I took the 4 days off due to Easter to re-visit Vienna. The last time I was there was in 2002, so it was time to see the beauties of the capital of Austria again and also to visit the Slovak capital, Bratislava. I book the TKT FNC-LIS-VIE-FNC with TAP, taking the opportunity to fly with Austrian Airlines again (TAP and OS have code-share on the VIE-FNC route). In fact this would be my second time on the route VIE-FNC, as, in March 2006, I did the first B777 OS flight to Madeira.

I took the CAT to the airport, arriving at VIE 2h10 before the flight around 7h55. I had plenty of time to do some shopping and also to enjoy the time at Star Alliance Gold lounge. From there I could see my plane at the F8 gate. It would be A321 OE-LBF, delivered to Austrian in March 2001.

Boarding started 20 min before departure and I could count about 150 pax in a full Y cabin. Is not so common to see OS to operate this flight with an A321, as A320 is the most used. Flying time would be 4h40. As we took off 15 behind schedule, the arrival would be slightly delayed.

The almost direct route from VIE to FNC took us over Geneva, then Toulouse and north of Lisbon. The hot meal, very well presented, was served just 40 min after take-off. It included smashed potatoes, beef, bread (offered twice from a basket) and a mango pudding all done by DO&CO and all tasty! However portions could be bigger. 1h00 before landing some pretzels and drinks were also offered.

Austrian Airlines offers a good product in Y class on this longer european flight, operating the weekly service between VIE and FNC every sunday from March to November.

Thanks so much for this report,
I like this original (but tiny) OS catering.
Your pics about Funchal are great!
Thank you for sharing this FR with us!
The presentations of this meal looks very interesting. The quality looks good on pictures, a slightly larger portion size could've been nice as you mentioned.
Beautiful aerial shots!
Have a good one, see you!
