Introduction

After 4 days of holiday it was time to leave Gibraltar and to fly back to Gatwick again on-board the British Airways A320! We would be flying from Gibraltar to London Gatwick on BA2663 departing at 20:55. The flight time would be 2 hours and 55 minutes therefore arriving at 22:45. This would be my second time flying into Gatwick and my first time flying out of Gibraltar. We had known before that our flight was delayed until 21:02 but throughout the day we had a aircraft change and more delays meaning we finally left Gibraltar at 22:15.

The terminal and lounge

The terminal was small and quiet when we arrived (2 hours before the scheduled departure at 20:55). After a short walk from security we came to the Calpa lounge. The lounge is small but has fast WiFi and a balcony overlooking the almost empty apron. The food selection wasn't brilliant but it would do. There was a good drinks selection though offering cold drinks in a fridge and hot drinks out of a machine. The seating was comfortable and there was plenty of it. The toilets were clean but dark and featuring no showers.

boarding

Boarding was quick and easy with a few delays getting up the stairs. We were greeted with a smile and a friendly hello from one of the crew members. We were in the first row of Euro Traveller (Economy) as Club Europe (Business) was very busy on tonight's flight. The seat was comfortable and the legroom acceptable for this 2 and a half hour flight.

inflight

We departed to the west with the rock on the left hand side. I didn't purchase anything from the M&S on board menu. I was very tired so I attempted to sleep but found it was virtually impossible since I was at a window seat and the arm rest was digging into my back. The British Airways A320 doesn't have IFE so if you want to watch something you will have to download something on your own device.

arrival

We landed 35 minutes behind schedule making a hard landing on the Gatwick runway. We taxied past Virgin Atlantic's brand new A350-1000 which had arrived at Gatwick from Toulouse a few hours before. We made a fairly long taxi to our gate where we exited via Air Stairs and made a quick transit through the airport to our waiting bus.

Conclusion

Great flight as usual with BA. With a lovely cabin and cabin crew. Gibraltar airport was great to fly out of.. Gatwick airport was a quick transit through passport control and baggage collection. The lounge was quiet with a pretty poor selection of food and drink plus sporting excellent views over the apron and runway.
Overall rating: 7/10
