Hi Guys, this is my first flight report.
I was heading to Singapore with my family for a short leisure trip last January. After comparing schedules and prices through an agent we chose MH in which we have to transfer at KUL. Even though UL, SQ and EK provides direct flights to SIN we decided for this option as it includes two codeshare flights of two other operators thus giving us more variety in the same trip.
We arrived at Colombo (Katunayake) Airport about 10.30 pm via the new Expressway. The airport gets busy mostly during the night.
Split flap and digital displays.
At Check-in. There is a quite large Sri Lankan expat community living in Australia but no direct flights are operated to Aussie cities from here. Passengers have to transfer at BKK, KUL, SIN or HKG. In this flight also there were many passengers who had onward connections to Australia. Check-in was smooth and since we checked-in online our baggage was taken and boarding passes were issued in matter of seconds. Overall it took not more than 10 minutes.
After passing security and immigration we had some refreshments and came to the viewing gallery.
UL aircrafts parked on the apron.
Our flight arrives at the gate. 9M-MLR. (Sorry for the mark on the glass!)
Airside of the terminal. Below are the remote gates, Gate 1 to 4.
Boarding gates 6 to 14 have jetways.
SQ flight to SIN at the gate next to ours. It departed few mins after we took off and it was flying almost parallel to us. We had a good race with it!
Boarding was called and we settled to our seats. The plane was full tonight.
Leg room was bit tight. But OK.
Cabin shot
We took off about 20 mins behind the scheduled departure time.
Bye bye Colombo…
After reaching cruising altitude cabin crew started distributing meals.
Its 2.00 a.m. in Colombo and 4.30 a.m. in KL but we were given a full meal. For the main it was chicken or fish biriyani rice with fried eggplant and for dessert fresh fruits and chocolate cake were served. A choice of fruit juices, soft drinks and wine were offered as drinks. My chicken biriyani was spicy and tasty, and desserts complemented well.
Over Indonesia
KLIA in sight
We landed 10 mins earlier.
KLIA's main terminal. Home of Malaysia Airlines.
Our crew, they did a good job.
Checking where should we go for our next flight.
We had to move to the satellite terminal to board our flight to SIN. So in to the skytrain…
See you soon with KUL - SIN flight report..
Impressive catering for a red eye.
Indeed, I was expecting a light breakfast or a snack. But this was a pleasant surprise.
Thank you for this first report and welcome here :)
I may be wrong but I think you're the first member from Sri Lanka ! Are you aware that you're leaving in the Mecca of good fares ^^ ? And a beautiful country too.
The catering looks pretty good. I'm saying this because this is Economy and I recently flew on MH in Business class and trust me, I got more or less the same catering !
Thanks again for sharing !
Thanks a lot for the compliments :) Me too believe I'm the first one from here. Yes, outbound fares are often cheap but visa free travel is limited and obtaining a visa beyond south/south east asia is not that easy. Sri Lanka is a beautiful little island with lot of attractions and visitors are always welcomed.
Catering was impressive for economy standards but surely for business they should do better than this.
Welcome and thank you for sharing this nice FR.
Meal looks decent and MH uniforms ia always an eye catcher.
Thank You for the feedback. Totally agree on the point about MH uniforms.
Thanks for sharing this very good first report with lots of details. It's nice that MH serves a full meal on this short overnight flight.
