The island of Sylt really provides some great nature and it is an excellent place to calm down, relax, do long walks or bike rides and enjoy some great food - here are some impressions:
On the way back home I decided to take the Inter City train from Westerland/Sylt to Hamburg which takes ca. 3 hours 30 minutes.
Here are some impressions of the old fashioned but cosy 1st class InterCity cars that were used on this day and train. Please note that DB German Railways also uses many InterCity cars that have been modernized with nice leather chairs in the meantime. So this old car was actually rather an exception.
The special part of this train ride is the fact that Sylt is connected to Germany's mainland by a small and narrow path of land that only hosts rail tracks - a great experience with sea to both sides of the train during the journey for the crossing that takes ca. 10 minutes.
The InterCity also featured a BordBistro to catch some snacks and drinks - I was surprised they continue to offer the full service in those Corona days. I bought a beer and warm ham & cheese panini and had it at my seat:

And I must say that LH positively surprises me. Le lounge has reopened (offer is low but at least there is something offered), flights to even Sylt have restarted and the board service was complete. Comparing with other legacy carriers this is top notch service :))
It's really bad to see these huge terminals empty and quiet, however, it kind of gives peace, especially in MUC where both terminals are always crowded.
- I find it really good that Lufthansa has opened their lounges in FRA & MUC and they're still offering some snacks and drinks at the lounge.
- This is also nice, alcohol and hot drinks being available on short-haul flights. Here in Turkey, TK does not have both on domestic flights, including Business Class.
I hope you enjoyed Sylt, the island, and your vacation.
Once again, thank you for both this report and the HAM-MUC one.
Nice to see that LH maintained a small service even in economy. Kudos to the crew for the improved drink service.
Sad to see MUC so empty, the airport takes advantage of the European borders reopening.
