Travelling from Gdansk City to Gdansk Airport
There's a couple different routes to get from the city of Gdansk to the cities Airport. I decided on my way out back to the Airport to take the Train from Gdansk Glowny Station, a one-way ticket bought at a kiosk came to roughly £3.50p which I thought was outstanding value.
The train I got was a very modern looking Inter-City Train service that ran across various cities and large towns in Northern Poland. It was a very busy service, so I couldn't photograph the inside of the train, but I was able to snap a quick photo of a freight train we passed.
The train from Gdansk Glowny stopped twice on the ride to Gdansk Airport before continuing onward towards Gdynia. The station is a short walk from the Terminal building. If you can't or don't want to use the train service, there are also regular bus routes towards Gdansk city.
If you're leaving the Airport for Gdynia or Gdansk, then you can buy a ticket on the station platform, as well as nice warm coffee from a vending machine. As you can see in the picture below of the station, there are two walkways, one on either platform, that take you under cover towards the departures hall at the Airport.
Welcome to Gdansk Airport
When you enter Gdansk Airport from the Train Station, you get dropped off on a platform in front of an escalator which gives you an amazing view across the arrival and departure areas landside. It's a big open space the Terminal building.
I arrived mid-afternoon just as the late afternoon and evening rushes were starting up. As you can see the Airport caters to some of the biggest airlines in Europe with Wizzair and Ryanair being the most dominant international airlines, with LOT Polish Airlines catering regular domestic routes to Warsaw as well as a few other major Polish cities and Istanbul whilst Lufthansa, SAS and KLM offer flights to their hubs to feed into their long-haul networks.
Also there was an awesome little plane (based on a Boeing 737-NG) made up of decoration lights just as you got to the security lanes, they didn't object to me getting a photo of it, though they probably see lots of people photographing it!!!
Airside at Gdansk Airport is several shops, cafes and bars along the long building with windows offering a good chance to spot aircraft on the ramps and runway. I had to get to the Airport's passport control to clear into the Non-Schengen Zone. As you get there, you are met with a statue from the Museum of Gdansk of a Royal King from the areas history.
From the Non-Schengen Zone of Gdansk Airport I spotted a few parked up Wizzair Airbus A321, a Ryanair Boeing 737-8MAX and the most interesting movement was the LOT Polish Airlines Embraer ERJ-195 heading to Istanbul Airport… a five hour flight on an ERJ???
Eventually my flight arrived into Gdansk Airport to collect me and almost 200 other passengers. I waited for most of the other passengers to get scanned in, going on as one of the last people onto the aircraft…
Ryanair FR532 (GDN-STN)
My flight from Gdansk Airport to London Stansted Airport that evening would be a Boeing 737-8200 (737-8MAX) of Ryanair operated by their Polish spin-off airline BUZZ! though unlike my previous time flying a BUZZ! Boeing 737-MAX, this aircraft wore the standard Ryanair livery rather than the bright yellow scheme on some 737-MAX aircraft.
This aircraft is SP-RZO, this Boeing 737-8200 (737-8MAX) was delivered in March 2022 to BUZZ! and has flown for the Ryanair Group ever since, making it four years old at the time of flying it. Ryanair is one of few airlines flying the 737-8200, a variant of the Boeing 737-8MAX for Low-Cost Airlines which can fly with 198 passengers.
Boarding began and as is standard with Ryanair flights, it was boarding at the front and rear. I love this method of boarding as you get to get some amazing views of your aircraft! Despite the snow and 1-degree Celsius weather, it was still worth doing! I got some amazing photos whilst boarding the Boeing 737-MAX!
Seat 16F was my seat selection for the 2 hour flight back to London this evening. I personally think it offered a good wing-engine view for the ride over, even though the night was drawing in quickly…
One thing I like about flying Ryanair in 2026, is before you fly out you can pre-book off the inflight menu, so I opted to grab a €12.50 (c.£11) meal deal for later in the flight, the best bit is you get served before the other passengers if you think ahead!
As it was freezing temperatures outside at Gdansk Airport, once we pushed back- we had to stop for 20 minutes, causing a minor delay, in order to be de-iced. I was in a prime spot to witness the De-Icer vehicles in action, which I personally find pretty fun to watch, though getting pictures once they start the process is a little tricky as you can imagine…
Whilst we waited the crew performed the inflight safety demonstration before setting the mood lighting… I do love the Boeing Sky Interior lighting on these Boeing 737-MAX and newer Boeing 737-NG!
Once our de-icing was done, we were cleared to leave Gdansk Airport. A quick taxi to the Runway and as soon as we got there it was straight out of the Airport! I was just about able to get a few phone pictures as we climbed out on that wintery night- the wet stuff on the window being blasted off isn't rain or snow- its the De Ice fluid!
You don't fully appreciate how large the engine on the Boeing 737-MAX is until you are literally sat next to one!
Once we started our climb to our cruising altitude, we charged through some thick heavy clouds near Gdansk, which made for a very atmospheric shot from our darkened cabin with the take off lights still on.
Once our climb was completed and we began to head across the North Sea, the cabin lights changed to a warm red tint mode for the Boeing Sky Interior, I also got a good shot of the Boeing 737-MAX winglet lit up from the red strobe light!
Ryanair still offers an inflight magazine in 2026, though I have noticed its not always given out by the crew. The magazine is half "Runway Retail" and half "Getaway Café". I thought I'd share a few pages on here, mainly going with the Airport-City Transfers you can buy through Ryanair as well as the main Meal Deal menu showcasing the main Sandwiches sold onboard.
My Meal Deal order arrived. I opted for a Three Cheese Toastie as my sandwich along with some Sour Cream flavour Pringles and a Classic Coca-Cola… not too bad for €12.50 (£11)… no matter what route you fly, Ryanair Group Airlines price their onboard offerings in Euro only and they don't take cash payments- CARD ONLY!
Ryanair is going all in with the automation to save costs and improve efficiency on their product, some people are finding their movements controversial and not a good customer service look, but I am very in favour of it and find their automation very easy to use when I fly with them.
A quick "Loo Review" and its what you'd expect from Ryanair and pretty much any Boeing 737-MAX aircraft. It was clean enough when I used it, but by this point in the flight at least one of the toilet roll handles had run out.
Overall it was a standard Ryanair experience that I enjoyed and it was a cheap flight from A to B- or Gdansk to Stansted should I say! Given it was a night flight, getting more photos of my flight was very difficult… But I managed to wrangle a great shot of the Winglet lit up by one of the lights on the Boeing 737!
Eventually the flight came to its conclusion and we began our arrival into a very rainy London Stansted. As we taxied off the Runway I observed that the multiple planes parked up, mainly Jet2 and Ryanair aircraft as well as seeing various amazing Cargo Traffic which London Stansted is known for and I was surprised to see a parked up Boeing 777-300ER from Emirates, not realising they had an evening flight to STN!
We parked up on our stand, coming to rest next to another Boeing 737-MAX of Ryanair at one of the satellite terminal buildings for London Stansted. We would have a bit of a walk to the Passport Control, but we wouldn't require the Monorail on this occasion!
I was one of the last of the plane to get some final photos, as I was trying to leave the plane, a gentleman a few rows ahead of me was stopped from leaving by the crew as he appeared to be "a bit too intoxicated" and the crew wanted him to have assistance leaving the plane in case he hurt himself getting down the wet and soaking stair case at the aircraft… I was able to pass him without any issues, but it meant I withheld taking the usual cabin pictures I like to get, just in case.
I took the coach back to my hometown in Bournemouth with National Express, it resulted in a stop and change of coaches in London Victoria, but I opted to showcase how to get to the Coach Station at London STN from a flight…
Once you leave the plane and get through passport control, you leave the Airport through a door by the Arrivals, where you follow signs to the Coaches and Train Station for the Stansted Express… You pass the train station above to get to the Train Station, then you go outside under the Terminal and there is the Coach Station where you can travel to Central London and some other destinations with National Express and recently FLIBCO… The A8 Service is located at Bay 26 which goes to London Victoria, with some other stops if you book the ticket.
I was able to get on a slightly earlier coach as it was a very quiet service, but don't expect this to happen at busier times! I then chilled on our ride down the M11 towards London enjoying a LAYS Crisps flavour exclusive to Poland!
Overall this was a nice flight experience and a chance to share the London Stansted coach experience from London STN as well it was a good trip to make this report about, especially as I also did Luton to Gdansk with Wizzair before hand! I hope you enjoyed the report!
