Welcome to this flight report, detailing a flight from Dubai to Melbourne with Emirates! Before taking this flight I had flown in from Dublin with Emirates, and had a very short connection at DXB before my flight to Australia!

Being escorted from EK164 to EK406.

I was one of the first passengers to board the beautiful A380!

The boarding process seemed to have been completed within 20 minutes, possibly even less than that. We soon prepared for takeoff of our 12 hour flight to Australia!

Here's an extended video of the extraordinary takeoff from DXB, featuring views right over the city centre of Dubai:

For the initial 30-40 minutes of the flight I familiarised myself with the inflight entertainment system, and started to watch a film.

Soon, the first main meal was served. I had ordered the vegetarian vegan option. The portion size turned out rather small but the quality was good.

The internet provided by Emirates was very high quality considering the price ($1), and worked for the majority of the flight duration.

Some light turbulence as we passed below India:

Sunset had slowly caught up with us as we passed below the equator.

By this stage the effects of jetlag and lack of sleep had caught up with me, so I tried to sleep for the rest of the night until shortly before landing.

Approximately 2 hours before landing, the cabin lights slowly brightneed for the breakfast service. The vegetarian vegan option was fantastic.

Conclusion

This was only my second flight with Emirates, it was my first ever on an A380. The spacious interior of Emirates A380s makes ultra-longhaul travel a more comfortable and enjoyable experience for travellers. The food provided by Emirates was wholesome and cabin crew were actively passing through the cabin with drinks throughout the long flight. I look forward to flying both Emirates and the A380 again in the future!

Thank you for sharing this FR with us!

I'm glad you got a cabin with the 12,1 inch screens in Y.

USD 1 is definitely a great deal for 500mb of internet onboard.

Have a good one, see you!

Thanks for sharing this nice and detailed report! The spacious A380 cabin makes for a much more comfortable experience than EK's tight 3-4-3 configuration on 777s. Catering looks good--special meals are often hit or miss, but the quality looks consistently good here. Those PTVs are huge. The IFE is definitely one of EK's strong points in Economy on newer aircraft.

Thanks for your comment! Yeah the cabin on the Emirates A380 is significantly more comfortable than on their 777s. I'd hate to end up on their 17 hour flight to Auckland before it switches from 777 to A380! Agree with you re: the PTVs, quality is outstanding and to think this version isn't even the latest offering which Emirates has!

Hi. Anyone give me an idea how far it is between gates on arrival from Dublin and departure for Melbourne.
