Hello, and welcome to my 1st ever trip report! I'm saving my energy and keyboard for a job application I desperately need to find the energy for, so I'll mostly let the pictures do the talking!
I've never been particularly fond of Jet2, but whilst having a browse I stumbled across the change to grab a ride of their classic 737, to sunny Spain, and for less than the cost of Ryanair! Could this be the chance for me finally see why everyone loves the Jess Glynne airline?
I timed my arrival to LBA perfectly, at exactly 2 hours before departure. Despite the fog there were no delays this morning. After a quick bite to eat at the Greggs, I got through security ahead of the the group who had priority and got to skip ahead of me. The new security scanners are a boon to use!
LBA is my local, and whilst I don't normally rate it, it was tolerable once the early morning rush starts to go away and I am looking forward to seeing how the terminal extension pans out.
Our ride for today, a 1998 build 737-300. Previous operators include Go, easyJet and bmibaby, the former of which I would have loved to fly with.
Cabin was spotless and typical jet2 branding, but with plenty of 90s vibes. I greeted warmly by the sole crew member in the rear and originally settled in 15D. My usual plan of boarding last to try get extra legroom doesn't seem to work these days, as late boarders seem to appear from nowhere! I moved to 19A after takeoff to escape some loud talkers, and eventually ended up in row 1 - where I belong!
4 days prior to departure I logged into my booking and saw that Jet2 were offering 20% off their pre-order meals. For the sake of this report (he says…) I went for it. I went for the all day breakfast which was served so quickly after take off that I'm still amazed. Portion size was very poor but full marks for flavour of the breakfast. The Starbucks coffee was surprisingly good, but I would have expected more if I had paid full price.
Rest of the flight was spent dozing and reading. Apart from a brief piece of the Pyrenees poking out there was nothing to sea until we were over the sea and starting our descent.
Touch down was smooth and once parked at a bus gate I got to have a great chat with the First Officer and Captain. The Jet2 757s should be gone by January 2025, but it seems this might not be my last chance to catch the 300 series after all…
Nice flight report, I enjoyed reading it! I did a JER-LBA flight earlier in 2024 to fly the Jet2 737-300 as well, its a good chance to fly the 737-Classic before they're only flying cargo ops in the near future.
Nice to get to ride a 737 Classic these days! The cabin is an eclectic mix with such modern slimline seats on this old bird. The pre-order food looks pretty good.
Thanks for sharing and welcome!
Nice to fly on these oldies 737 classic!
Beautiful pictures
Didn't know Jet2 was still having some classic 737s in their fleet, so that must have been a great experience, though I never understood those awful seats Jet2 applies to their cabin.
