Hello everyone ! Welcome to my first ever review. I'm a new user but an old reader of Flight Report, and figured that with the many flights I take, I could write a review once in a while. This review will be in English, but I might make some reviews in French as well for my dear transalpine cousins. If you have any constructive feedback, feel free to share it with me.

Today I'm here to bring you on an exciting trip from Milano to Dubai via Rome. This report will cover the first leg from Linate to Fiumicino. In this fight, I will be traveling in Economy.

Introduction and ground experience

I arrived at the Milan-Linate "Enrico Forlanini" airport at around 06:00 on a freezing, dark, and foggy morning, and went to check-in at the ITA Airways counters. There was almost no queue, and I had SkyPriority thanks to my connecting flight ticket in Premium.

While the check-in desks were almost deserted, the situation was on the contrary at the security checkpoint. There was a bit of a wait but I was through in a reasonable time.

And here is the beautiful, modern, and recently renovated central salon in Linate.

I then proceeded to my gate, A08, which unfortunately was not one of the jetways above but a bus gate.

Boarding process

I was quite early so sat and waited for boarding to start, and it was scheduled at 07:30. Boarding started early at exactly 07:19, for a departure time of 08:00. I then boarded the cobus to take us to the aircraft.

I got on board where a friendly crew member greeted me and I went to my seat, 25B. I had a neighbour in 25C and after boarding was completed I moved to the free window seat for more room. We had a makeshift intra-Europe business class. Boarding was very efficient.

The aircraft was new and modern, and had a very stylish disco-style lighting. Interiors on ITA are elegant and designer. Nicely done, ITA !

Legroom wasn't great, but on par with most other European carriers.

Remnants of the old, legacy Alitalia. Still nice to see !

Takeoff and service

The aircraft then started taxiing and departed perfectly on-time. The crew started performing the safety demo.

Shortly thereafter, we took off very softly and smoothly, and up we went into the Milanese cold and candid white fog.

But as they say, it's always sunny above the clouds…

The views upon climb and reaching cruising altitude were absolutely stunning. There was little to no turbulence which made the journey all the more pleasant.

The service was simple yet good enough for such a short flight. It consisted in just a drink, and I went for my usual coca cola zero and was handed it by a friendly and smiling FA.

In the meantime, we were already descending.

They cleared the rubbish on top of descent and consequently, the first officer made his announcement that we'll be arriving soon. A PNC made multilingual announcements for transit passengers and their gates upon landing.

Views on approach were very nice, too.

Arrival

Here we are in Rome Fiumicino Airport "Leonardo da Vinci". We've touched down 17 minutes early.

It's obvious who the dominator is here.

We swiftly disembarked and I went on to my connection to DXB. You may read the report for that flight as well.

Arrivederci !

  • Hi there, great first review! I can tell that you’ve been reading the site for a while since it’s so well done for a first report.

Nice that you got one of the “good” ITA A320neos with the USB ports and newer cabins. I wonder if they will update the ex-S7 neos with newer cabins. The inconsistent cabins in the fleet is one of the remaining rough spots for ITA with so many old Alitalia cabins still around. Hopefully ITA will refurb older aircraft to the new standards soon for a more consistent experience.

    Thanks for sharing and welcome!

    • Hi, thanks for reading ! Thank you for the kind words.

Yes, I got one of the better ones with the signature interior. I think they will update the S7 cabins for sure to achieve consistency, but not the old Alitalia cabins (which are older but more comfortable imo). The A320ceo aircraft will remain as is probably and then will be retired in a few years.

      Thanks again.
