Hello FlightReporters
After finishing my university exams in mid-July I started to plan many activities for September
A dear friend and I decided to make a long weekend in Berlin around mid-September
He had never been there while I've visited it in 2014
For me it would have been an occasion to see the German capital with a different eye
A couple of days before my journey to Vietnam and Cambodia we booked the flight and the hotel
The best solution was with easyJet from FCO to TXL
Departure was set for Thursday 12nd September
Having the flight at 10.20 my friend and I decided to meet at the airport around 8
This would allow us to check-in, drop our baggages and pass through security
My dad brought me to the airport
Since there was a bit of traffic we arrived at Roma-Fiumicino "Leonardo Da Vinci" International Airport around 8.15
Since my friend was already arrived my dad left me at the kiss and ride
Terminal 1, base for Alitalia's flights
Terminal 3, which hosts most of the flights at FCO
easyJet departs from here
The departure hall was a bit crowded
Old-style FIDS
Our flight, reported to be ontime, was handled at check-in desks 307-312
The gate was already showed, C15
The oldest part of the Terminal, renovated in 2017
easyJet uses almost an entire desks' line
During booking we made also the check-in and printed our BPs
It took around 10 minutes to get to bag drop desk
The lady at the desk confirmed the boarding gate C15
Having nothing to do landside we proceeded straight to the checkpoint
Even if the airport was quite crowded it took 6 minutes to get airside
Turning right to boarding areas B-C-D, which handles all domestic and Schenghen flights
Extra-Schenghen flights are handled at gates E
Gate C area has a good choice of Italian shops and food
The departure lounge
None of the C gates is equipped with with jetbridges, they are all bus gates
Plane spotting was almost impossible
AZ A320s parked at Pier B
At 9:40 boarding was called at gate C15
While most of the passengers doesn't like boarding by bus, for an avgeek like me is a good occasion to spot planes

…and in the air
Crossing RWY16R/34L
It's generally used for heavies' landings at FCO
Fiumicino town and Roman coastline
Banking over Tyrrean Sea
Approaching land again
Bracciano Lake, north of Rome

Last moments on air
We would have land on RWY26R
Perfectly on time, at 12:35, we touched down at Berlin-Tegel "Otto Lilienthal" Airport
Landing was a bit bumpy

No doubts about the location
Alitalia A321 pushing back
We were parked at a remote stand in front of Terminal C
While desembarking I asked for the Flight Report
It was filled properly
I really like pilots' kindness with it
Last views of our plane
Bye Bye OE-IZE
Even if the Terminal was close, we were carried to the baggage claim by an apron bus
Qatar Airways Boeing 777 landing
The warehouse-style Terminal was quite horrible
It looked like CIA or other low cost airports
We waited for the baggages around 5 minutes
The main hall, which serves both arrivals and departures
Having our hotel close to Tiergarten and Kaiser Wilhelm Kirche we decided to take a taxi
It brought us there in about 25 minutes
To be continued…
I've already flown with EZY and I found the service decent as usual
The seat was quite tight, especially in width
FCO is always a great airport to fly to and from. It is improving the Schenghen part with a new shopping area and a boarding pier
I find a bit difficult to define TXL an airport, it's small, cramped, dirty and surely not enough for a capital city like Berlin
Hope the situation will improve with the opening of Berlin-Brandeburg Airport (maybe 2020, who knows)
