Hello dear readers,
New trip, new planes, here is the routing to fly to Toronto. Of course I could have flown the direct VIE-YYZ flight but it sounds boring for an aviation enthusiast!
Flight routing
- 1VIE-WAW / LOT Polish Airlines / Business / Embraer 175
- 2WAW-JFK / LOT Polish Airlines operated by Air Belgium / Business / A340-300
- 3JFK-BOS / JetBlue Airways / Economy / Airbus 320
- 4BOS-YTZ / Porter Airlines / Economy / DHC-8-400
- 5YYZ-VIE / Austrian Airlines / Business / Boeing 767-300
I left the car in the car park and headed to Terminal 3 (mainly Austrian with some partner airlines).
Check-in was quick and no waiting time. It was shortly before the end of check-in.
Security check point also quickly done. Now heading to the gate.
At the gates there are a few seats with sockets.
Today's gate is F13.
Here it is, boarding started not long after I got there.
Boarding starts with the priorities, but I'm not rushing.
No LOT plane is in front of the gate, which means bus ride to the aircraft.
Our aircraft is SP-LID which was delivered 12 years ago to LOT.
Something caught your attention on the last picture? It's an Air India B777-300. Not the usual B787-8 flying to VIE. At the moment AI's JFK and ORD flights are refuelling in Vienna.
On the right, the second AI B777-300 .
Ongoing boarding, while I take some pictures.
LH A321
Nordica CRJ-900 is parked next to us.
Boarding only at the front.
The view from my seat. A few passengers in Business but it is not full.
Outside I have a few on the right engine GE CF34.
A pre departure drink is offered, water or orange juice.
Flight attendant offers newpapers in English or Polish. Later she comes back with magazines but they are only in Polish.
J cabin is not full. It's a 2-2 seating configuration but one seat is blocked for the passenger's comfort.
The seat pitch is good for me.
The sticker indicates that there is an electrical outlet.
The electrical outlet.
Coat hanger on the side of the seat.
No push-back, we move forward to leave the parking position.
Both AI are parked at the end of Terminal 3.
Take off runway 29. Dreamliners of TG and NH are on remote stands for a few hours.
Maintenance hangars, one side of it for Austrian Technik. Various planes parked in that area: 2x 772 + DHC 8-400 AUA, A321 VK, A320 VY. For express freight B752 FedEx and B7363 UPS.
Left turn for us and Vienna city center to be seen on the right side.
Above the clouds
Quickly after take-off, meal is served with some simple tablecloth.
There is a menu. It's good to know what's on the plate.
I organized a little bit to show you everything.
The cutlery branded with LOT's logo. There is a hole in the napkin, not useful for me.
Croissant and bread are warm.
Pork loin marinated in mead served with dill cheese.
For desert, fresh fruits.
Some montains with a bit of snow.
Drinks came later. I had apple juice and tea.
Glass branded LOT.
After the meal I looked under the plates.
In the literature pocket I found the magazine where Zurich is the highlight.
The sickness bag
Safety card (side 1).
Safety card (side 2).
Vistule river is in sight.
Shortly before touchdown.
Welcome to WAW!
We are parked directly in front of the terminal, however a bus will drop us off at the terminal.
Last view of the cabin while debarding: Economy class
Business class
Last view of the aircraft from the bus.
-From the bus I can see one of LOT's B737-8 MAX wearing the ''Proud of Poland's Independence'' livery.
I had 6 hours connecting time at WAW. At first I decided to stay a little bit in the terminal.
Taking pictures of airplanes in the terminal was not the best. Why is why I decided to go out of the terminal.
No airshow map available on this aircraft, but Flight Radar 24 does the job.
Thank you for reading!

Hi EuroAirport68, what a creative routing on the way to Toronto!
I am impressed with LOT's J service on such a short flight. Here in the U.S. we get a lame snack basket with chips and cookies on a 1 hr flight. The cold meal on this short flight looks really nice!
Looking forward to seeing the next leg operated by an Air Belgium A343.
Thanks for a beautiful report with lots of awesome planespotting and nice cabin shots ?
Hi Kévin,
you're welcome!
Creative routing, I like the sound of that!
Indeed the cold meal for breakfast was nice.
I've seen that you read the Air Belgium report and were happy about the outcome :)
Nice report! LOT certainly looks like an airline with good standards. Noticed the retro-Austrian hiding in one of your boarding pictures. Nice picture of the LOT 100 years B738M
Thank you for reading!
You have a good eye for the AUA retro jet! The painting was only a few days old when I took the picture.
