Hey guys, welcome to my first ever flight report. I had always wanted to visit Japan since a young age. After concluding my fixed-term contract (I used to be an accountant at a Medical Center in Paris, now I switched job to become a school supervisor), I took an 8-day break.
Take your time to read my flight report. Enjoy :D !
Stay tuned for my returning flight report.
As far as the airlines are concerned, I got three options (AF, JAL and ANA). I picked ANA as the schedule suited me and my mother. ANA had an aircraft painted with Star Wars R2D2 (JA873A). This airplane symbolized my love for planespotting and Star Wars. Hence ANA is my favorite airline.
Come on, let's not go too fast.
After taking the commuter train to Paris CDG airport T1 (RER B), we obtained our boarding passes via machines. Luckily, I was able to select my window seat (26K). I would be sitting next to my mother.
Then, we went through security checking. That place was totally new to me. In April 2019, T1 was divided into small satellites before a bigger one was built and inaugurated by the end of 2022.

A few more pictures of the newly built satellite. Our boarding area would take place at Gate 22 (6 P.M). Japanese people are extremely attentive with punctuality.
The gigantic satellite featured G10-48.

I still had plenty of time (at least more than 90 minutes). So I decided to walk around and to simultaneously do some planespotting. Many airlines have moved back to their original terminals (Air India, Emirates or Etihad…). Sunset was earlier than summer.
First picture is our flight to Tokyo HND (JA880A). I expected the airplane to be R2D2 livery. But instead, it was assigned to Houston. Bad luck !
Hey, no bad feelings about that, as I took plenty of shots of JA873A during the summer of 2024. Except for the exterior design and the seat cover, JA873A is no different than a classic livery speaking of configuration, entertainment or food…
Second picture is Pakistan International.
Third picture is Asiana Airlines (to Seoul Incheon).

Bonus pictures: T'Way to Seoul Incheon, Sunset at Paris CDG and Aer Lingus A320.

At 6 P.M, boarding was finally announced. This is Business Class (I wish I could afford it).
As I mentioned earlier, I sat at row K. Window seats have always been my favorite spots given that, you do not get disturbed while sleeping. In addition to that, you may take beautiful shots of takeoff or landing. Anyway, due to low light conditions, my shots were not optimal in terms of quality.
Within 30 minutes, boarding was complete. I noticed all flight attendants were wearing masks on their face (third picture).
Darkness prevented me from taking pictures of taxiing until takeoff :/ .

An hour and a half or maybe two hours later, snacks were served followed by drinks and meal. I got an apple juice glass.
Menu was handed. We were given the Japanese option (fish and steamed rice) or the Western option (Beef with mashed potatoes). I chose the latter.
ANA provided chopsticks and metal cutlery. One tiny detail that caught my eye was the fact flight attendants wore blue cooking aprons during food service in order to keep their uniforms clean. Something I have not seen in other airlines such as CA, DL or AF.

After diner, I walked around. On the picture, you could notice Premium Economy cabin.
I returned to my seat and resumed watching Kingdom 4 : Return Of The Great General (Japanese English Subtitles).
Shortly,
Sleeping was tough because of the jet lag. If you wanna get comfort, fly Business class (flight attendants would make your bed for the night) !
Despite those difficulties, I managed to sleep 4-5 hours in a row.

Three hours prior to landing, breakfast was served.
First option consisted of beef lasagna ; Second option chicken with vegetables and steamed rice

After my tray was cleared, I switched my window from night mode to normal mode. The sun was shining outside.
As soon as we approached the Japanese coast, the plane encountered some turbulence. Everything was shaky, like we were going down so quick from an elevator !
Things went back to normal after a few minutes.
The final two shots show our descent to Tokyo HND.

We landed at 3:48 P.M . In Tokyo, sunset is an hour earlier than in Paris (5 P.M).

After taxiing, we finally parked next to a Boeing 767 ANA.
An A350 of JAL and the control tower on the right side (first picture).

After getting back our luggage, we passed through the custom borders. Now, we were leaving Tokyo HND. Not before withdrawing some cash and obtaining our Suica pass :D !
Sayo Nara !

A very nice first report! Very complete with good photos and descriptions. Good job!
ANA is definitely a good way to go. Though personally if flying long-haul economy to Japan on a 787 I prefer JAL for their unique and very spacious 2-4-2 configuration. Either way, the service on Japanese airlines in general is impeccable.
Thanks for sharing and looking forward to future reviews! Welcome to Fligh-Report!
Great first report, very detailed! It seems that there was a warm 2nd meal service on this flight, which is odd to see as on my previous flights on ANA, we were served a cold meal box.
Thanks for sharing!
A superb review ! Really loved it :)
Not sure if you were aware, but the PIA 777 you photographed, was PIA's 1st European flight after 4.5 years. Thank You for photographing the aircraft which has special Paris decals.
Copyright signs on your pictures are very anoying and is just nonsense actually. You should check copyright regulation because taking a simple photo of a plane, a seat or meal can't be copyrighted unless you build yourself the plane, the seat or created yourself the meal.
