Welcome! This is the continuation of my previous report on EK142 from MAD to DXB, you can see it here (http://flight-report.com/en/report-6960.html). I'm sorry but I don't have many pictures from this trip as I was really tired (I even fall sleep while I was eating breakfast), but I'm making it up with some photos of my the trip and the TG's domestic flights (I don't make a report on that flights as they were uneventful, but if you are interested in them I will make a report anyway, ask for it and I will be more than happy to post them ;) )
The plane from Madrid parked at the new Concourse A and our next flight also was departing from there, so it was very convenient for us. We had some hours to spend in the Airport so we decided to have some dinner in order to sleep on the plane. We chose an Italian restaurant and it was good. Soon it was time to head to the gate and we got our BPs checked before entering the waiting area.

Here are some details of the flight
- Reg: A6-EDT
- ETD/ATD: 3:05/3:06
- ETA/ATA: 12:05/11:43
- Load factor: I don't know, lots of pax, my cabin was full :)

We were seated in the front cabin, it was the first time I was seated in that part of the A380, my other experience was on the Upper Deck of one from Air France, and the front of the main deck was even more quiet and felt more spacious. The A380 is a wonderful aircraft, I love it. ICE was of an older generation but nice anyway. Call me crazy but I found the seats less comfortable than those on the 777, maybe I got that impression because I was tired. Crew on this flight was better than on the previous flight, despite of the fact that it was a red-eye, they were more friendly and engaging with the passengers. I managed to get some sleep and the flight went by quickly again.

The service on this flight consisted on a drink with salty biscuits after take off and breakfast two hours before arrival.
For breakfast there was a choice of noodles or omelet, since I don't really fancy airline omelets I went for the noodles. They were a little greasy and spicy, but I have eaten worse things on planes. The crew also handed out croissants that were very good (OK, they were good if you consider you're flying in Economy) and you could ask for more if you liked.

We landed softly on BKK and after waiting for one hour in the immigration line (many heavies arrived at the same time) we collected our bags and got a taxi to go to our hotel.
Here is the bonus:
- Bangkok: we spend 3 days there. We visited the Royal Palace, The Temple of the leaning Buddha, Wat Arun, the Floating Market, Ayutthaya… Our guide was a charming local old lady, she treated us like her grandsons and she made the visits really interesting and memorable. We only went out one night, we went to Sirocco, I highly recommend it. It's a posh rooftop at Lebua Hotel, drinks are a little expensive but it's really worth it, views are stunning!

- Phuket: we stayed for 5 nights, we did the usual excursions: Phi-Phi Islands, Phang Nga Bay, Elephant Riding…

Layan Beach (the Northern Part of Bang Tao). It was perfect: no buildings, few people, perfect sand…

Conclusion

The second leg of the journey to Bangkok went smooth, flying in the front of the main deck of the A380 was very comfortable. I managed to sleep a little which was good. I found the crew more enthusiastic on that flight and the food was average, but the quantity was good. The worst part of the trip was the huge lines at immigration, 12PM is certainly an hour of arrival to avoid at BKK.

Thai domestic flights were fine, I paid 140€ for a roundtrip flexible ticket which was very good value for money. Flights were punctual, service was very good as usual and airplanes in good condition.

The trip around Thailand was awesome, we had a really good time there. I got the impression that the country was more developed than 7 years ago when I went with my family, it's nice to see that the country is going forward and I hope they will overcome their political difficulties soon.

This is the end of the Part Two of this report, parts 3 and 4 will follow soon. I took more pictures of the inbound flights so they will be more detailed.

Comments and questions are more than welcome.

Best regards,

Martin

  • Hello,

I wonder if you requested the seat you got on purpose or you got it out of (I'd assume) bad luck?

Thailand looks awesome, a well deserved gift, congrats!

    • Hi!

I requested the seat. We were four people so we booked four seats in the middle. Emirates allow you to select seats at the time of booking whatever fare you are paying for.

      Thank you!

      Best regards,

      Martin

  • Thanks for this FR, the service on this 6hour flight is good taking into account the weird time it departs at.

    Nice bonus pictures!

  • Thanks for sharing this next leg in your trip. I go to Phuket every year and love going to Phang Nga bay; it's so beautiful there! Awesome tourist pics.

  • Your pictures brought all the warm memories of such a diverse destination.

The picture showing the seat pitch seems reasonable space for long-haul flying.

Hope you had time for a reflexology treatment or full body massage for 20 euros an hour. My favorite in BKK is the traditional Japanese thermal waters spa with aromatherapy. Helps one recharge during the oppressive humidity and heat of the afternoon period.

En la oficina comentaron que la foto ensenando vuestras piernas luce mas apetitoza que una pata de jamon serrano! ;)

Gracias por compartir esta experiencia alegre!

  • Very nice short report with very engaging pictures.

Service on EK did not disappoint and the croissant looked much better than the ones served in other airlines, even in premium cabins.

Lovely bonus and it seems that you had so much fun. The natural setting is just breathtaking.

Gracias por compartir este reporte y saludos.

  • I dissagree with you about Terminal A @ DXB. I also like to look at the FIDS @ DXB, but it's almost never in english ): . They must have changed the croissants they serve recently. As the croissants that I just had on EK looked different, and tasted terrible. Thing change.
