Background

This was my outbound flight on my short weekend trip to New York and New Jersey. My flight on the way back would be on Southwest Airlines from LGA-MSY

At the airport

I first arrived at the airport at 5:25 P.M., a little over 2 hours before my scheduled departure time. The New York area airports were having lots of wind issues so I learned on the app that my new flight time would now be 8:18 P.M., but I expected my flight to be delayed more. At this time, the airport was really busy because it was the last rush of the day.

Checking in was painless and quick as there was literally no line.

Security was also very quick and easy with no line.

Terminal D is the airport's newest terminal. It does not have many food options, as most of the terminal lacks these so I decided to grab a bite to eat at the Wow Cafe. It was very busy, slow, and not that appetizing. Fortunately, the new Terminal project in New Orleans opens November 6th!!!!! It will be 1000x times better than the current terminal with almost 3 dozen restaurants.

The gate area was quite empty because this flight was only about half full. Our inbound plane arrived very late at 7:23 P.M. Unfortunately there was no good view of our plane and it was dark so I could not get a picture of the 737-800 (N24212) taking me to Newark tonight.

Boarding began at about 7:40 P.M. (35 minutes late). I was boarding in group 3 and due to the light load, I was on the plane in no time.

This 737-800 had an IFE at every seat. Unfortunately, I did not have a power outlet since I was not seated in Economy Plus. My seat was 27A, a window seat. The seat itself was very tight but it did come with an adjustable headrest which was nice.

Our flight time was announced at 2 hours and 37 minutes. We finally pushed back at about 8:06 P.M. There was no queue for takeoff as the only other flight left to depart was a British Airways flight to London departing around 10:30 P.M. We had a rather bumpy takeoff at 8:15 P.M.

I had downloaded some shows off of Netflix on to my phone that I planned on watching so I did not watch anything on the IFE itself. United had a few movie options but none of them interested me. The IFE also listed several options for different sorts of shows but it didn't seem like you could select anything but a movie.

The flight was rather uneventful and we landed in Newark at about 12:30 A.M. The airport was extremely busy when we arrived because dozens of flights were late. We arrived at gate C95.

Conclusion

This was a very nice routine flight. It would have been a little better if we had not been delayed but that couldn't have been helped. It also would have been nice if United installed outlets for all passengers.
