2 MRT station, I saw the airlines offices. One of the best design is the United.

The Cathay counter was at T4 gate 5. It’s very easy to access to. After sending your luggage, you have to go through the security check and the Customs. Then, you will saw a bunch of recreational stuff and shops, which doesn’t appear in most airport.

After we arrived our gate, 19A, I started having some plane spotting. (The pictures include my CX691 trip)

At about 12:20, they started to let us board. One world and Cathay members are allowed to go first, followed by Business class passengers. As an economy passenger, I am obviously the last ones, after Premium Economy. As the flight is full today, I strongly recommend you to line up as soon as possible to avoid they 200-people queue. Our plane today is B-LRS, a 5.5 year old A350-900. Cathay are starting to operate their flight mainly on A350, with small amount of A330, A321neo and 777. I think that they did that on purpose, as A350 is famous for less fuel burning so they could save more money.

Seat features

According to the Cathay website, our seat today features an 11.1 inch monitor. We also get an adjustable headrest. Even though the seat plan was the normal 3-3-3, I found it extremely wide in terms of Economy and it provides great legroom. I am about 170 cm, and I still have loads of space in front. Sadly, this seat doesn’t offer you a remote control. The space have been used as a cup and phone holder. And actually, even though you get a window seat at seat A and K, you will be struggling to leave your seat as there are  2 people next to you. The D,E,G was way better as you have 2 ways to exit. My seat today was 46K.

The table was in a nice size, as it was foldable. The adapters jack was under your seat, which I spent a few minutes to find them. The earphone jack was in the armrest, which I need to ask for help to find that! ;) There are some storage space, but definitely not much. They have provided you with a headphone which was really thin. Here are some photos of the headphone and the safety card.

takeoff

Pushback started at around 1pm. That was a 5 minute delay, but I don’t really care as I am not transferring to another plane. Then, there was a LONG taxi to the runway-it almost take 20 minutes. That is what happens when you are in a big airport. Here are the photos that I took during taxi and takeoff. Finally, at around 13:35, we took off! Yay!

Inflight Entertainment system and wifi

Cathay was famous for their ice, CXStudio, and it does it disappoint me. There are a wide range of film choice, include some new ones. You can also listen to songs there, from singers like MIRROR, Terrance Lam and even Dance Monkey by Tones and I XD It also have the live BBC news, but the quality is not really great. You can also look at some old TV episode. I watched MIRROR GO and a Hong Kong film called 阿媽有左第二個. But at the same time, I was disappointed by their games and Wi-Fi. They have games from 10 years ago. That is unacceptable. You may think that you can BYOD, but that’s not good too. Their wifi is laggy and disconnected sometimes, and it surely doesn’t worth the money. You can go to Cathay website to check out what was playing on your flight.

Meal

I swear, this is the best on flight meal I’ve ever tasted. First, they give us a ‘starter’, which is some peanuts and drinks. I found that you should match it with apple juice as the peanuts were salted. They served the starter at around 1415, then distributed meal to me at 1500. We have 2 choice as lunch today: chicken with rice and seafood noodles. I chose the chicken rice and it turned out to be the right choice-the chicken was perfectly cooked. It’s the greatest chicken I’ve ever tasted. The rice was a bit hard, but ok for me. The rice and the chicken was hot, so be careful when you open the box. They also serve it with some fruit like watermelon, melon and hami melon.(A melon box XD) They also give us a new drink, a bread and a cup of häagen-dazs ice cream. The bread was dry, not reallly warm and they only give us butter. The ice cream tastes good. The greatest thing I’ve noticed is that they give us METAL UTENSILS!!!! That’s very rare nowadays!!!!

some post meal thoughts

The toilet was extremely busy, so I recommend you to go to toilet at the airport. Luckily, the person in front of me doesn’t know how to recline the seat, so I have some good space. The head rest was kinda useless, as the seat is too straight. You will automatically slide down a bit to sit comfortably, which means you may not use the headrest. Sadly, the kid at the back started kicking about 10 minutes before touchdown, which is really annoying. And there was a mild turbulence during the distribution of the meal, which the crew have to stop distributing. The tv immediately popped up ‘we will stop distributing hot drinks’ LOL

Landing

We landed safely at around 1655, which is 20 minutes before the schedule. It is very common nowadays on Cathay-small delay, long taxi, early arrival… I even spotted a Cathay Dragon during taxi!!!! Vamos!!!! At 1710, we arrived the gate and we started leaving in order. As they only opened the front door, I got the chance to look at the huge business class cabin :) I wish I could be there on my next flight. I even got you guys a video of landing hope you enjoy!

Conclusion

The cabin crew was extremely helpful and nice, which they helped to fix my brother’s IFE. They also provided hot drinks and blankets anytime you want. The cabin is also looking new. The food was great. The seat was well padded and it has some generous legroom. The IFE system is also nice, but the wifi was poor and toilet was dirty. The toilet was busy at all times, so you should go to the toilet at the airport before takeoff. The wifi is also slow and laggy, but overall, I definitely think it was a great economy experience.

Hi there, thanks for sharing your first review here with us and welcome! A CX A350 is a very nice way to fly a regional flight with the comfortable seats and power/IFE etc. Your experience with boarding is very similar to my, admittedly limited, experience flying CX--boarding always seems chaotic, even when flying J. You always just have to make sure you get in the queue since there seems to be no particular boarding order. Looking forward to future reports!
