Visit to malaysia

Hello everyone,

after a few days spent in Singapore, we wanted to relax on the beautiful island of Langkawi and Kuala Lumpour.

Miles earned with this flight: 250 Avios
Status earned: 5 Tier points

Malaysia Airlines was offering attractive prices, despite a high competition with other low-cost airlines, and so we booked with them to also claim avios.

Routing

Four of the flights were going to be operated with B737-800 aircrafts so not much variety here unfortunately.
As you can see the cabin was fit with just 160 seats, a rather comfortable configuration.

at singapore - changi airport

We arrived by Taxi to the airport - which is a bit far from the town centre. What is immediately striking is, just like everywhere at Singapore, the presence of greeneries everywhere, and even in the airport with this absolutely stunning waterfall.

Our flight was departing from terminal 2.

Lady at check-in gave us this leaflet to keep our boarding pass safe, a nice gesture becoming a bit rare in Europe.

After going through the passport control, here were my added stamp to my colection!

The terminal is very bright and also famous for being entirely carpeted, a really nice feeling when you walk.

Here was our bird approaching from her previous flight, you would have guessed the origin!

I don't remember how boarding happened, I am sure the business and Oneworld executive members were called first.

I remember being VERY surprised as it was one of the rare occasions when I was seeing REAL business class seats eve on a narrow body aircraft!

photo dsc09052017-8

Even the economy class seats were very generous and comfy, look at that!
Of course they were all reclining.

photo dsc09052017-2

And another surprise as every seats were equipped with IFE.

There are always a lot of clouds in Singapore and a lot of humidity.

Entering Malaysia airspace

The complimentary service - could have been a bit better in quantity but I don't really mind for such a short flight.

The IFE, with an USB plug so you could see your own pictures

Finally on approach towards Kuala Lumpur.

Malaysia Airlines offered a personal copy to take away:

photo 20211217_173458

With quite an extensive network even though Malaysia Airlines used to be more present - but never actually managed to pick up since the two fatal accidents on its B777 fleet.

The page of the fleet - quite condensed to a very few types.

We arrived with this view on the satellite terminal, mainly used by any other airlines.

Conclusion

SIN: one of the nicest airports to leave from. Very efficient, lost of services, extremly clean althought just a tiny bit far from the town centre.

Malaysia Airlines: I was pleasantly surprised, the crew were very nice, fully functionning IFE , just the snack could have been a bit better but all in all athey have set the bar higher than in Europe.

KUL: Unfortunately looking at these two airports in the same flight is not nice for KUL as it is slightly more dirty and a bit less efficient.

    Hi Chris,
Still in post récupération bibitive of the nouvelle-année?
A FR from 2017 in English on ze FR en français? Seriously :-) ?

Hey Chris, A very complete report for being for a retro-report from 2017!

SIN is just a fantastic airport--it's always such a pleasure to fly to/from and transit Changi! I've been lucky to have flown through SIN many times, though now in a few years, sadly. I haven't seen the beautiful new waterfall and gardens in person yet.

Ah yes, real Business class recliners in J, generous legroom in Y with seat-back IFE, such is the norm for premium Asian carriers--much better product than most of us in Europe of the US are used to. The catering is also usually quite impressive, though this route is an exception to that rule for both MH and SQ with the flight being so short.

    Thanks for sharing!

      Hi Kevin

thanks for stopping by and again happy new year to you! Hope you had a nice NYE that I imagine by the swimming pool in sunny california!
Yes I realise I have so many old pictures that I thought could be fun to share with everyone, not for the sake of sharing but also to compare the Covid times with the previous world!

I'd be funny if someone posts a REALLY old FR from an European legacy offering a full 3 course meal on a thick reclining cabin on an 1 hour flight!

not for the sake of sharing but also to compare the Covid times with the previous world!

The "before-times" before everything went to absolute shite lol

Thanks for sharing Chris. I'm supposed to go to Malaysia this year and interested to see the different options available. Malaysia has good rating and your report confirms this. SIN is a great airport for South East Asia but in times of COVID, will be hard now to commute over SIN. Probably better to flight directly to KUL from Europe, Istanbul of one of the ME3.
Looking now for the bonus in Langkawi ;)
    Cheers, Vincent
