Hello everyone and welcome to this second flight report of this series of a holiday with family in Corsica island.
I first joined my parents in Nice, where we stayed a few days, before crossing the med towards Bastia with our car… We went around the island clockwise up until Calvi and the wonderful Ile Rousse, where I left to fly back to London.
This was still the time where easyjet was still operating on the "first arrived first served" basis, and so no seats where assigned to you not even at check in, rather the battle for seats onboard still ongoing.
here is a seat map of the high density A320s
at london - gatwick airport
We arrived at London Gatwick airport by public transport (Tube and train; namely the Southeastern trains). At the time both terminals were stills used randomly by airlines, whereas now North Terminal is by Low cost and South terminal by legacy carriers.
Arriving at south terminal in gatwick, at the famous checkin counter.
Going through security
After a quick stop at the food court, I went to my gates… You remember seeing that many people? Yes it was the world before covid!
ANd through the very long corridor at south terminal to reach my gate.
onboard the a320
Boarding happened very randomly, as the airline was still offering seats on first come first served basis.
Aircraft: Airbus A320-214 Registration: G-EXXX (I can't remember I am sorry) Engines: 2x CFM56 Age: XX Years Layout: Y180 Observation: with the old livery (no new livery at the time!)
After push back we had the regular announce by the english captain in both english and he made an effort to also make it in french. The safety procedures explained in the old fashion way by the crew.
And we started taxiing towards the runway 26L
And take off!
After take off and the seat belt switched off passed 10,000 feet, the crew quickly started their on board service and i don't recall buring anything from the onboard menu.
Going through the typical great british weather!
and after flying over the channel, here was sunnier France..
and we started our descent over provence
turning left above toulon towards nice
Hello Cannes!
Just before the last alignment to the runway… You can clearly see Cannes harbours on the picture
and on finals…
On the pocket you could find the easyjet magasine, with a lot of adds and a few articles. I rushed to the end of the magasine to read through the airline and destination info.
As you can see, I was flying for a last time before Easyjet introduced to charge for seating!
at nice - cote d'azur airport
We landed facing east as most of the cases in Nice
and we arrived at terminal 1, this was before Easyjet was moved next to Air France on T2.
I apologises I don't have enough pictures for the wayback - just one of the boarding pass…

Conclusion
EZY: The cabin is quite a densed configuration, but this is a low-cost airline. The crew was quite professional and friendly, from this perspective Easyjet isn't definitely the worse of all the low-costs. No Wifi, no in flight app but the presence of flight magasine For me, any airline offering BoB has a lower ranking that 5.
LGW: Reaching north terminal is always a bit time consuming. A lot of services, the airport is quite big and lacks a bit of "style".
NCE: You can tell Terminal 1 is the old one... More interesting features from the outside than inside.
