Welcome to the last episode of my flash trip to England! This is my last leg to get back home from MAD.

So here is where we left it before, just out of the plane from LHR and on my way to T4 to catch my connecting flight to OVD.

photo img_1468photo img_1470

MAD is a busy airport and the blue screens show all flights from all terminals… which can feel a bit overwhelming!

photo img_1469

After passport control I headed to the lift to go down to the train to T4.

photo img_1471

This is a busy time and the train is packed with passengers.

photo img_1472-43223

On the other side is quite crowded as well.

photo img_1473

My advise here is to always take the lift, as the alternative is an endless succession of escalators that are as slow as they can get! The picture is not great but it gives an idea of the height of the trip up.

photo img_1474

After you are out you are out in the luggage pick up area and have to follow the flight connection signs to go through security again.

photo img_1475-84854

The bright side is that this security check is usually very quiet, apart from the early morning wave of Latam and US flights.

photo img_1476

Once in I head directly to the IB Dalí lounge.

photo img_1477photo img_1478

On top of the escalators you see the signs for the airport run lounge, which is as well nice (though not as nice).

photo img_1479-76982

But immediately after you see the signs for the IB lounge.

photo img_1480

So up the escalators.

photo img_1481

And at the end of the corridor we see the entrance.

photo img_1483

Which I find very welcoming.

photo img_1484

There is always a good amount of agents to wish you the "Bienvenido a Iberia". There is as well an automatic gate on the left side for travelers without companions that is a good option to skip the queues, which is not the case for me today.

photo img_1485-59486

The lounge is modern looking and with a lot of natural light. As you enter there is a table sitting area, which is generally crowded.

photo img_1486-74890

With a buffet and some sofas in the back.

photo img_1487-65633

I always go through the bar…

photo img_1488

…and into the second buffet area, which is usually a lot more quiet.

photo img_1489-95698

Dinner offering for today is Vichyssoise.

photo img_1490

And a well garnished buffet.

photo img_1491-24802

Meatballs and potato purée.

photo img_1492

Vegetarian noodles, daal and rice. There was as well a big salad bar that I did not take pictures of, but it can be partially seen in the background.

photo img_1493

After having some dinner I head to my gate, J58, which wasn't too much of a walk.

photo img_1494-76629photo img_1495

The plane of the day is EC-IEF, the same A320 that I took for my OVD-MAD flight a couple of days before.

photo img_1496

Priority boarding starts quickly.

photo img_1497photo img_1498photo img_1499

But there is a short wait at the door of the plane.

photo img_1500

Seats were the classic IB's Recaro ironing board.

photo img_1503

And leg space is on the tight side…

photo img_1504

Contents of the seat pocket. The onboard menu features the violet-scented sea salt chocolate cookie… which I tried in the past and it's YUMMY!!! (though not cheap, as it's €4.5). I like how on the last flight in the evening all sandwiches have a reduced price.

There is a short taxi.

And we take off. See the nice views over Madrid.

You can see Avilés during landing, which is a lot nicer during the day, where you can see the coast and mountains.

At arrival we deplane quickly.

photo img_1535photo img_1536

And go into a quite deserted terminal, as this is the last flight of the day.

photo img_1537photo img_1538photo img_1539

And the last step is the luggage pick up area.

Hola Quicmann! Thanks for this final report in the series!

My advise here is to always take the lift, as the alternative is an endless succession of escalators that are as slow as they can get!

How right you are. If you're in any kind of hurry, DO NOT take the escalators, there are soooo many levels and it takes FOREEEEVER. Great advice there!

But immediately after you see the signs for the IB lounge.

Also very good that you point this out because when coming from downstairs it can be quite confusing finding the IB lounge as it's around the corner behind you. Years ago when I did my first T4S to T4 transit, I somehow missed the IB lounge and ended up at the AENA lounge, where they then explained where the IB lounge was. Now, of course I can get there with my eyes close haha

…and into the second buffet area, which is usually a lot more quiet.

Hahaha, we have the same exact habits at the Dali lounge! I always go to the far "room" beyond the bar to avoid the crowds. I like to sit at the tables along the balcony to see over the boarding gates and planes outside. And I love that there are power plugs and USB at every table.

Very informative report to those who may not be familiar with transiting between T4S and T4. Thanks for sharing!

      You are very wolcome!

Clearly, all the usuals at the Dalí lounge have similar habits. I was there a couple of days ago and it was so crowded that it was hard to find a seat even in the back room. Perks of flying on Friday during the afternoon rush hour!
