Flight back home after 10 days visiting my family in-law
YVR-CDG 03/01/2018
We arrived a bit early (for me at least) at the airport: 11am for 1:30pm flight. We drove by car (a rental) to the airport. Drop-off the car was quick.
Check-in: easy, nobody
Security: easy, skypriority (we had to ask if there were a priority lane. Nothing is shown, except a fastrack lane without any explanations).
The international part of the airport is very well done and nice. There is even an aquarium. It's not very big but the feeling is very nice. The airport has been improved thanks to the Olympics. Before, it wasn't as nice.
Direction to the new Skyteam lounge. The two ladies at the entrance weren't very welcoming. It was the contrary inside the lounge. We were welcomed by a lady, asking if we wanted a work space and if we wanted a tour of the lounge (a lady welcomed every guest asking if they wanted a tour). I really appreciated this. The personal was present in the lounge which is not big and very attentionate and active. The lougne has the skyteam signature with a lot of wood. I really like the atmosphere of these lounges. Wonton noodle soup and dim sum on demand. There were quite good. Wine on tap. Newspapers and magazines mainly in Korean or Japanese. Poor selections to my taste. But most of the flights are for Asia so it sort of make sense but I was hoping to have a better selection of US and Canadian newspapers and magazines (Globe and Mail, NY Times, Time, ..).
Boarding: easy by zone. Except that nobody told us the boarding will be by zone at the check-in. Was a bit chaotic as usual as people are afraid that the plane is going to leave without him so they start the line-up way in advance.
A view of the premium economy on my way to the rear of the plane. It was the old cabin for the business and premium eco. No AF magazine, cup holder broken. The seats are a bit shifted compared to the front row which means that the tablet is also a bit shifted. Not a super big deal but not very practical. Same seats than for the flight to go to Vancouver. Good space for economy.
Security instructions
Some spotting before take-off
Entertainment center: not impressed by new releases. Quite slow to use, I was surprised.
Food:
Coleslaw: nice but very peppery and spicy
Pasta: a bit cold, very tomatoes taste. Didn't really like it
Apple sauce: was nice
Cheddar: well, it's cheddar not my cup of tea
Wine: well, it's plane wine. So not great, but not too bad
Some views from the plane during the flight:
Breakfast:
well it's breakfast in a plane; I never find it good whatever companies
Arrival at CDG:
30 min late because of the late arrival of the plane in Vancouver; Pouring rain in Paris as you can see on the pictures
Hockey game in Vancouver: Canucks vs LA Kings
View of Vancouver downtown
Meat and Bread restaurant. The best sandwiches in Vancouver
Views of Surrey and Langley
Thank you for sharing. It looks like you had a good flight with AF in Economy. I feel like AF always provides really nice meals from each report I've seen about them!
Thanks.
AF is quite good. I have to confess that I don't expect much for food plane in general. So I am very often happily surprised of the quality. But never for the breakfast.
Thanks for this FR.
Good flight it seems in spite of the slight delay.
I heard out of YVR KL has the reputation to offer a better service than AF which normally is the opposite.
Thanks.
It's been a long time I didn't fly KL to YVR so I don't know. I live north of France and it's easy to fly from CDG to YVR instead of having one stop in AMS.
Thanks for sharing this FR. Not the most compelling catering from AF on a long TATL like this, probably no different than what is offered from East Coast. Old IFE and 3-4-3 is not a recipe for comfort on a 10-hour flight.
Did you at least get some room on the side to stretch your legs with the misaligned seats?
ST Lounge looks quite good compared to the AC Lounge at YVR.
Thank you for our comment.
I believe the IFE is the news one from AF.
3-4-3 is not the most comfort configuration for a long-haul but I think most of the airlines have this configuration now. But I'm always surprised that "premium" companies such as AF use this config.
I don't the AC lounge at YVR. First time in a lounge in YVR. The ST lounge is not very big, not a lot of comfy seat but good food and quiet
There was room on the side which was very nice. More room than for the other rows. I was a good thing.
