Today's journey starts from the capital city of Santiago in Chile.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-202210

After an amazing few days we headed over to Santiago International Airport to catch our flight over to Buenos Aires.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-202233

Both a KLM and Air France flight depart within 30 minutes here at SCL, so the check-in desks were naturally very busy.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-202245

This didn't really apply to us though as we were eligible for the Sky Priority lane and it was almost empty. We just bypassed the entire queue and managed to bag drop really quickly.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-202306

Super efficient service from KLM.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-202316

As we transited through security, this light aircraft is stationed inside the security hall. What a cool feature!

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-202326

Post security, we had access to a lounge with KLM business class ticket.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-202335

For us, it was the SkyTeam Alliance lounge.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-202345

I loved this artwork! How cool is this?

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-202404

There's a bar, although alcoholic beverages are restricted until the afternoon.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-202420

There's a small office area for printing documents or completing work.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-202444

And towards the rear, a small help yourself buffet style setup.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-202432

We grabbed a seat next to the floor-to-ceiling windows, to nab great views of the apron and runway.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-202454

There was also four a la carte options available which consisted of scrambled eggs (top left), a quiche lorraine with salad (top right), a vegetarian broccoli and cheese quiche with salad (bottom right) and french toast with strawberries and syrup, all available to order through the SkyTeam Lounge QR code.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-202552

There was also several continental options, too.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-202605

After filling up, we went to the gate ready to board our aircraft which flies in daily from Buenos Aires. The crew operate AMS-EZE before taking a nights rest, the day after they operate the round-trip EZE-SCL-EZE fifth-freedom leg before taking a further nights rest, and then operate the EZE-AMS leg back home.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-202614

Business class benefits from Sky Priority Zone 1 boarding.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-202631

Our aircraft today is PH-BQE, a 22 and a bit year old Boeing 777-200ER.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-202705

And with that, we were the first to head down the airbridge and board the aircraft.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-202901

We headed down the first aisle as I was seated in 4A, and the husband just ahead in 3A.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-202915

And I must admit, first impressions were very good. I like the look of this seat.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-202944

The seat benefits from a very comfortable and cushioned leather headrest.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203021

There was also a full sized soft cotton pillow waiting for me on the seat.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203036

There's a crystal clear IFE screen ahead of me.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203047

Touch-sensitive buttons for adjusting the seat, enabling the massage feature and the do not disturb sign.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203101

There's a storage cupboard to the left.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203108

And even on this short flight, KLM give you a set of noise cancelling headphones.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203120

There's also an adjustable leather armrest to the right of the seat.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203132

And excellent legroom, there's certainly no complaints in this department!

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203202

Then just before pushback, we were handed a personalised route specific dated menu for our flight from SCL-EZE.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203221

This was accompanied by a selection of welcome drink.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203233

I opted for a glass of KLM's "Royal Blue" mocktail. It was delicious!

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203246

We then roared into the air out of SCL.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203436

The seatbelt sign stayed on longer than normal owing to our circling pattern before we crossed the Andes mountains. It does get quite bumpy on the climb out.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203447

The views though are ABSOLUTELY worth it.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203458

Once safe to do so, the crew began their service. This started with a hot towel.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203510

My table was then laid with a lovely patterned, white cotton tablecloth.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203519

I took the time to peruse the drinks. The offering was very good for such a short flight.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203536

I bumped the in-flight map onto the IFE screen. You can also port content to the smaller remote. I really like airlines that offer this feature.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203546

And just like that, lunch was served! What a spread.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203556

All metal cutlery was provided by KLM. A good plus point.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203605

My starter was a marinated smoked trout with dill served with cream cheese-horseradish, courgette roll and pea hummus.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203612

A pumpkin topped wholewheat roll, served warm, with butter.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203620

My main course was a tenderloin beef fillet roll filled with dried tomato, cheese and arugula served with roasted garlic and cheese mashed potatoes, provençal courgette and creamy mushroom sauce. It was superb.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203628

Dessert was a traditional Alfajor with chocolate.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203642

To drink, I opted for the Bols Curacao Dry Orange with angostura bitters. Tart and sweet, a perfect compliment to my meal.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203741

The crew then came around offering chocolates for all passengers in business class. These were in the shape of their iconic Delft Houses.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203753

The husband was super happy that he got his glass of milk, too. Talk about service highlights!

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203823

I quickly tested out the bed, it was really comfortable and supportive. The pillow was great, too. It would definitely come into it's own on long haul sectors for sure.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203838

The legroom was also really good. Plenty of room to move.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203855

The toilets were exceptionally clean with Marie Stella Marie toiletries on offer, not to mention the funky Delft House wall design to the left.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203845

There was even a tulip on display. How neat!

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203908

Much to my surprise, the cabin crew then brought around the tray of Delft Houses, offering each passenger a takeaway keepsake. They're made of ceramic and are highly sought-after collectables given to World Business Class passengers on intercontinental flights. Filled with genuine Dutch gin, each tiny ceramic building replicates a real historical structure in the Netherlands.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203923

We opted for 2026 numbers 97 and 95.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203934

These were a replica of the a famous Hotel New York in Rotterdam (left), and a replica of the historic 1913 Heineken Brewery in Amsterdam (right).

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-203943

And that was it, we began our descent into Buenos Aires. This flight flew (if you'll pardon the pun!).

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-204002

We got a great view of the scenery as we descended into Argentina.

photo screenshot-2026-06-21-at-204026

And that my friends, was a perfectly executed business class experience. 10/10, no notes - it was an absolute pleasure to fly KLM's World Business Class, albeit on such a short fifth-freedom leg. Thanks for reading and watching and as always, I'll see you next week.

Conclusion

Flying a Dutch airline between Chile and Argentina might sound unusual… but that’s exactly what KLM does on one of the world’s most fascinating fifth freedom routes.

Join me onboard KLM’s Boeing 777-200ER as we fly from Santiago to Buenos Aires in World Business Class, experiencing a route many travellers don’t even realise exists. From the warm Dutch hospitality and iconic Delft House gift to the unique atmosphere onboard, this was a seriously memorable flight.

KLM quietly operates one of the strangest routes in South America, and the onboard experience is surprisingly premium. Come along for the ride!
