INTRODUCTION
Hello everyone
The 25th July I took up the State Exam to become an architect
I've been adviced to try the exam in a small university, since the correction may take long time in universities with many students. For this reason I choose to make the exam in Pescara, considering I've a house by the sea in a nearby town.
With the exam being on Thursday I decided to flew there on Tuesday evening and came back to my workplace near Bergamo in the weekend.
BOOKING OPTIONS
In order to have an entire day before the exam I flew to Pescara on Tuesday. I wanted to come back to Bergamo on Sunday evening (to spend more time with my family), but only a 7-am flight is available on PSR-BGY route. Therefore I took the flight back on Saturday evening
For a few days I'd have get the small bag only, by the way I need to carry my computer and some books for the exams. So I choose to buy the Priority to get an additional cabin baggage. The whole flight costed me 84 euros.

ROUTING

Flight routing

Personal stats
5th flight of 2024
First time flying into PSR
BEFORE THE FLIGHT
The day before Ryanair allowed me to check-in
I decided to play with destiny and choose the automatic seat assignment
As expected (I've a big luck for this stuff) I got a central one, 23B

AT THE AIRPORT
Considering I need to stay in Pescara for four nights I immediately skipped the option to leave the car in BGY
For this reason I ask a friend of mine to carry me at the airport
It usually takes 30-40 minutes to get from San Pellegrino to Bergamo Airport
We agreed to meet around 20 since he needed to be back in town by 21

OrioCenter, one of the largest shopping mall in Italy
Its owner is also the president of the local Atalanta Football Club, the 2024 Europa League winner

At 20:30 my friend left me in front of Milan-Bergamo "Il Caravaggio" International Airport
The curbside is quite in a mess due to some massive expansion works

The departure hall is quite anonymous and was full of people

The massive queue leading to security check-point
Definitely a good choice to come earlier than necessary…

I finally got airside at 21:15, 45 minutes after stepping inside the terminal
Most of the screening lanes were opened, but the crowd made everything slower
As shown in the FIDS most of the flights were delayed

The path leading to the departure lounge is quite nice and new
The choice of shops and food is very good
Having already got dinner at home I just had an icecream and made my way to find a seat

The departure lounge was full of people
Most of the seats were occupied and a lot of passengers were sitting on the ground

Some spotting:
Ryanair Boeing 737-800

Ryanair Boeing 737-800 with MAX-style winglets

Maersk Air Cargo Boeing 767F in the distance

easyJet A320 pushing back

Having nothing to do I walked around looking for a recharging plug
I found one on a restaurant table (which was occupied) so I sat on the ground reading my book
Most of the people were forced to charge their devices in this way due to the lack of plugs in the boarding area
So strange from an airport that smells new in many of its areas
At 21:28 my plane departed from PSR. It landed in BGY at 22:28, just as the boarding commenced
Priority boarding was called on a separate lane, everything worked quite well

THE FLIGHT

Instant tail…

…istand door…

…and istant fuselage

The plane carries SkyInteriors
I made my way to my assigned seat, 23B

The plane was 50-60% full
A lady got the window seat on my row, but the aisle one (23C) was empty
I moved there to have more space

We left the gate at 23:08, a few minutes after scheduled

Getting to the runway was quite long, we taxied for the entire lenght of the airport

Mood lighting getting darker for take-off
At 23:20, twenty minutes after scheduled, we started our take off run
The engines were a bit noisy from that row

10 minutes into the flight mood lighting turned pink for food and duty free service
Most of passengers were sleepy so the crew tried to be less disturbing possible

I spent most of my time playing crosswords
5 minutes ahead of midnight the cabin was set for landing

We'd land from north-east
Since the airport is quite close to the coastline, the approach happens over Adriatic Sea

At 00:09, one minute before planned, we roughly touched down at Pescara-Abruzzo Airport
It took only two minutes to stop at our parking

The apron was completely asleep, we're welcomed by two small birdies

Disembark happend through both doors
No bus, the terminal can be reached by walking

Last view of our bird

Having no checked bag I went straight to the exit, where my parents were waiting for me
The landside looked anonymous, but enough well kept

The exterior square looks very cured in my opinion

After grabbing the car we drove to our house, located 12 km from PSR
It took us around 15 minutes
Stay tuned for the return flight
Ciao Carlo, thanks for another nice FR! Ryanair seem like a good option for domestic travel. I like how big their network is in Europe with tons of routes, though usually they don't have many frequencies on city pairs.
Sounds nice! Exams and then a little beach holiday 😁
I've only flown RYR one round-trip before and I didn't want to gamble with getting a middle seat so I just paid. I found it to be pretty reasonable at only 5 EUR more (some seats were only 1 EUR to reserve).
Nice that you got one of the BSI cabins with the newer seats. I was actually surprised when I flew them that the legroom was so decent. Better than full service carriers like BA or IB in Economy.
Thanks for sharing!

Thanx Kevin!
Living near BGY gives me great opportunities with Ryanair, their network from Bergamo is impressive
The BSI really gives a great touch to the cabin, it looks more like a "real" airline ahaha and yeah, the legroom is pretty good
Regarding the seat, I took the risk on BGY-PSR due to the fact the flight was at night, but next time I'd consider paying for it
Best wishes!
Ciao Carlo, thank you for sharing this interesting domestic route. In hindsight, I guess routes from the greater Milan area and Sicily make sense geographically especially since there aren’t any airports along the Adriatic between Ancona and Bari. BGY really has become a low cost airport, so not surprising they skimp on amenities like outlets and focused the remodeling on revenue sources (shops and restaurants). It’s amazing how much the BSI elevates the rather drab FR seats. You are lucky to have an on-time flight so late at night since FR’s planes usually accrue delays throughout the day.
Hello
Yeah, PSR plays a key-role on the Adriatic coast, serving not only Abruzzo, but northern Apulia
I remember there used to be an AirTransat flight from Pescara to Montreal or Toronto, more than 10 years ago
Thank you!
