VIDEO REPORT

INTRODUCTION

Hello again!

This is my 2nd flight in this trip series and my 2nd out of 3 for the day.
I was transiting from Christchurch, which is where the check-in process was completed.

All flights in this trip were booked as a single ticket by a travel agent.
Although I was in a group of 9 under 2 separate bookings, the agent was able to give us seat selection for the flights in which all 9 of us would be on.

SYDNEY AIRPORT

The airport was under renovation when I last flew through SYD, so it was good to see it complete.
I didn't really roam around much as it seemed quite busy, and the walk towards the gate was a bit on the longer side and sometimes I am just too lazy :P Despite being busy there were still plenty of available seats, mainly near gates. There were a few power points that I found but not all of them worked. I managed to find one by a window and luckily brought my 6 plug power board with me.

There were enough choices to find some food but I grabbed some nuggets and tea at McDonald's and that's about it.

There was an interactive touch screen display which I found pretty cool. You can type your flight number into and it will come up with a map of the terminal and how to get there. That's quite handy!

The flight was scheduled to depart at 11:30 a.m. but boarding only started around 11:15 a.m.

AIRCRAFT

The aircraft for this flight was an Airbus A330-300
Registration: VH-QPE
First Flight: 19 May 2004
Delivered: 28 June 2004

Although this is an aircraft of reasonable age, the A330s in the QANTAS fleet went through an overhaul and were refurbished (as far as I am aware). The last time I flew a QF A330-300 (Jan. 2015) the seats were still the older dark purple ones with the small tv's, and no USB charging was available.

The seats are now a dark red / maroon sort of colour, equipped with a larger touch screen display and USB charging.
The configuration is the standard 2 - 4 - 2 in Economy, with the last few rows being 2 - 3 - 2

Unfortunately due to the way the gate was set up at the airport, I was unable to get a picture of the aircraft.

INFLIGHT

I was seated in 52K which is behind the right win in the back section of Economy, near the rear of the aircraft.
I selected this seat my self online. I believe the normal cost for this is around AUD $30.

Boarding was eventually complete and then it was time to taxi which felt quite long.
From the video recording I have, it took around 11 minutes from the moment we push backed to the time we were lined up on the runway.

Nevertheless, we were airborne at 11:50 a.m. local time (AEDT) which was 20 minutes behind schedule

This flight would have 1 main meal as lunch and then a small refreshment before landing.
A menu was distributed to everyone once boarding was complete.

There were 3 options for the main meal and 2 the refreshment.

The 3 options for lunch were:

A)  Salad of roast chicken with pumpkin, black rice, red onion, edamame and tahini dressing

B) Beef blade steak with red wine sauce, potato mash, zucchini and sugar snaps

or

C) Stir fried noodles with Asian vegetables, blackbean, tofu and chilli

All 3 options came with a Garlic ciabatta and Cheese and biscuits.

Anyways, 1 opted for option A.

The cheese and biscuits were fine, but the ciabatta was a bit on the harder site making it slightly difficult to break down and chew. I would have preferred just a normal traditonal plain bun.
The chicken and salad was a cold meal which I wasn't expecting to be honest. I am not really a fan of eating cold chicken but I guess we are all different. Like the ciabatta it was also a bit chewy. The dressing helped combat this a little but still wasn't the best

A weis mango ice cream was then served to everyone after most of us were done eating our meals. This was definitely the tastiest thing so far!

All seats are equipped with an entertainment system. As part of the new QANTAS experience, th screens are now touch screen and much larger. I was amazed at the amount and range of content available. I certainly wasn't expecting it, but it was pretty impressive!
There were heaps and heaps of Movies & TV shows to choose from, certainly more than enough to keep you occupied for the duration of the flight. I was also impressed with how responsive the screen was, as I had not seen this on a QANTAS aircraft before.
This is a huge upgrade from their old outdated system on the A330. Well done QANTAS!

The seat-back screen provided USB charging, and an audio port for the headphones. There was also an audio jack in the armrest. Headphones were not allowed to be plugged directly into the screen for take-off and landing.

The cabin was lit up again around 6.5 hours into the flight, just before the refreshment service.

There were 2 options for this light snack: Either a Mushroom pizza or Steamed pork buns.
I went with the Mushroom pizza as I like mushroom and I don't eat pork anyway due to religion.
It was a pretty small pizza, which, just like the other food seemed a bit hard and chewy. Although this was mainly just the outside. It became much softer towards the middle as you would expect. Despite the initial hardness, i quite enjoyed the taste of it.

The seat itself was quite comfortable, and there was decent legroom. I don't really remember what the old product was like though.

Thanks for taking the time to read my 2nd report. Apologies for the lack of quality in photos. For some reason I can't seem to find the original copies on my computer.

Conclusion

Another smooth, pleasant QANTAS flight.
The cabin crew were amazing on this flight too, extremely friendly and helpful.
The entertainment was amazing, an upgrade that was definitely needed!
The legroom and seating was decent and comfortable.

However, the food could improve a bit. It wasn't bad but any means, but it needs to be better I feel.
It can be a bit hit and miss with QANTAS. Sometimes it's amazing, sometimes it's not.

    Thanks for your second FR.
I'm always suprised by the lack of trays on QF, I suppose this multplies the number of gestures by the crew to hand the entree, then the bread, then the cutlery etc etc
Nevertheless the meals look decent, similar to what you'd get on a flight from Europe to the East Coast.
The cabin crew seem to a constant strong point when flying QF.

Nice report once again! A very good Y product overall. A330s are comfortable in general and the seats look well-padded, which is nice with so many slimline seats out there these days.

The catering is interesting. The portion size of the main looks large, and the lack of a tray is an interesting way to save weight and reduce waste. But yeah it's missing a proper appetiser and this type of service adds work for the cabin crew, I imagine.

Nice views on arrival. Thanks for sharing!
