Vietjet air a330-300 sgn - mel

I recently flew on VJ81 from SGN-MEL on A333. Original price of one way ticket was $1.9k AUD however they had a birthday sale and after discount the price was $1k AUD.

VietJet operates as a ultra low cost carrier. The aircraft ex Air Asia X with slanted flat seats in J class and 3-3-3 in economy class. No IFE or wifi streaming offered. There's only 2 LCC in the world who offer a slanted flat bed and this one offers more food choices than the other LCC which is air Asia.

Lounge access was also included which was the Apricot Lounge, 60kg of checked bags, 20kg of carry on, express path for immigration and security and an escort to the aircraft.

I was the only passenger in the C cabin, pre departure drinks of watermelon juice, sugarcane juice, water was offered with a packaged wet towel.

I went with the sugarcane juice which was delicious and I managed to get 2 more servings. A wooden menu was handed out which was quite nice which details the pre drinks, snacks, entree and main meals.

One of my favourite views is takeoff from SGN.

In seat power is available between seats and the content of seat pocket. Two magazines, two buy on board menu, safety card and sick bag.

Business class menu which highlights what drinks are on offer for welcoming which is nice to see.
You have a choice between 4 main meals for C class however you can also order meals from the purchase menu.

A choice of Vietnamese delights were on offer such as Bún bò Huế (Huế beef noodles) Xôi (sticky rice with savory topping) Phở and Bánh Mì (bread roll)

Meal orders were taken prior to takeoff and I decided on the Beef noodles for the first meal followed by sticky rice for the second meal.
The sides served with the first meal were summer rolls with hoisin sauce, bread roll with butter, beef noodles with vegetables and sate sauce and a whole coconut jelly for dessert.

I opted for a Vietnamese iced coffee as well. I should say that the plates and containers used are sustainable plant based. This meal was SO delicious!

The tray was cleared quickly and I decided to place the seat into the angled flat position for a nap.

Coconut jelly, Vietnamese iced coffee and fresh summer rolls and hoisin dip - it was delicious!

The angled flat bed post first meal ready for a nap. I kept sliding down so I decided to keep it in a reclined Z position for a nap.

After a little nap I decided to go for a little walk down to the doors two lavatory, heres the mini Y cabin behind business class.

The good thing with VJ that you can order anything of the purchase menu so I went for a milk tea which was served with cheese, crackers and some fruits which was supposed to be served after the first meal.

They take their "Skyboss" branding seriously. It's even on the curtain.

You can't beat a view like this! Sometimes I get so distracted by the view.

photo pxl_20240320_095646292-01

I asked for a Japanese grape cocktail to enjoy with the outside view.

I was kinda getting peckish so the crew came around and I asked if I could order some food from the purchase menu. I decided to order a rice vermicelli stir fry with prawn and crab. The tray set up was exactly full like my first meal. The difference was dessert which were 3 types of mochi and the Japanese grape cocktail.

The crew cleared the meal tray and then a fruit platter appeared… Holy moly I've never had this much food on a ULCC before and I wasn't complaining, I even asked for a G&T to go with.

Everything was delicious. The crew asked if I wanted my "second" meal of sticky rice that I ordered at the start to which I turned it down because I was so full!

The crew close the curtain to allow Skyboss passengers off first.

Conclusion

A fantastic food experience in Vietjet with sweet and accommodating crew onboard.
I found it quite fine for a day flight as I adjusted my expectations and did prepare myself with my own IFE.

  • Thank you for the flight report!

I’m kind of surprised to see Vietjet to have business class on their A330s, as I know they are a low cost carrier. The food looks stunning, especially with the noodles and the fresh coconut in your first meal!

A very interesting report here, thanks for sharing!

    • I was really surprised when the announced their wide body fleet too! For what is offered its quite decent! The food really surprised me with how tasty it was! I would recommend to try it if you have a chance. :D

  • Really really cool flightreport. I have been dying to try SkyBoss on a widebody and this report has showed what value there is to be had. That food for an ULCC looks wow. For the price of 1K AUD for an 8 hour flight, in a private cabin? wow, I'm jealous. Conidering TG & QF charge about 1000$ more, I might just take this flight and buy an Ipad for entertainment🙃.

Sitting in row 1 as we wait for the aerobridge to connect.

Did you play any musical chairs during the flight? 😂

Nice report on the ANA 789 as well, really looking forward to your future reports🙂.

    • Hey hey Jettoajet! Thank you for reading. I've always been curious with skyboss so I'm glad it worked out with a 50% off discount code which the often promote time to time. I found it extremely great value for the price paid and had my expectations set right which made it a no surprise and comfortable flight. I was blown away by the food! it was so delicious! I was kinda ecstatic that I had the whole cabin to myself so it was pretty fun having all the crew focus their attention to you.

I thought about musical chairs but I was lazy to do so :P

  • Another very cool review! 1K AUD for o/w J ticket is an amazing price. VietJet have really made the best of these former AirAsia birds and are offering a much better soft product than AirAsia ever did!

Holy moly I've never had this much food on a ULCC before and I wasn't complaining, I even asked for a G&T to go with.

OMG, most LCC don't have THAT much food to begin with. Wow, amazing. Being Half-Viet, I'm loving the pics of the catering! MMMmmm I want Phở now! 😋

The only thing missing is IFE, but hey, for $1k (or hell, even the original price of 1,9k), it's a very competitive product.

    Thanks for sharing!

    • I'm glad you also find the price quite cheap for the route and fare! I'm glad the soft product is so generous with that they're offering under skyboss.

They didn't have Phở available that day but the BBH slapped! It was so good, there was so much food!

I find my own IFE is the best as I have what I want to watch to kill boredom, most of the time it's staring out the window :P

It's also so nice to see another Viet brother who's into aviation and travel :D
