Hi,

On a sunny Saturday afternoon my journey started with a quick and friendly check in at the First Class area that is accessible for Star Alliance Gold customers.

Security was also quick and I soon took the underground transfer train to bring me to the satellite building of Terminal 2.

The Senator Lounge in the satellite building was very crowded and it was quite hard to find a nice seat. The Lounge in general however looks rather nice with some great apron views and a nice bar.

The food & drink selection also is nice.

I had some small late lunch.

Some apron views on the parked aircraft.

This is the A350 bringing me to Vancouver that day.

photo img_0070

Boarding started a little bit delayed but orderly with priority lane first. A friendly cabin crew welcomed me onboard and I headed to my nice window seat 5K.

This is a very special Lufthansa A350 as it is one of the very few models recently leased and who keep the former Philippine Airlines seat layout. That means a box design in Business Class with much more privacy compared to LH's standard longhaul fleet that offers a rather outdated Business Class configuration.

photo img_0078

The seat is comfortable and provides nice privacy.

photo img_0079photo img_0081

It also offers a lot of stowage areas.

photo img_0082

I enjoyed the smooth boarding and soon welcome drinks were offered where I had a glass of sparkling wine.

photo img_0083photo img_0089

Printed menus were next - nice to see they are still available on Lufthansa.

photo img_0092photo img_0093

A safety video started and we taxied out for departure.

photo img_0096photo img_0098

We climbed into sunny skies and reached our cruising altitude soon.

photo img_0100photo img_0102photo img_0104

The inflight entertainment system provided a nice selection of entertainment and some good quality headsets were provided at each seat.

photo img_0105

The amenity kit came in the design of a reusable shopping bag and had some helpful content for the journey.

Inflight service started ca. 40 minutes into the flight when the aperitif trolley reached my row. At this moment also orders for starter and main dish were taken. I started with a Gin Tonic that was served with some nuts.

photo img_0106photo img_0108photo img_0110

Starter trays were served by hand directly from the galley follwed by bread from a basket. The tuna starter tasted nice.

photo img_0112photo img_0114

Drinks were also offered again at this oppportunity - in general the very friendly crew was always very proactively offering drink refills throughout the flight.

Next was the main course which was a steak on the rather dry side.

photo img_0116

I ordered the cheese plate and dessert cake to finish my meal.

photo img_0119photo img_0120photo img_0118

Flight progresses very quiet and I could enjoy some excellent views of Greenland.

After several hours a snack trolley came trough the cabin that offered a nice choice.

photo img_0138photo img_0145

About 1,5 hours before the landing an evening meal was offered where I opted for the cold main dish of salmon compared to warm pasta alternative. This meal was tasty and a nice end of the flight.

photo img_0151photo img_0152

During descend we had some nice views over the Rocky Mountains.

photo img_0157photo img_0160

Final approach over the suburbs of Vancouver was also nice and interesting.

photo img_0161photo img_0162photo img_0164

We passed some parked aircraft from Asia.

photo img_0165

Followed by some more European aircrafts getting ready for their journey back home.

Conclusion

A really nice and comfortable longhaul flight with Lufthansa: the cabin crew was extremely friendly, the seat comfortable with a lot of privacy and also the meal was nicely presented and tasty while still nothing extraordinary. Only things missing were hot towels, salt and paper shakers and a small side salad to the main dish - those items have disappeared unfortunately compared to pre covid days.

Just now read the first leg…?. This is the real very first FR on this cabin. Nice to see MUC empty and efficient. All the contrary of FRA. The meal service looks decent but I have the impression LH keeps serving always the same starter. The trash bag has one good point, you can reuse it to pack shoes or other stuff. I finally start to get used to it ?.
    Happy flying, Vincent

Hi Alex, nice to see a report on one of the ex-Philippine Airlines A350s! The Business cabin is so much better than LH's current Business class. The catering looks quite good and well-presented and served properly in multiple courses, unlike many other carriers that have gone to one-tray service since Covid.

    Thanks for sharing!

Hey thanks for sharing this FR. :)

Indeed, that was quite a great flight with a former Philippine Airlines A350 ; the cabin configuration is definitely better than the "Footsie-footsie". I can't wait to fly aboard their future Boeing 777-9.

The catering looks rather simple but that's okay.

Is it me or LH added new shopping bag models ? Chinese and Japanese ones looks great.

    Have safe flights. ;)
