transit in lhr
Our stand was at Terminal 5C and we needed to go to the A concourse. And as you'll see, there's a bit of walking :)

The FIDS:

Going down:

Taking a train, ways to crowded:

And a looong walk to the security:

There is almost no wait, even the Fast Track was useless. The staff was really looking about everything in the bags, for the first time I had an additional control because of a travel toothpaste, you know the kind of really small one you get in amenities kits. I have never been checked for that, usually nobody sees it and even me, I had forgotten about it :)

We arrived just next to the the A lounge north:

But that one closes in 10 minutes so let's head to the south lounge, opposite from here, so more walking for us:

Almost there!

The lounge is upstairs:

ba south lounge terminal a

And climb a last level up, since this floor is reserved for First Class:

The lounge was really crowded we had a hard time to find a place, but eventually managed to get one. Here's the menu, only available via QR code (but a paper copy could have been requested for elderly people or people not having a smartphone)

Explaining why:

We had bailey's and carrot cakes. Some items were still available as self service:

More views of the lounge:

The toilets were clean.

My drink:

30' before departure we head to the gate. I would love to have this A380 at home. Space might be lacking, though.

transit part ii
To head to our gate, we first have to go two levels down:

Our gate:

the flight
I went to the gate agent to check if our documents were all ok and we were indeed good to go.
I asked about the load factor since I knew the flight wouldn't be full. I booked 5A for my mother and 5D for me.
She checks on her screen and says 5C et 5F were blocked by the station in Zurich already, we will get the row for us :)
There were 19 pax for 24 seats in business:

I was unable to get a better view from our bird:

Boarding starts on time, as good as load factor was in J, it was really bad in Y : 41 for 156 seats. BA has a "standard" seat on the first rows that can be used as J class, the rest are non reclinable, super thin seats. Poor guys that have to spend 5H on them. As the load was really light in the back I think most of the people had a row for themselves.

The door :

Fuselage shoot:

A much better view of the door:

One world sticker:

The seats:

The cabin looks nice, but what … this is what they call business class? The pillows were super thin and tiny, and the seat pitch …

L'inclinaison est juste … ridicule ?

Last view of the cabin:

The racks are brand new and offer much more storage place:

Only one window.

Safety card:

Power plugs in between the seats:

Fwd view:

Ready for departure:

We pushed back a few minutes late:

748F and A300F:

Long taxi:

Line up:

And off we go to Jordan!

The airport:

Turning back to head south:

Almost above the clouds:

A quick lav visit:

As expected nobody else was seating on our row, but we had a little fight with one of the hostess working in coach. She came and started to take away all blankets and pillows from the empty seats.
We told her that we will get them since we are going to lay down and it will make the flight more comfortable.
She said pretty abruptly that she needs them for coach and that we anyway had one of each.
I answered on the same tone that if there are not enough pillows or blankets for coach this isn't my problem and since we paid for business class, and the least she can do is to ask before removing it.
And the end we kept them but I will have another interaction with her later, also not that great.

There is WiFi onboard:

But the only free of charge thing is an access to your BA account and a basic information about the flight, no moving map.

And the prices are pretty high:

An aperitive service is conducted roughly 30' after take off:

Bloody Mary, water and some nuts:

Drinks and snacks are offered:

There were three options for lunch: chicken pie, pasta with ricotta and chicken or a cold option that was the same as on the ZRH / LHR flight : sweet potatoes salad. We both took the pasta:

Here we are:

How come they can offer this in business?? The starter was two pieces of cucumber, a bit of carrott and three salad leaves. The pasta was good but … it is only pasta.
The dessert was the same as on the previous flight.
All in all very disappointing.

The sunset was amazing!

Hot drinks followed, together with digestives. Here also there wasn't an active digestive service, but on request only.

I tried to get to the back to see how the non reclinable seats were but the "friendly" hostess from the back strictly forbids me to take any pictures. Looks they are ashamed about the product they offer.
Here's my lie flat seat :

My mom did the same:

OK it is not a lie flat seat but still much better than coach class. We were able to nap for a solid two hours, not that bad.
45' before arrival, we need to be back straight on our seats and fastened since Israël's rules are that nobody is allowed to stand in the cabin. I asked for a hot chocolate to finish the flight, no more mugs, only cups for the end of the flight:

Tel Aviv:

Jérusalem:

And Jordan!

Landed:

That 737 only flies to Alexandria, but I wasn't able to find any good information about it.
The purser bids us farewell and here we are, finally after two years, back in Jordan !

covid regulations on arrival in jordan
It starts really great: vaccinated right lane, unvaccinated left lane:

The people on the left lane go straight to rapid tests and our lane, our QR code for Jordan entry is first scanned by an employee that also scans the green pass. Then a second employee checks on her tablet the result of the scans and checks if the names are the same as on the passport. Total time : 5 minutes.

Then it is immigration, you first need to buy your visa: 40JOD approx 45€ all credit cards are accepted even Amex. Takes 5 minutes more.
Then all vaccinated passengers that already have their visa are asked to proceed to a dedicated line for passport control. Takes another 10 minutes. Meaning 20 minutes after arrival we were in the luggage hall, where our bags are waiting for us. Impressing!!

3 flights arrived together from Alexandria and the least I can do is that their luggage delivery is messy :)

We hop into our transfer to Dead Sea and arrived there after a 40 minutes drive. It is so good to be back "home" !
Happy birthday you old fart!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY YOU OLD GRUMPY GIT!!
and happy birthday!
Thank you, young grumpy fart :)
Thanks for sharing your experience.
My last transit through LHR goes way back to the 90s but the walks seem to be even longer now.
An overcrowded lounge is always unpleasant but the food and drinks seem decent enough.
Dreadful seats and catering in C: BA’s slogan is « You make us fly », I would answer « You make us flee » :-)
Hi Paul ! Love the new BA slogan ^^ Well found !!
Thank you for this review. BA used to have narrow-body aircrafts that had a proper business class. What happened to them?
All of the ex-BMI "Mid-Haul" A321s with Club World cabins have been parked since the beginning of the pandemic. No idea if they'll return, but there were rumours they were to be retired even before Covid.
Thanks Kévin for the comment and the explanation, I also heard that some of them have been retrofitted to the regular BA cabins.
What a shame since the product was the best available on the market :(
Hey Stephan, great to see a report on this route!
It's really a shame BA parked the A321 Club World fleet that used to run this route pre-pandemic. What a huge downgrade for a 5-6h flight. I've done max 4h in Club Europe on LHR-ATH/JMK and that was already painful...I couldn't imagine more. On shorter flights, the BA Pinnacle seats are great, but anything over 3-4h is getting to be too much in a Euro-J config. I really don't like that BA removed the central tables in J and the overhead screens with the airshow on the NEOs, just to save a few pounds of weight on each flight--so cheap. BA's 320neos are also uncompetitive compared to Royal Jordanian's 787s on the same route.
Tell me about it. I transit at T5 often so I'm used to it, but the whole transit experience is weird and inefficient and longer walks than they need to be. Like if you fly in to Concourse B and have a connecting flight at Concourse C, instead of taking the train directly to C, you need to take the train back to T5 A main terminal to pass through security and then take the train back out to C. Also the pathway from Fast Track security checkpoints in the main terminal to the BA lounges on either side is silly. The fast track security is actually right next to the South lounges, but unless you have Concorde Room access you need to walk to the middle of the terminal, go downstairs, hang a U-turn back towards where you came but 1 level down, then go up the escalators to finish just a few feet from where you started, but after like 1km of walking! It's madness...and I'm 99% sure it's designed to force you through the the retail shop section on the way to the lounge. Ok, ran over ^^
And yes of course, I've always been and remain a BA fanboy...despite all that, LOL...I'm masochistic I guess ?
Thanks for sharing!
Hi Masochistic guy :)
I must say LHR didn't impress me at all with the signage and the long walks, but FRA can be even worse :)
On the layout, SEA isn't bad too. When you arrive at the South Gates and want to go to the North gate, you have first to take the blue line loop, then the Yellow line connector and eventually the green loop to N :)
