That's the Fairbanks airport, lovely wooden floor, very nice little airport:
Morning's departure board, not that busy:
There is a flight for Prudhoe Bay, top north of the Dalton Highway. That's the place where most of America's oil is extracted and the start point of the trans-alaskan pipeline. Should you once wish to see the Arctic Ocean from there, forget it, you can't access to the bay, as there is a check point leading to it because of the oil fields. However, if you register to special tours, access can be granted, but no walk in allowed. Barrow is a better option, easily reachable by plane, and … via Prudhoe Bay ;)
Next to us:
Dawn is coming over this B1900D from ERA Aviation, a local company operating intra Alaska flights:
My plane is arriving from Anchorage with a light load of 10 pax. Meaning landing, offboarding, boarding ;)
I managed to board first in order to take some cabin shoots, but a guy was already seated at the seat next to mine, speaking with a lady seated at the seat on the opposite of the row. How did they manage to board before me? I learnt short after that he is Fairbanks'major with his assistant, and they boarding via tarmac.
Legroom and welcome water:
Plane next to us:
Safety card 737-700 :
A welcome coffee will be offered as well:
Alaska Air Alaska's network:
Push back on time and we see the japanese coach arriving :)
In fact, FAI is an international airport, with year round connections to Japan, and summer only to Germany with Condor.
That's a part of the interesting Everts Air Cargo fleet, with, among others, DC6, Curtis C46, DC9 and other old stuff:
As the sun is rising, we are taking off:
Beautiful views of the airport and the frozen Chena River:
Digiplayers, as for the inbound flight:
A first coffee round for everyone, with … savoury snacks. What a strange idea, at least for Europeans, at 08:50a!!
A very good breakfast plate, plated in the galley, and seconds for people asking more:
A visit to the lavatory after the b'fast:
The cabin carpeted wall:
And a baileys with some snacks… What else:
Soon enough we start our descent towards SEA, with nice views of the city:
And some ground spotting to finish:
I had already seen the original report in French, but the pictures are bilingual^^, and well worth seeing a second time over. Thanks for the translation effort !
Awesome views of Seattle on arrival!
Thanks for this FR.
Nice breakfast with typical american dishes (I just love corn casserole)
Do the old planes of Everts Air cargo still fly? Why not replacing them? I bet it's hard to find parts for a DC-6
According to their website they still fly them, and indeed, it must be hard to find spare parts for that kind of planes...
Nice daytime flight with AS with a full breakfast plate, but do they offer muffin, bagel or scone as well?
You promised an additional bonus of Alaska on this report but where is it???
Nope, no bread, nothing, that's not good, but the plate was sufficient by itself. Unless you don't like salty breakfasts :)
The bonus is in the next report ^^
