Trying to make some trip out of my island in the Carnival period, I found out Edelweiss Air as the option, since they operated twice weekly ZRH-FNC-ZRH on Saturdays and Tuesdays. As the first experience with this airline was outstanding (flew ZRH-FNC past JAN 2014) I decided to try again the business class product on this route. In fact I bought a onward fare on www.swiss.com FNC-ZRH-GVA-ZRH-FNC for about 512 EUR. Those flights are code-share flights between LX and WK.

Arriving FNC airport 1h20 before departure time, I checked one piece of luggage. The business class counter was full of other passengers but I made my way ahead of them. After security was time to entry TAP Portugal lounge, but, since the handling agent for Edelweiss flights does not operate any lounge at FNC, the confusion started. Somes passengers, even travelling in C class and/or holding Star Alliance GOLD cards, were denied entry in the TAP lounge. This should be clarified for the future.

Boarding was on time, captain was standing at the front doord welcoming all passengers. 3 row business class section, 7 pax seating there, Y class was almost full. Welcome drinks were served. A choice of water, orange juice and champagne was offered. Still in the ground crew give the menu with the description of all the items of the lunch service.

10 minutes after take off was time to pass over Porto Santo island with a splendid view over it. Then, hot towels were given and also headphones to listen one of the 12 music channels. about 45 minutes into the flight crew served drinks and salty snacks. After it was time for the tray. The table was done for it with a towel. Salad and Starter: seasonal salad with egg and duck breast with lentil salad and orange fillets. Then time for the hot plate: main course: fillet of beef with canterelle cream sauce, yellow and red carrots, brocolli and potato grain. During this time bread and drinks were offered several times, the crew being always present and attentive. Afterwards was time for the selection of cheeses. Those were presented in a tray, together with crackers, from where the pax could choose what they want. A Porto wine was suggested then. The same procedure with the desserts soon after. 2 choices were available from a tray. Finally a chocolate box was offered with finest Swiss chocolates. It was also time for a Baileys. This lunch service finished about 1h30 before arrival, there was time for rest before a small snack and drinks was offered about 30 minutes before landing.

Conclusion

Overall it was a excellent service, very worth for the money spent. Would fly again with Edelweiss and whenever possible.

    Welcome and thanks for this FR on this nice little airline.

    If you booked the flight on LX's website then this flight should be considered as * Alliance and you have been able to use the lounge.

    Otherwise, the service on a medium haul flight is really amazing with a meal served dish by dish and not everything at the same time on a tray.

      Yes that problem of acessing the lounge is due that, despite having an LX issued ticket, the flight is operated by Edelweiss Air metal, which is not Star Alliance carrier. They should work for an agreement with TAP lounge for the WK business class and Star GOLD passengers to be allowed to entry.

    Great pictures and good narrative. However, it would make for more pleasant reading if you interspersed them : text - picture(s) - text - picture(s), etc..
    What is missing is pictures of the seat and the cabin, but this is a promising first try.
    Are you based in Madeira ? I'm looking forward to other interesting reports in the future.

    For what is technically an intra-Europe flight, it is impressive to see a coursed meal instead of a single tray service. The cheese plate could be improved, but overall exceptional quantity. Although you get better catering, it's unfortunate you still get stuck with the European business cabin with poor seat width/pitch on a 4 hour flight.

    As Marathon suggest, for future reports it's easier to read when the text is intercalated into the photos.
