Intro
After a terrific weekend in New York with family, I began my adventure to country 99 (or thought that it would be; it turns out summer exams took a turn to the trip once I landed). For this journey, I would be flying on the Delta A330-900neo from New York (JFK) to Atlanta (ATL) in their so-called "Delta One Suites."
The aircraft originally supposed to fly us over to Atlanta was an A330-200, but the day before, I got a notification informing me of an aircraft swap to the 339, thanks to Flighty!

For this leg of the journey, I was quite impressed with the whole Delta experience. Of course, this flight is marketed as "First Class," so none of the amenities were provided, which would have been if it was "Delta One." Nonetheless, it was a very impressive flight.

How I Booked
Originally, I booked a ticket from New York to Atlanta to Quito in Delta One for 72,500 Skypesos. However, the day before departure, saver award space opened up for 47,500 for the whole journey. What a deal!

The whole purpose of this trip was to review the Delta One Lounge at JFK, so this wasn't a bad deal, considering I had some Skymiles to burn.
Delta One Check In New York
My alarm went off at 4:30 am, and I contemplated why I was leaving so early. Then I realized I needed to get some good pics of the Delta One Lounge!

Terminal 8 again, Mr. XXX? Excitedly, not today! After a 2 hour drive, we arrived at Terminal 4.

I informed my amazing driver to drop me by the Delta One sign. Already looking sharp.

Everything is branded to perfection, and Delta has taken Delta One up a notch.

Upon arriving at the entrance, my Delta One access was verified, and I was personally escorted to a check-in booth. I took a seat at one of the desks as the agent explained everything about the Delta One experience. A very, very nice lady.

For evenings, I assume the standing desks are used when it is busier.

The agent offered me a choice of water or a quick snack, but I had to save myself for the lounge.

For the time being, Delta One passengers use the normal security lines. However, beginning next month, there will be a private security checkpoint only for passengers traveling in Delta One. Once I bid farewell to the agent, she pointed me in the way of the lounge after I cleared security.

Delta One Lounge New York Location/Access
Once security is cleared, you simply head to the right and find the Delta One Lounge. When you go to check-in, the Delta agents will inform you of where the lounge is. There is a huge sign which you simply cannot miss.
If you are coming from a domestic connection, head to where the exit is, and there will be an entrance with elevators up to the lounge.

In terms of access, anyone flying on a same-day Delta One ticket (departing or arriving) is eligible to access this lounge.
If you are flying on select partners such as Virgin Atlantic, Latam, and Air France in Business Class, you will also be eligible for access.
Lastly, if you are a Delta 360 member flying on a first-class ticket, you will have access.
Delta One Lounge Around
The Delta One Lounge is huge, with the space capable of holding over 500 people. Once entering the lounge, the picturesque bar shines brightly.

Opposite to the bar is a beautiful room with a faux fireplace. During my time there, I saw a couple of people making phone calls in this room.

There are about 7 different rooms to choose from where to sit. Below are a couple of pictures from some of the different rooms.

But my absolute favorite aspect of the lounge is the outdoor area. The outdoor area has beautiful views overlooking the tarmac, which is suitable for spending hours there doing some work.

Unfortunately, during my time there, the spa was closed. The spa is open from 12 pm onwards and consists of a small table for waiting, a few massage chairs, and some treatment rooms for complementary treatments.

These treatments are free of charge and on a first-come, first-served basis. I recommend going to get on the waitlist when arriving in the lounge.
The Brasserie (the main restaurant), isn't open until 11 am. This leaves customers who are here before or can't get a reservation at the brasserie one other option.

The breakfast offerings at the Market consisted of eggs, french toast, bacon, apple chicken sausages, and a couple of other bits and bobs. The bakery is right next to the market and has sandwiches, bagels, croissants, and most food items bakeries would have.
The main highlight of the Delta One Lounge is the Brasserie. This is an aspect where Delta has finally come up to par with the Chelsea Lounge in New York and the Polaris lounges.
To gain access, a server will be waiting at the front to let you in. It is on a first come, first served basis, and reservations are made through Resy.

It is truly a gorgeous-looking restaurant that makes you wonder how this is in an airport.

Just wow

I was greeted by my server for the day, who would turn out to be wonderful. I was presented with a cocktail list, including some premium wines and the menu for the day.
I decided to order everything at once since I was boarding soon.

For a starter, I went with the Hamachi Crudo, which was truly sublime. Warm bread was brought over to me, along with some butter.

For the main course, I decided on the Wagyu steak frites medium rare. It was a 5-star restaurant quality steak cooked in a perfect medium rare. Another amazing course.

Since this was a special day (or so I thought, sometimes school can be annoying as much as I love it), I opted to order a half bottle of Tattinger to celebrate country number 99. For 3,000 Skymiles, this was a bargain.

About 10 minutes after my steak was cleared, my final course came out. While the caramel tart sounded good, I had to go with the signature chocolate souffle. Truly a divine way to finish the meal😱.

Service was phenomenal here, as the manager of the restaurant came around to check in at each table multiple times during the meal.
Another highlight of the lounge is the quality of the showers. The showers are located in the very back of the lounge and has an agent working around the clock to assist you.
Upon arriving, the agent escorted me to one of the shower suites and informed me of some cool features.

Yes, you are seeing this correctly: bathrobes in a business-class lounge. Wow!

One of the most incredible aspects was a free streaming service for your clothes when you are in the shower. The agent informed me that if I wanted to leave my clothes, they would be steamed and returned in this slide-out drawer 10 minutes later. Wow.

There were plenty of amenities available as well, such as a shaving kit, deodorant, and facial cleanser.

Boarding
Boarding was supposed to commence at 12:15 pm, but during my time in the lounge, we were informed of a delay of 20 minutes. I proceeded to gate B28 around 12:15 pm for our updated boarding time of 12:30 pm.

Thankfully, boarding commenced at 12:25 pm, as I was due to have a short layover in Atlanta.

I settled into my seat, 7K, the second last row on the left side of the aircraft.

The Seat/Cabin
My first impression of the cabin was, wow, this is beautiful! At only 28 seats and supposedly private closing doors, this is a fantastic way to fly.

If you are flying solo, I recommend selecting seats in even rows, such as 2,4,6,8, and by the windows, as these are more private. However, with closing doors, any seat on this plane is good.

Here is an example of a window seat in an even row (8K).

To the next of every seat lay a headphone holder and a light for reading.

Seat controls were just below that and worked well. It should, considering the aircraft is just over a year old. I do wish that Delta had installed USB-C plugs on this aircaft.

My favorite addition to the seat is the little cubby, which is perfect for storing a pair of shoes.

The footwell is spacious enough, but not as spacious as American Airlines 777 Business Class.

The closing door didn't work on this flight, but I didn't feel much need as it was private enough.

Amenities/IFE
For a domestic flight, Delta really showed out in terms of basic amenities. While a small gesture, a miniature bottle of water was placed at the seat.

A very nice pair of headphones were offered, which worked perfectly as I indulged in a movie.

In terms of IFE, the whole system felt very modern, had plenty of options, and was extremely responsive. Top marks here, Delta.

Unfortunately, I forgot to check on the Wi-Fi costs, but I imagine it's much cheaper than an American Airlines widebody. 😂
Departure
Approximately 5 minutes after settling into my seat, an FA greeted me, asking me for my choice of pre-departure beverage. I decided on a glass of sparkling wine.

Cabin doors were closed, and we pushed back 35 minutes behind schedule at 1:15.

It was a short taxi out to 31L for our early afternoon departure. Interestingly, I saw a couple of planes taking off from 13L that morning, which is a very, very rare occurrence.

Flaps were down, and we were wheels up by 1:29 pm.

The Flight
With a flight time of 2 hours, I decided to switch on the Hunger Games and begin the long movie.

The flight attendant seemed to be a junior flight attendant, and was very fun the whole flight! I've decided that I like junior flight attendants more in general. One more glass of sparkling wine and a couple of snacks before calling it a day.

Arrival
About an hour and a half later, we began circling due to weather in the Atlanta area.

However, we eventually got clearance and made our way down into the ATL.

We ended up touching down at 3:28 pm local time.

And pulled into gate E28 at 3:36 pm.

I headed up to the cockpit to have a conversation with the captain and FO, grabbed a couple of pictures, and headed off to the Atlanta terminal for about 20 minutes before getting a dreaded email. Time to change plans.
As always thanks for reading! Apologies that it was long but wanted to share an in depth look at the new D1 lounge and experience.
An aircraft swap that worked out better!
I'm actually kind of surprised that they consider a JFK-ATL-UIO itinerary to be Delta One, since usually Northern South America gets treated like short-haul Business, on most airlines anyway. I see they run mostly 757s with Domestic F on ATL-UIO, but I'm guessing you booked one of the few 767s on the route?
Wow, the Delta One experience at JFK is very premium, from the check-in to the amazing lounge---it's perfection. Definitely well above anything you'd expect for Business class...getting into First class territory since it's comparable to the BA F check-in experience at LHR.
Before I even saw what the restaurant section of the D1 Lounge was called I thought "hmm, that looks Parisian" Hah...so I guess that's really what they were going for with the "brasserie" and they did a great job conveying the look feel of a Parisian brasserie (in an upscale way). Love it!
The menu would not look out of place in a French brasserie and flowing Taittinger makes all the more fancy, while not being pretentious. DL really did an amazing job with this lounge.
Beautiful cabin and standard Domestic F service. Except for the headphones, that's def better than Domestic F amenities. IME AA don't hand out the headphones when they run widebodies on non-Premium Domestic routes, so good on Delta!
HAH! The ONE movie I wanted to see that didn't work on my AA SYD-LAX...I've finally seen it since on another plane haha
It's honestly nice to see some good Delta reviews considering the operational mess they've been the past few weeks since the IT meltdown, taking 5X longer than any other carrier to recover and leaving tens of thousands stranded. This looks like it was right on the edge of the mess...I'm guessing you were affected since the UIO leg isn't there 😒
If that's the case, I really commend you on your objectivity on the product! The mark of a truly great flight reviewer 🏆
When something unpleasant goes down I always have to fight that tendency to want to paint everything in a crappier light haha.
Thanks for this beautifully detailed first look at the amazing JFK Delta One Lounge!
Hi Kevin, thanks for all of your comments!
Interestingly, they begin running 757s on the route starting Monday😅, so I knew I had to hop on this opportunity quickly. It is very nice that they market UIO as D1 (I think perhaps that is coming to an end).
It’s almost there, nothing is like when you walk up to the beautiful gold wing, and a friendly british accent greets you😂.
I’m quite suprised just how good the menu was. I will be curious to see if they keep this kind of menu around as it must be quite expensive to be hiring French and Japanese known chefs. Who knows, but for now it’s incredible.
The best part, they didn’t take them away 30 minutes AAfter takeoff🥴.
How was it in the end?? Actually don’t spoil it becasue I never got to finish😒.
One way or another I was affected, but I do think that it’s only right to give Delta full marks on the leg that I flew, as everything was truly perfect. Perhaps once I get to the other reviews I’ll explain. I agree, and it took a little urge for me not to paint it in a crappier light 😂. But still, back to Star Alliance and Oneworld that’s for sure! Thank you for your kind words🙂.
Thanks again for stopping by Kevin, and have a great day!
