Welcome! The wife and I are heading up to the big apple to see one of our good friends that we have not seen since COVID hit last year. This will be just a quick two night trip with non-stop flights from CLT-LGA on Delta Connection. I am really excited to see the progress made at LGA and to hopefully spread some much needed tourism dollars to local businesses in NYC.

I hope you enjoy this report!

Check In

I am flying on a Basic Economy ticket, but had the option starting 3 days prior to departure to purchase with $ or miles. As I was traveling with my wife, I wanted to make sure we could sit together. I had around 15K Skymiles which is too low to do much with. So, I decided for 2,900 per seat it was worth while. I could have paid $29 instead but what the heck YOLO.

24 hour prior to departure I checked in via the Delta App. It was super quick. I was asked several COVID related questions but all in all an easy experience.  My boarding pass is now in hand and its time to travel!!

Arrival/Secruity

We arrived to the airport around 8:30 via a short walk from the daily deck ($20 per day YIKES). My first thought was that the terminal was visibly more busy than any time during my COVID travels. Precheck line was super long; I'd guess around 50 people while regular security at Checkpoint B was over 100. We heard from officials that Checkpoints A and C were similar. Despite this and an extra screening at security I was airside at 8:36!! It was super fast!!

Airside/Boarding

After exiting Checkpoint B, you enter into a big atrium that serves as the hub of CLT.
Delta  operates out of A. American out of A,B,C,D and E with mainline jets at A,B,C and D. Lufthansa operates out of D and all other airlines out of A such as United, Spirit, and Frontier.

Boarding began at 10:30 and after the Domestic First passengers and elites it continued back to front. Being towards the back we were among the first called and boarded at 10:40.

AMEX Lounge

I decided to give the new  AMEX lounge a try. I visited once last October but at that point admission was very restricted due to COVID. The lounge is between the E and D gates. While not in the most convenient spot, it is close to international flights (D gates) and the ever so popular regional gates (E). My flight left from the farthest gates from the new lounge (A Gates) and the walk was still only 10 -15 minutes.

I entered via an elevator near the E/D Gates. Check in was a bit backed up but took just a few moments and if I was prepared could have been done via my cell phone. When we left an hour or so later, their was a 30 min wait just to enter!! My first impressions of the lounge were of how clean and organized it was. The lounge was a lot of seats but all were full. One rood had a whole wall of tarmac view seating. . Food was served by staff from a buffet. Breakfast choices were fruit, salad, yogurt, eggs, bacon, hash brown or waffle. A coffee machine (Counter Culture) was available to use but all other drinks had to come from the bar. I wish they had simple colas and waters available without having to wait at the bar.

Seat

I do apologize for not taking more pictures of the seat but it was pretty standard for US domestic short haul flights. I'm rather tall and it was fine for the 90 min flight.

Food/Drink

I loved the snack options! Goldfish or Cliff bars! FA also served mini cans (you were given the whole can) of Coke products. Juice, Water, Tea and Coffee was also available.

IFE

WIFI was available and that includes free text messaging for Iphone users and Whats app users. I did not locate any charging ports in Economy but do believe Domestic First has some.

No in-flight magazine was present.

In-Flight/Landing

Boarding door was closed at 11:05 with pushback at 11:08. We had a lengthy taxi across the airport to 36R where we had wheels up at 11:30. The flight was overall smooth with great views of Virginia, Maryland's Eastern Shore, Philly Metro area and Staten Island and eventually NJ has we had final approach over the Hudson before a right hand turn over the Bronx.

We landed on 22 at 1:00pm and had a quick taxi to gate D94. Terminal D is a brand new Delta terminal and WOW it is soooo amazing. LGA has been called many a bad words but Terminal D is world class!
