Introduction and London City Airport (LCY)

For our recent trip to Spain we decided to take a BA CityFlyer flight from London City Airport. It's an interesting route because BA CityFlyer typically connects to business destinations, but this route to Málaga is clearly aimed at leisure.

We decided to stay the night before our flight at a hotel near the airport, just on the North side of Royal Albert Dock. The short walk over the bridge and to the airport provided a great chance to watch planes coming in to land, and get some fresh morning air. Once over the bridge the walk to the airport wasn't quite as nice, as clearly the route has been designed with travel via the DLR or car in mind. Nevertheless we arrived in good time, straight to the BA bag drop which is just past the entrance.

London City Airport is one of my favourite airports to travel from. As it's primarily designed for business travellers, security is fast and efficient  and helpfully there are charging points at every single seat in the waiting area. The downside of LCY is the small size, which means there's not a huge amount of choice for breakfast, but we popped into Truman's Brick Lane Brews for a coffee and a sausage roll.

Once our gate was announced we slowly ambled over. Upon arriving at the gate we went down a staircase to the small waiting area, before being called up to board the plane.

Our plane for today's flight was an Embraer E-190, registration G-LCYU operated by BA CityFlyer. The Embraer E190 is a small plane, with a 2-2 seat layout and 25 rows, for 98 passengers total.

I'm a little shorter than average height, so I never have a problem with legroom. The seats were simple but comfortable. As is standard on BA CityFlyer flights, there are no entertainment systems or charging points.

The flight itself was straightforward with no surprises. Once in the air we were served a small drink and a snack.

Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport (AGP)

The arrival at Málaga Airport went smoothly, and we managed to find our way through security and baggage claim easily.  We didn't spend much time here as we were eager to get through to our end destination by the seaside!

Conclusion

Overall we had a good experience. The service was efficient and easy, and we had no problems at all. The lack of entertainment brings down the overall airline score, but really it's not expected on a flight like this so it doesn't really matter. LCY remains one of my favourite airports for efficiency, and AGP was easy to get through on arrival too.

Thanks for sharing your first review here with us! LCY is indeed a very convenient and efficient airport--much less stressful than LHR. Cityflyer service is generally better than mainline BA and E-Jets are a comfortable ride with the 2-2 seating and usually better seat pitch than mainline as well. The only thing missing that the mainline A320 family jets have is USB power ports. Seems like a good way to get to Spain from London.

    Thanks for sharing and welcome!
