Hello and welcome to another Cathay Pacific Trip Report, this time in business class from Hong Kong to Brisbane. After a couple of days of family time, it is time to head back to work, and what better way to do it then in business class! Unfortunately no lounge shots today due to a tight schedule.
Flight routing
- 1
- 2CX157 - Hong Kong to Brisbane
- 3VA332 - Brisbane to Melbourne
- 4VA341 - Melbourne to Brisbane

Today's seat was 24D - and features their first generation reverse herringbone seat by Safran. This seat is honestly starting to feel old on the 777s - the updated seat on the 350 fleet is far superior, with additional storage, a much better (and more responsive IFE) plus some design improvements.
The good news is that Cathay has announced a refurbishment of their 777-300ER Fleet - with their new 'ARIA' seat to be installed from Q2 2024. This seat is based on the Collins Aerospace Element Seat, as seen on Etihad and Starlux (who I am very eager to try out soon). Looks like it will come with a sliding door too which is will be great, as the current seat in the aisle does feel a tiny bit exposed, even with the small wing.

I tried the signature Cathay Delight, which consists of:
- Kiwi Fruit Juice
- Coconut Milk
- Mint Leaf
It was actually quite refreshing and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Unfortunately being in a middle seat meant no window views, sorry!!
We pushed back one minute ahead of schedule at 1:09PM Hong Kong time and begun the 40 minute taxi to the departing runway. Hong Kong International Airport is currently undergoing an array of improvement works, as such taxi times on arrival and departure seem to be extended at the moment. No matter, I am comfortable in my seat!!

I kicked the chair back into a recline mode, and started up Dallas Buyers Club, which I had not watched since it first released, what feels like a life time ago.
Infotainment System is just as dated as on the A330 on my previous trip report, incredibly slow and showing its age. This is the second 777-300ER on this trip where the bellycam has been inop which is annoying.
I also knocked Midnight Cowboy and Annie Hall off the list. The latter I enjoyed massively, even if Woody Allen is a bit of a creep….

The entree came, it was a parma ham, bocconcini and farro salad (apologies I forgot to take a picture before I started eating..). It was okay…

For the main I had the Vietnamese Pork Chop with lemongrass, ginger rice, and a coleslaw. It was fantastic as you can see from the empty plate!! It was washed down with a white whine from Burgundy.

For dessert I made sure to get everything on offer for you guys (and to take a picture before demolishing it all.
Cheese was a mixture of brie, double gloucester and "swiss style cheese". All was tasty.
Cake was an 'Opera Cake', I have to admit this was not something I had heard of before, it looked good, but was nothing special.

A small meal was served before landing - the infamous Cathay Burger - which I feel like has been on the menu for c. 10+ years - it is normally offered as a mid-flight snack on their NA and Europe flights, with the former having it served with potato chips (crisps for all you Brits) (which is just weird by the way, I don't care what you Americans say).
Burger hit the spot, dessert was a coconut panna cotta with little popping yogurt pearls - it was…. interesting.
I was lucky enough to sit in first class for the same flight earlier in the year (although it was sold as business). Seat is dated compared to alot of offerings out there but service was fantastic (and still way more comfortable than business class!). Senior Purser made the flight special :)

A nice experience for a relatively quick 8h flight. I'll take your word for it that the catering was good ...i assume so since you ate it all before taking a pic ???
Cathay crews are always lovely, which helps to elevate the experience. The cabins on the 77Ws and A330s are starting to show their age and are due for a refresh, but still a very competitive and comfortable product.
Thanks for sharing!
