Onehundred BA Flights!

Wow… It took me 22 years from June 2000- but here I am, making my 100th Flight with British Airways!

I opted to mark this flight by upgrading to Club Europe, just to celebrate this milestone as I don't know when I'll be at 200 or 250 flights. This also marks my 9th Flight in BA Business Class overall…

photo img_0295

My first flight was with BA in June 2000 flying from London LHR to Toronto YYZ with a Boeing 777-236(ER)

I've flown various aircraft in the British Airways fleet including: Airbus A319, Airbus A320-ceo, Airbus A321-ceo, Airbus A320-NEO, Airbus A321-NEO, Boeing 737-400, Boeing 767-300ER, Boeing 747-200, Boeing 747-400, Boeing 777-200ER, Boeing 777-300ER, Boeing 787-8 & Airbus A380-800. As well as Embraer ERJ-170 and ERJ-190 from BA Cityflyer. This doesn't include the flights I've done operated by JetTime (in 2016- report is on the site) and GB Airways in 2007/08.

Majority of my BA flights have been within the UK and Europe, mainly flying on Airbus A320-family aircraft.

photo dscf1615

Some of my favourite BA Flights were on their Boeing 767-336(ER) fleet from February 2015 to September 2018.

I've done most of my flights with BA within Europe. I will hopefully see more long-haul trips in the near future. I have done long haul flights to/from Toronto and New York. Whilst European trips have covered multiple locations including: Gibraltar, Edinburgh, Amsterdam, Stockholm, Vienna, Dublin, Belfast, Manchester, Madrid and Warsaw- which this reports about!

I did get a chance to fly a BA 747-400 from New York JFK to London LHR in early 2018. That's been my most recent long haul BA flight

So without further ado- let's get on with the review!

Warsaw Chopin- Ground Experience

Me and my travel companions arrived into Warsaw Chopin by an Uber taxi, which cost my mate £4.50p on his account, so transport from our city centre hotel was very cheap by UK standards! We arrived at the Terminal 2 complex, but it was the wrong area for BA, so we had to go over to the B-section of the check in area, which was a short walk from the A-section.

I didn't have any bags to check, so I went off to the Airport Lounge that had the contract with BA for their Club Europe flyers. Had I been flying Euro Traveller, I could also have used this Lounge with OneWorld Sapphire or Emerald tier membership. The Lounge in question was the Bolero Executive Lounge in the non-Schengen Area after passport control.

photo gopr3990photo gopr3993

I got to the lounge before it began to fill up, so I grabbed some mini chocolate goods with a coffee, after relaxing with that for a bit, I explored for a cold soft drink and some snacks from the warm food trays. A nice enough lounge for a good 2 hour stop, the food was nice and there was a shower facility for use, but I didn't have the time on this particular visit as we had gotten to the airport a bit late for a prolonged lounge experience.

I had offered to guest one of my travel companions into the Lounge, but neither were interested, so I grabbed a small handful of the mini Polish chocolates and handed them to my friends a little later. Is this Lounge worth the projected 150PLN (£27), I'll let you decide!

British Airways BA847 (WAW-LHR) in CLUB EUROPE!

What's that smell??? Why its G-EUPU!!!

photo img_2373

My 100th BA Flight was to be operated by one of my favourite aircraft types in the BA Short haul network, the Airbus A319- and in 100 BA flights it was nice to get this flight on an aircraft I hadn't flown on before.

photo gopr4004

I took my place in Seat 5A, which was the same seat I had utilised on the Boeing 737-400 flight, BA2945 back in August 2014 on my first solo trip. It offered a great view of the forward wing and left engine, so I knew I was in for some nice photos and film that afternoon.

photo gopr4007photo gopr4005

There were six rows of Club Europe on this flight, luckily for me my Row was only occupied by myself. The middle seat was blocked off and as is standard on the A320-ceo family, BA still uses the seat tray, which isn't used on the Airbus A320-neo variants. I would even go as far as to say the A320-ceo aircraft in the BA fleet are a better cabin experience in Club Europe than their newer 21st Century counterparts!

photo img_2659

We pushed back about 10 minutes later than planned due to restrictions at London Heathrow due to fog reducing visibility, this didn't cause too much of a hassle for our flight, as we'd still make up the flight time. The CE passengers all got a bottle of Harrogate Water from the crew and we had pushed back in no time at all, making the taxi from the non-Schengen area of Warsaw past the remote stand full of LOT ERJ and Q-400 as well as a Smartwings B737-8MAX before getting to the runway and racing off into the cloudy skies over Europe!

We powered through the clouds and got a welcome from a lovely sky once we broke the cloud level. I tried to plug into the USB port, but it would appear that Row 4 was going tech, so the cabin service manager helped me get my lead plugged into the row behind me and threaded my cable over so I could charge my phone a bit on the flight and allow me to use it. A very helpful experience!

photo gopr4026photo img_2668

Snack service kicked off with some seasoned nuts and some drinks- which I opted for a champagne and orange juice. I then opted to enjoy a Johnny Walker black label with a Cola to go with my meal when it arrived…

As it was a Club Europe flight, there was a meal service provided. Warsaw is one of the longer flights offered on this product, so three main course options were offered: A Chicken Curry, Prawn Cocktail and vegetarian Tomato pasta. There was no contest on my choice-
The Chicken Curry!

Eventually the flight would pass and we were coming up on England, I opted to round off my dinner with a hot tea. Our arrival would take us in the "long way around" as we descended over Essex passing locations as "exotic" as Basildon, Southend-on-Sea and Chelmsford.

photo gopr4041photo gopr4038

We made a single loop over North-East London just over Havering before carrying on across London, passing London Heathrow before making the final turn over Maidenhead, a town I know very well from growing up, then making in the final leg into LHR flying over Slough, Windsor and Colnbrook running parallel to the M4 Motorway. It also offered a really nice view of Windsor Castle on finals!

We came in on Runway 09L, the Northern Runway. We passed the Terminal 5 complex, where we would be parking up at once we vacated the runway and began to make our way to the T5-A Gates.

photo gopr4057photo gopr4061

We parked up on stand, next to another Airbus A319 and the flight was over. Once the jet bridge was connected the crew allowed the passengers to leave the aircraft, so I stayed back and waited for my travel companions to join me at the front of the plane from their seats in economy, once we had all joined up, we left the aircraft as we had to make our ways home that afternoon. Luckily it was a very short experience at passport control that day.

So there's my 100th BA Flight all over and done with, here's to the next 100 BA Flights plus my 300th Flight overall next year!!!

Conclusion

BA Club Europe- Another solid experience from BA, I know European Business class gets a bad press from travellers, but it offers a good service product. Lounge access and food on this flight were amazing. The crew members were really helpful on this flight. I wish BA would at least offer High Flyer magazines to their Club passengers at least, I know they offer them at LHR, I personally miss them on the flights given that BA phased out the overhead screens on the A320 fleet.

Warsaw Chopin- I really liked the airport it was modern, offered some great views around the Airport, had a nice selection of Airport Lounges you could use if you had the opportunity to. I had some trouble locating the lounge, but I did get there in the end.

Hey Jett, congrats on your 100th BA flight and on making Gold status on FR! As a fan of BA myself, I agree that they offer a solid product in short-haul J, compared to other Euro carriers. It's one of the nicer Euro-biz cabins and the food is consistently good, as seems to have been the case on your flight. The only thing that would make the experience better (considering that real business recliners aren't a possibility) would be streaming IFE.

Thanks for sharing and congrats again!

Hi Jett, thanks for sharing this FR on your BA "centenary". Interesting that CA sends its passengers to the 3rd party lounge instead of the LO Lounge. BA is a solid product in Europe with classy cabins, usually friendly crews, and good catering. Three options for entree is good for intra-European flights. Not often the weather in London is not the reason for a delay ;)

this is good , on many carriers in europe you wont get even a choice . and the meal + drinks you got seems fine

Our hotel on this visit was the NYX Hotel by Leonardo Hotel's Group- an experience I personally couldn't fault!

you are lucky , it recently opened , and the skyscraper nearby just got completed

I'm most certainly going to be giving Warsaw another visit in the hopefully near future!!!

You should , i 100% recommend during spring or summer ....

I mainly went to see a gig in Warsaw, hence going in late November. But a spotting trip to Chopin during the summer is a must! I also want to visit the crash sites of the two LOT IL-62 in the area too.

Hey Jett thanks a lot for your 100th BA flight!
The lounge looks very similar to the fantzja lounge in WAW, they clearly had the some decoration designer!
Stunning picture of the 747, I truely miss seeing her.
The cabin is quite nice in Business, altho I wish european carriers would offer an IFE system like everywhere else..
the meal looks tasty indeed, and you were lucky for the 3 course meal, you are right on shorter flights the meal offered is more of a one large course meal!

Glad you enjoyed the read, quite a nice lounge at WAW- I would pay for entry on a longer stay at the Airport. BA has a good Club Europe product in my opinion though there is room for improvement too.
