Carrying on from my last review…

I woke up at the JumboHostel to discover an Emirates Airbus A380 sitting outside the hotel. It was A6-EDZ which has recently had a sticker printed on its fuselage. I was later to find out it diverted due to a medical emergency and the small child who was ill unfortunately died.

I got some pictures of the JumboHostel before leaving.

I also got a shot of some Boeing 757-200F of UPS & DHL.

I got on the BETA bus back to the SKYCITY and caught some more departures and bought a bus ticket to get to the Spotters Hut. I initially got on the wrong bus into a local village and quickly jumped on the right bus heading my way. Getting some pictures as I went.

I got to the Hut. But they switched to the wrong runway, to my frustration. I got the Finnair Carravelle and some stored MD-80 as well as some distant arrivals and departures before getting back to the SKY CITY.

I hung out around the SKYCITY until 14:30pm when I strolled back toward Terminal 2. I got some more aircraft parked up as I went back.

I checked in at the gate and asked about getting a window seat, however the ticket clerk said there were none available and I was given 20J initially. Meaning if I was to film I would need to lean over someone.
I spent around 3 hours at the departure lounge getting images of departures and planes parking up in front of the large windows.

At 18:10pm the gates opened for us to go and get into the gate area to board the flight. I noticed two young girls talk to a person at the desk asking to be sat together and the woman was able to grant there wish. I then followed them and enquired about a window seat…
I was given Seat 22A. RESULT!!!

At 18:40pm we boarded the Boeing 767-300(ER) which was G-BNWZ and quickly pushed back from the gate and left Stockholm. We were airborne around 19:00pm Swedish time.
The flight was about the same as the way out, with a few minor differences.
When the snack cart came along- I chose to try out the Mezze Salad that was offered and I also had a Screwdriver (Orange Juice & Vodka) with a Ginger Ale.

I didn't get many pictures, I filmed the flight and I got a load of nice footage of London from the sky. We arrived about 50 minutes early as there was a tail wind sending us to London quicker. As a result when we landed we parked at Terminal 5B instead of at Terminal 5A, which is where I departed from. I got a quick video of the Boeing 767-300ER flight deck.

Then I got on the express train across to Termial 5A, the only downside to the trip was getting through passport control.
I eventually got through to the arrivals area of T5 to be met by my parents and back home for the rest of the Half Term holiday.

Conclusion

I would love to go back to Stockholm Arlanda again, just in the summer next time. Hopefully the hut will be the better position and I also would recommend the JumboHostel and to any enthusiast, Get on the BA Boeing 767 before the 2018 retirement.

Brilliant Flights, Brilliant Hotel, Brilliant Airport. Best birthday ever!!! Hope you enjoy the report.

  • Thanks for another good report. No pics of the rooms at the jumbo hostel? You found a nice spot for planespotting. I'm sure it was cold with all the snow. Nice planespotting pics. Too bad the weather was gray. Would have been nice to see the catering with the lid off :-)

    Thanks for sharing!

  • Thanks for sharing the report.

Lots of beautiful spotting at ARN of regional Scandinavian airlines that we don't hear much about or see in the other parts of the world. I never knew there were so many MD-80s in Sweden... the Saab you spotted is less surprising, lol

BA catering seems to have a good offering in Y even on short flights, something most other European carriers don't do.

    • I was surprised by the stored McDonnell-Douglas MD-80s but glad to have found them. I was impressed by the salad option, I don't really like salad, however this one was an exception I'd have again. The sandwich I would have had if it didn't contain mayo...

  • Great FR, thanks for sharing it!

Wow, you were really lucky to catch that EK 380 at ARN. I only managed to catch it on flightradar24...

    Great spotting shots from ARN.

The catering looks good on this flight!

    • Thanks :) Shame that I caught a plane because of a dead child... I wish I'd have had the salad on the flight up as well. I will have to remember the next time I go BA within Europe...

  • Thanks for sharing this FR!

The jumbo hotel was nice! I loved the fact that you could book the flight deck and walk on the wings! ;-)

BA must have improved their catering, or must it be me thinking that they serve crisps on a Euro flight...

I realized that the 767 will retire soon, you were lucky to get on it on your birthday!

    See you soon

    • I didn't have the sandwich due to the Mayonnaise in it. The salad was brilliant.

    • Well, I still have a few years, but I might need some miles, and I guess about 50 pounds.

I might try the salad on my inbound and the sandwich on the outbound if Im gonna fly BA on stockholm, but I see that the hotel seems pricey, but it also looks like its worth it.
