Review of KLM flight from London to Amsterdam in Economy

Ok so this is an interesting Flight Report…

I was booked for KLM 1030, a KLM Cityhopper Fokker F70. Me & my dad were to do a 4 day visit to AMS for both spotting, visit the massive aviation hobby shop & the Lyestad Aviodrome.
However KLM cancelled flight KLM 1030 and the flight before it due to bad weather in AMS, a Fokker F70 is a very small aircraft and is extremely sensitive to strong winds. While waiting I saw an Air India Boeing 777-300 preparing to fly back to Delhi.

Luckily KLM booked us on the already delayed KLM 1028. A Boeing 737-700(WL) registered PH-BPG.
We left for Amsterdam Schipol almost 2 hours late. Next to us an even more delayed KLM Cityhopper F70. I was envious of the people on that flight, however I since I had got myself a KLM Flying Blue card, I can do the Fokker F70 in 2016, gives me another reason to go and tie up lose ends.

The Boeing 737-700 had quite good legroom and was really comfortable. As with the BA 737-400 I flew on the previous August, you could really feel the Boeing 737s take off power. Despite the poor weather the flight itself was quite smooth. Within ten minutes of departing LHR, the service began. We had the choice of either cheesy crisp bites or a fruit cake. I chose the crisps and I had one can of coke. I like the KLM plastic cups how they have a bike, a daffodil and KLM logo moulded into them.
We descended through rain and cloud into Amsterdam Schipol. After arriving I waited for most of the passengers to leave and then asked to enter the flight deck. I got some film footage and my picture taken in the captains seat. I guess this was the crew's way of apologising for the delays. It wasn't there fault. This was their last flight of the day, so they were pretty happy to see it end.

We made our way from Schipol to our hotel. The Ibis. We had got a good deal and we went to the IBIS Budget on the free shuttle bus. It turns out we were at the wrong place. We were booked in the main IBIS hotel. So we walked for 10 minutes in the pouring rain from one hotel to the other. We got into a room with an alright view of the airport.
The next day we went to the airport and found the Viewing Terrace was shut due to the bad weather that morning. It would be open the next day and day after, but we spent our day visiting the legendary Hobby Shop at the airport as well as exploring landslide Amsterdam Airport. We visited a small shop in the Terminal as well as the DC-9 Nose section next to it. I also had a waffle with ice-cream just because I wanted something to get over what happened the night before…



During my trip, I might have bought a few planes and goods…

Conclusion

KLM was a brilliant airline to fly on. I will happily fly with them again. Shame about my cancelled F70, but I will get a flight on it soon.

Amsterdam Schipol on the first two days (March 30th & March 31st) were a bit of a disaster, but I still enjoyed what I did and I did buy some cool models.

    I would love to visit AMS (The store, not the airport as I've been there many times).

    6,5 for on-time performence? Isn't that a bit too much?

    • They got me there on the day I wanted. I was impressed by the way they efficiently got me from one to another. This was a weather related issue. I think they recovered enough to get a decent score. Hopefully my next flight with them won't be so chaotic...
