MARUU'RU
or Thanks to French Polynesia for this sumptuous trip..

We had chosen not to continue on the AF79 flight to CDG but to take the next one at 1pm the next day for two reasons:
1. We don't know L.A., it's an opportunity to visit quickly the town
2. This allows us to break the 12-hour time difference in two, hoping to reduce a bit the jetlag.
A quick bonus from Santa Monica Pier!

We end up at a nice mexican restaurant for diner

We were staying at the Marriott airport, a really nice stay clode by the airport with large rooms. Nothing beats a refreshing swim before a long haul flight!

Quick view on our pool

We checked in online as usual

The flight will be operated by B777-200ER with a cabin called "business" because it does not offer two business cabins unlike the leisure configuration.

AT LOS ANGELES - INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
We take the free Marriott shuttle to the airport.
The driver appeals to our purse and to the son of God XD

Who drops us off in front of the TBIT and the people mover - which was still under construction at the time.

Not sure why but Air France check in counters are not next to its SkyTeam mates.

Loads of people but lickilly the priority lane is there.

There is a huge queue even in the priority lane..
Let's move on to security, which is located below this not very aesthetic structure.

Delta is also operating from the TBIT for its international routes.

A rare sight in France: the B748

The prettiest livery on a B787 for sure!

AT THE KOREAN AIR LOUNGE
I head towards the KAL lounge as I did on the way there automatically.

The attendant apologizes since the previous day (July 1st 2022) Air France has no longer an agreement with KAL for its passengers (not sure why, I thought any Skyteam lounge would welcome any Skyteam passenger)
AT THE ONEWORLD - QUANTAS LOUNGE
We wait our turn, these French passengers seem a little exasperated at not being able to invite more of their compatriots. The welcome for us is very warm and friendly.

We have only recently left the hotel but a shower is always nice…

I find the living room a bit low ceilinged, but has a lot of various spaces and seems much larger than KAL's.

We all love a nice buffet don't we?

The sweet section was a bit strange..

The bartender is friendly, and alcohol is not charged here. We therefore seize the opportunity to try the Australian Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon and Sirah!

Wine tasting session!

AT THE TBIT
We realize that most of the French passengers at the lounge are waiting for the 3pm flight, there is almost no one left for our flight, we really shouldn't miss it!
Especially since our plane is positioned at the new terminal B, at gates 200. So we head for the undergroundway.

Our plane - again a B772

Aircraft: Boeing B777-228ER

ONBOARD THE B772
Another selfie but at the door this time!

Our cabin crew is very cheerful and starts talking to us right away…
"What? 3 weeks in French Polynesia? Ok I won't talk to you anymore!" She turns out to be quite charming, a bit similar to a British / American crew, inviting us to go see her in the galley, that she will serve us a drink!
A small con if I may, it's the only AF crew who didn't get the memo about our honeymoon, so the chain broke somewhere at LAX. We were getting used to it but it's not a big deal.

I chose the 7L seat, which is comfortable, it is the last one before the galley & the toilets, no one behind you so somehow more private. On the other hand, the bad alignment of the window is a tad bothering.

Air France had removed the slippers - I used the ones I took at the hotel (the airline has since re-introduced them)

Cheers!

The heavy duty noise of the GE90 starts to roaar.

What a long flight that must be from Dubai!

Safety video is played during taxi

Last views over the Pacific Ocean..

Last view at LAX

The aperitif is offered to us and I decline the champagne but have a red martini instead.

Not sure which town that was

And then comes the time to go over the Grand Canyon… We ask the crew, who like us are looking at the geovision and think that this is indeed the Grand Canyon.
Then we naively ask the passenger seating on the seat next to us, as she speaks with a strong californian accent…
She tells us that she does not know if it is the Grand Canyon, and it is not because she is American that she should know, besides she is not a pilot either.
What a joy killer!

The Rockies I guess?

Air France always customises the first page of the menu, a nice touch

Scallops as a starter, it's quite noble and not so common.
I hesitated a bit with the cod, then our great cabin crew told us that it was good but nothing exciting, she instead recommends the classic beef, even if it is often overcooked for french palets.

The wine menu is a good representation of the french terroir, and the wine are a tad above the average on what is served on other airlines but lacks a bit of other french wine regions.

The main is brought out at each person's pace and the crew regularly refills the wine and bread.

The saucer was a new addition back in 2022.

Vient ensuite le fromage selon le nouveau protocole, et malheureusement le protocole du verre toujours plein n'a pas été respecté puisqu'il a fallut que je demande à deux reprises au PNC masculin de bien vouloir m'abreuver en Bordeaux.

Unlike BA, on AF you can have cheese AND desserts…
But not only..
The menu does not mention Dessert "or" Fruits .. And for those who read me, I always enjoy fruit on board or in the lounges, it is a touch of freshness which always does good.
A bit of Cognac to go with the dessert is always welcome too!

The Business bar..

Some old movies were also available on the IFE, so I was wathing again the very good Apollo13 movie

The Cirrus seat aren't the newest but still very comfy for a nap.

I woke up about 5 hours later, I asked for an espresso which was served to me this time by our gracious and very friendly female cabin crew member, who took care to wipe away the coffee that had leaked down the cup.

Then the second service is served, a breakfast which fits perfectly into the schedule.

Guernsey I guess?

AT PARIS - ROISSY CHARLES DE GAULLE AIRPORT

When an A332 meets a B773

Never been on this A332 AF yet..

Air France on 789

Last view on our B772 at the M concourse.

Our next flight to Turin is cancelled, a perfect excuse to get my luggage and jump on a TGV High Speed Train service back to Lyon :)

Getting the luggages from CDG was such a nightmare on this occasion we had to wait almost one hour..

That's crazy! This is why I don't like SkyTeam as an alliance, the rules are so inconsistent. I would also think that with SkyTeam Elite+ status or a Business class ticket (in your case both), that you should be allowed to enter any SkyTeam lounge. It's really lame that they would not allow people from their own alliance in the lounge! Honestly the QF lounge is way better anyway, in my opinion.
Exactly, I always pick the last row for that reason. And I love that most people like to be closer to the front so my last row is almost always available, even when booking last minute.
The meals are very elegantly presented. I especially like the presentation of the appetiser course. Also nice sauce container...I remember when when used to have sauce in cheap aluminium cups, so big improvement over the last 10 years.
Overall a lovely flight with a fantastic cabin crew, which always makes the experience even better.
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks mate for stopping by!
Indeed there could be so much change in just 3 weeks ahah
Yes and I thought of you visiting that lounge to sit where you do ehhe
Me too, I always have this weird feeling that people would look at me behind my back, they probably dont but still lol
yes and a few years ago the AF crew was a hit and miss, now the moniques/karens seem to have gone
