Hello,
After some great holidays at the beaches of Crete it was time to fly home again.
Sunset has started when I reached the very old and totally overcrowded airport of Heraklion.
Queues at the Condor/Thomas Cook check in desks were long and it took me circa 25 minutes to reach the desk and check in my luggage.
Heraklion airport is probably the worst I have ever visited.
The terminal is extremely small, dirty and overcrowded. It has nothing to offer except one duty free shop and some small snack bars.
Below you see some pictures that give you a short impression of the old terminal.
At least the waiting area offered some nice apron views which was full of leisure planes taking back holiday makers to their home countries.
Luckily boarding started on time and we were soon bused to our Condor Airbus 320 which was waiting for us during the last moments before sun set.
Our plane has not been repainted yet and still features the old Condor/Thomas Cook livery.
The cabin is modern and nice with overhead screens and music playing while boarding.
Seat comfort however is limited due to pitch and small armrest and table layout. But for our 2 hrs 30 min flight this evening it will do the job.
As Condor offers no free food or drink on board short and medium haul flights I preordered a Premium meal via their website. This did cost 9 EUR.
This was soon served to me by the friendly cabin crew including a free glass of water and either coffee or tea.
The dinner I received was a huge portion and everything tasted great including warm bread roll.
After the meal service I had a look at the Sunstream entertainment application on my phone.
This service is currrently rolled out on Condor/Thomas Cook planes and you have to download the Sunstream app before the flight.
It would contain movies, airshow map etc. if you pay a fee of 4 EUR.
I did not buy this option so the content in the app was very limited.
The rest of the flight passed by quickly and we landed at Munich on time after experiencing some heavier turbulence during approach over the Alps.
