I didn't intend to post a report but the refurbishment of the TU lounge in Tunis has convinced me to publish.
My final destination is Hokkaidō island (北海道), the most northerly of the four main islands of the archipelago of Japan, and second novelty to me it will happen during the Kōyō(紅葉) period , the autumn equivalent of cherry blossom.
The choice of the company has met several criteria / constraints. TK's fares, the company I used most frequently, became unaffordable from TUN and with booking classes providing very few miles.
So I opted for MS for a trip to Japan in June. The experience was very satisfying and I had two long haul flights that were among the best that I had in eco: recognition of the status on board, correct catering, amenity kit, hotel provided (with a buffet dinner) during a long transit, and so on … The bad side is security check at the gate in the CAI bazaar. Unfortunately for this trip the only availabilities were in booking classes Y and B at prohibitive prices.
These two eliminated, the * A possibilities from TUN are limited to … LH. I take a look without complacency but I immediately find an advantage: unlike MS or TK that would have forced me to buy additional NH tickets costing between 170 and 200 € return to get from TYO to Hokkaido, LH rates are the same whatever Japanese cities you are flying to and open jaws are possible without restrictions. Only constraint the stop overs more than 24 hours at TYO are increasing the fare. No problem for this trip the 24 hours are enough for me.
I avoid the 2 am redeye flight to stall me on the late morning one. Then I have the choice between a LH flight and a NH codehare flight. The LH flight will allow me to try an aircraft that I probably would not have the opportunity to try later, the 748-i. Moreover it arrives around 12 o'clock at HND which suits me. I will take the codeshare NH for my inbound flight: with all the "benefits" of a codeshare, no reservation seat, meals… Communications with NH is a nightmare, as often with Korean or Japanese companies. After many emails and phone calls I was able to book my seats on the domestic flights but not for the NH flight(LH codeshare) "because it is in a LH booking" I was told. But domestic flights too …

Let's go ahead for the description of the first flight of this routing entirely ***** Skyhoax:
There is a choice of e-magazines with LH but it is very poor and limited to two possibilities

Let's go the the TU Lounge! Nothing has changed in the terminal.
I like this lounge, it is enough for me to restore in a quiet corner before the flight. This lounge has nothing special but it offers me a snack superior to the snack (sandwich) that I will have in flight.
Especially since the food offer has improved.
I would only have the breakfast offer to present you unfortunately.
Some pictures to make you discover the gorgeous butterfly that has become the ugly caterpillar it was.

There is even a rest area!
.
I do not know if it's because I was seen strafing with my camera but an agent comes to me and ask me if I wanted something to drink. The service improvement is impressive.
But it's time to head to the gate. Hey there's a piano in the terminal now
.
An Egyptian company that I see for the first time at TUN
.
I do not see anything that corresponds to its destination: maybe to Libya?
.
The boarding area is full but for the first time I'm seeing a priority lane
.
My aircraft is here. There is even wifi on board for those who cannot be disconnected for two hours!
.
It will be D-AIUX today whose first flight was on 25/07/2016
.
Seen from another angle from the departure lounge 51
.
In this boarding area it is Horus who returns to CAI (without Pharaoh Thomas Al-Misr future Platinum)
.
.
Back at my gate where boarding is beginning. The families and the elderly are called. Then the Business pax and the status pax (I presume). I present my boarding pass and there is a beep: probably because I'm seating at an emergency exit seat.
But the gate agent stands up without a word and disappears in the airbridge…
She comes back and writes something on my boarding pass. "You are in 1D"
.
Danke Schön LH! Here is a nice beginning for this routing.
.
.
I'm seating in 1D, one of the best bulkhead seats since I could extend my legs in the aisle. The seats are the same seats as those of the economy class. Not especially comfortable but not enough to play a remake of The Princess and the Pea ;) Similar to other companies.
.
Hook Instant GRMY Despite his proximity to Lourdes he will not have had the chance to benefit a kind of a redemption! Unlike other ex-members.
.
The Non Stop You menu
.
Chicken Tikka? Nein danke! It's for Mogoy!
Fruit Juices? Very well ! I will ask the PNC to squeeze some oranges but not without checking the quality of the oranges.
.
The Sekt I leave it for pititom and the wines for Ilyes
.
The service begins with the distribution of an oshibori.
Then I hear the juicer working and a few minutes later my orange juice is brought to me. Non Stop You!
.
With my most beautiful German accent I ask for a supplement of 12 grams of almonds. This is given to me with a smile
.
Then the FAs are beginning to serve the trays Being in the forefront of the cabin my first choice is available So here it is
.
The appetizer Marinated shaved Black Angus Beef (Scottish Highland Cattle) with Lime, Creme Fraiche, glazed Chestnuts, dried Pears and Tête-de-Moine Cheese
.
The main course Fried Pike-perch with mashed Broccoli and Fennel
.
Dessert Dark Chocolate Mousse with Strawberry Coulis
.
The salt and pepper shakers are nice There is also butter and a choice of hot bread
.
The appetizer, once removed, the pieces of pear, the chesnut and the cheese, is good but a too much salty.
The main course is better than it looks like but the mashed broccoli is also a bit too much salty. Dedication to FredNyon for LH Group Special Fish Bones ;)
.
The mousse is a good surprise because it is not too sweet and the coulis is good. An oshibori to end the meal service before the passage for tea and coffee that I decline.
.
I think this catering is superior to the AF catering offered on the flights to CDG (No, LH did not promise me a free HON card lol)
Beginning of descent to FRA, landing and we are parked at … a gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate !!!! It's really an exceptional flight !! There is a immigration check in the airbridge.

Conclusion
I was surprised by this flight. Well, in a good way, I specify it! The two FAs were very smiling and efficient. Perhaps because of the excellent practice of Goethe's language that I have shown? ;) The meal was good despite some possible improvements. Nothing to say about this seat for a 2h20 flight.
See you soon

Hi Lagentsecret, so nice to see one of your reports!! What a nice overall experience between the new lounge, the op-up (woo hoo), and parking at an actual gate in FRA!
Generally, the new lounge looks nice and the rest area is great, though some of the decor choices make it look a bit cluttered in parts. Either way, it's very nice to have a freshly updated lounge!
Pleasantly surprised by the catering on this medium-haul flight. I would have liked the Chicken Tikka as well :-)
Thanks for the comment. A lounge refurbishment is always nice. I am curious to know if the lunch offer includes at least a hot dish. It seems that TUN is associated with Chicken Tikka since BA also offered it on board when flying to TUN.
