I have found pictures of a trip to Asia I did a few years ago when looking through my external hard-drives. We were going to Singapore and Denpasar. I don't have that many pictures of the flight but enough to do a nice FR.
I will take you onboard Singapore Airlines A340-500 which were back then equipped with both Business and Executive Economy class. Right now all Airbus 340-500 are equipped with Business Class only and the fleet should be retired very soon.
So Welcome on Board this FR featuring the Singapore Airlines Airbus 340-500 for the first time.
My partner and I flew in the night before on Air France from Papeete and we spent the day in a hotel near the airport.
The next day we leave the hotel in the courtesy shuttle for Tom Bradley International Airport or TBIT. The driver will drop us off just outside the terminal right under the SQ sign.
We go to the check-in counters that are rather empty. The aircraft doesn't have that many seats, so not that many customers and it is normal to have no one waiting at the counters. We did online check-in 48hours before the flight so we got our preselected seats 36A and 36C
Before we go airside we have a stroll outside to check if our plane is here and who is park around it. Our Airbus 9V-SGD is flanked by a China Airlines Boeing 747-400 and another Boeing 747-400 owned by Air India.
We go to the DutyFree Shops to check what's new but will get out without buying a thing, which is good, it'll leave us more money for our vacations !
After going through security we go wait at the gate. To pass time I take pictures of our ship !
While we are waiting we see F-GLZT, the Airbus that flew us to LAX from PPT the day before. He had time to go back to Tahiti and to LAX again.
We board on time and we are rather impressed by the Executive Economy cabin.
Take off is towards the Pacific Ocean, as usual and our Airbus starts its voyage home to Singapore.
Shortly after take-off the crew will hand out the earphones, than the comfort kit and finally the menu.
I don't have a picture of the menu but this is what is offered.

Very tempting menu ! Our crew will first serve pre-meal drinks and we both went for the famous Singapore Sling served with an assortments of nuts and asian crackers.
The crew is all smiles, very caring and you don't feel rushed. They will come and offer seconds but I will turn it down…
I navigate the entertainment program Krisworld. I elect to watch The Queen with Dame Helen Mirren
After picking up the empty glasses from our drinks, the crew will serve the meal, I choose the shrimps and my partner will pick the chicken. A small glass of white wine to go with the meal.
I truly enjoyed the moonlighting with the pink-purple tones in the cabin. Anyway… our cabin attendant will once again offer us another glass of wine or water and will finally offer us some ice-cream for dessert.
After clearing the trays, the crew will turn down the light and will then turn off the lights completely.
I will watch a movie or two and during that time the crew will offer a snack, a fruit or some chocolates. I then fall asleep after a few hours in the very comfortable seats !
Before leaving LAX I was very worried to leave for a 16+ hour of flight and I nearly screamed when the captain announced a flight time of 17h12mn !!! But after all I didn't see the time fly and I slept a full 7 hours nonstop and I woke up above Japan.
After I woke up I went to the rear of the Airbus to see if I could get something to snack on. The curtain was closed so I pushed it and behind it the purser was waiting for passengers and offered me a drink or a snack. There was only water available self serve but she tells me she can get me any other drinks. I grad a cereal bar and a peach yogurt and 2 glasses of water and I go back to my seat to watch more movies. The crew will continue to force feed us sandwiches or chocolates ! There is so much to eat we nearly exploded ! The crew will walk through the cabin with water and orange juice as well.
3 hours, yes THREE HOURS before we arrive in Singapore the lights are turned on in the cabin and the crew starts to serve breakfast.
I pick the noodles and my partner the omelette.
The noodles were AMAZING !!!
A couple more pictures of the cabin after the breakfast service, some people are sleeping, others, like us are watching another movie.
The crew will go through the cabin to tidy up before our arrival in Singapore

Conclusion
Singapore Airlines at its best during 17h12 !!!
Departure on time with no problems, with so little people it is difficult to depart late.
The seat was very comfortable, only drawback is the legrest and the footrest is divided in 2 and can be rather uncomfortable.
The crew was all smiles, attentive, caring and won't stop feeding us. Minor drawback is waking us up 3 hours before arrival in Singapore to serve us breakfast... a little early, 2 hours before arrival is the maximum I think !
A perfect mark for the meals, indeed each dish was excellent !

Merci pour ce FR sur le deuxième plus long vol commercial après EWR-SIN. Comment se sent-on après 17h de vol? Surtout, ne pas prendre AirAsiaX sur ce vol!
Ayant bien dormi pendant le vol, aucuns problèmes à l\'arrivée et honnêtement je n\'ai pas sentit les 17 heures... Je suis même prêt à refaire ce vol !

Pourquoi SQ n\'a pas acheter des 77L car il ont une plus grande autonomie que le 345 (17400 km au lieu de 16700 km), pour le vol EWR-SIN cela permet une plus grande marge de man'uvre en cas de pépin. EWR-SIN, ça fait 16600 km soit la limite de l\'autonomie d\'un A340-500, c\'est dangereux je trouve...des 77L auraient été mieux, je pense (je dis pas ça parce que je préfère le 777 à l\'A340 !!) Mais le 345 est sorti en 2002 et le 77L en 2006.
Oula, je serais tenter d\'essayer un vol de 17h non stop, mais juste une fois pour tester quoi. Déjà qu\'un vol de 9h je pète un câble, alors un vol de 17 heures... LOL Merci pour ce FR complet en tout cas! On aurait dit que vous aviez prévu d\'en faire un FR quelques années après :)
Merci pour ce FR qui sera probablement un collector. Les prestations sont plus correctes et c\'est clair qu\'ils vous ont plutôt bien nourris. Ya intétêt d\'avoir pas mal à manger à bord quand on emmène des PAX sur d\'aussi longues distances pendant aussi longtemps. @A32X77WL: Les autonomies qui sont données pour les avions de ligne ne tiennent pas compte des différences d\'aménagement cabine, on peut donc considérer que l\'écart entre le 345 et le 77L est marginal dans un premier temps. Par contre à sa mise en service, le 345 avait le gros avantage d\'être un quadri et d\'emprunter une route océanique plus \directe\ que celle qu\'aurait emprunté un gros biréacteur. Entre temps, l\'évolution des restrictions ETOPS + le prix du JET A1 qui a fortement augmenté ont eu raison de la supériorité de l\'A340 sur ce type de route.
@A32X77WL Je rajoute par rapport a ce qu\'a dit fredotoga qui est tout a fait exact, que la raison du choix du 345 s\'explique aussi qu\'a l\'epoque le 77L n\'existait tout simplement pas.

Il ne reste plus longtemps pour effectuer un SIN-EWR/LAX, les deux plus longs vols commerciaux actuels. SQ rend à Airbus ses A340-500 l\'an prochain...
Impressionnant... Etant claustrophobe, 10h d\'avion pour aller en Chine, même si j\'adore l\'avion, j\'appréhendais un peu, mais au final tout s\'est bien passé, j\'adore les longs courriers, Los Angeles Singapour, j\'aimerais bien)))) 17h)))
Au fait, savez vous que l'A340-542 a été jugé meilleur A340 par Airbus ??? Il est incroyable cet avion, j'en suis fan ainsi que du -600 qui est mon préféré :D
