Hello everyone!

Welcome to this flight report of QR264 from Warsaw Chopin to Doha on a lovely June day I have long been waiting for. This flight was the first leg of my trip to Singapore (the most beautiful city I have ever been to), where I flew with my two travel companions Asia & Agata, who have never let me down.

This was my first trip with Qatar Airways so I was really curious what the journey will be like. Needless to say my expectations were high, as Qatar is the best airline in the world (Skytrax 2019). Let's see what they offer on a 5:35 flight to the Middle East.

Not too many details on the mobile boarding pass provided by Qatar…

At the airport

Apologies, but we were so excited for the trip that I didn't manage to take any photos Warsaw Airport. But I can assure you I will show you Chopin's airport in my future reviews, as I fly quite often from here.

Qatar's check in at Warsaw is in Zone AB and very well organised and there was someone from Qatar to supervise the process. The queue was fine, around 10-15 mins waiting. We checked our bags directly to Singapore. Actually, we were checked in at the business class counter on the red carpet because there was no one from business class to get checked in at that time ;)

We checked in quite late this time and so afterwards we bought some drinks and then directly proceeded to our gate 15N/16N in the Non-Schengen area (the very far North end of the airport).

Boarding

Very well organised boarding procedure where economy class passengers were divided into 3 groups boarded sequentially from the back to the front, so that people don't get stuck in the aisle. Very friendly welcome from the lovely crew, who we "made friends with at the very" beginning of the flight (and they offered us extra food portions later haha).

At the entrance of the airplane, a business class bar with a bouquet of roses - a nice touch from QR!

The forward section of this A350-900 economy cabin. I am however seated by the window today, 33K.

Seat area

Qatar's seat on this, older version of A350 is really very comfortable. Having a comparison with their new seat product on A350-1000, I find the "older one" more comfortable personally. In the seat area there were already a pillow, a blanket and headphones already waiting for us. No amenity kit however, as this was a day-time flight.

photo img_7542

Very!! good legroom in this A350. I am 1.86m tall. And no entertainment box under the seat, unlike e.g. their A330.

photo img_7541

My IFE screen was a bit scratched, yet this posed no problem to me. Its size was just perfect and the selection of movies/TV series/audio in Oryx One entertainment system is literally enormous!

Now my favourite feature of this IFE… the exterior HD cameras! At the neighbour gates: LOT 787, AirBelgium A340 (operating for LOT) and Air Canada Rouge 767.

Inflight

We departed pretty much on time from Warsaw, not too much traffic this Thursday. Then made a sharp, 180 degrees turn to the left to be heading in direction Doha! I took a few photos of the pretty full cabin on this flight. However despite the number of people travelling on this flight, it didn't seem overcrowded - perhaps due to its large windows and very high ceiling which makes the cabin more spacious. The advantage of seating in this back economy section is the wonderful view over the A350 wings.

photo img_7547

Off we go to Doha! A350 is really quiet during take off and landing.

The cabin is spacious and airy with lots of light coming through the windows. And some nice arabic touches like the piece of art on the back wall.

Food & beverages

I heard a lot of good things about Qatar meals so I expected some high quality and well-tasting food which reflects the diversity of destinations Qatar flies to. And they didn't let me down! The menus were distributed by the lovely crew a few minutes after departure. The service on this flight was done as follows:
- drinks of choice at the beginning (cold drinks), of course I took their amazing mango juice
- the main meal service approx. 1 hour after departure
- After the meal we were offered a tea (black or green) or coffee
- The crew passed through the cabin with drinks multiple times (served from the tray)
- Approx. 1 hour before arrival we were served a "movie snack" with turned out to be a small bag of pop corn

The undisputable advantage of seats in row 33 is that you get served as one of the first passengers (service in this section of cabin starts with row 30), so you still have the choice of the dish :)

Menu for today's flight. I chose the chicken picadillo. I find it a very warm touch that they give out menus in economy class.

photo img_7553photo img_7554

The meal turned out to be delicious, especially the starter. Very good portion as well. And metal cutlery!
One more thing to mention - the seat tray table is big enough to accommodate the meal tray, which is not always the case…

By the way, one of my friends took the pasta dish and it turned out to be very good as well. However I heard a few people from the back of the plane complaining about the lamb (so maybe consider not taking it should you have a similar menu on your flight with Qatar).

Who doesn't like eating in such conditions?!

Landing in doha and deplaning

Before landing in Doha the crew went through the cabin once again to collect some remaining rubbish and then prepared the cabin for landing. We made a sharp right turn over the water to land into DOH "from the south". Unfortunately we parked at a remote stand and had to get to the terminal by bus (even though most of the jet bridges were free). This meant that we were able to experience the scorching heat of Doha in June with a quite strong and very hot wind. This also meant I could take a few photos of this magnificent A350 bird from the outside. What definitely deserves praise, is that there were enough busses to take us to the terminal so that we didn't have to squeeze… and also the bus had working air condition (unlike this is the case in Warsaw sometimes).

I managed to take a photo of an "unused" business class seat when deplaning. Maybe one day…

Immense RR engine of "our" bird.

Connection at doha

Doha was not our final destination this time, we had a 4 our break before our next flight to Singapore (QR942). I have to say, DOH seems to be the best airport for connections I have ever been to. Very well organised, not too many people (or maybe that's not the time when most arrivals come), clean and very easy to navigate! And with a very stylish interior. So I have to say the connection was very pleasant and I will not hesitate to choose DOH for my connecting airport again.

Just one photo from our evening departure do Singapore Changi (QR942) over the city of Doha.

Conclusion

Qatar offered an excellent product on this route from Warsaw to Doha. With beautiful, spacious and clean cabin of A350, friendly and professional crew, tasty food and good entertainment system they really make the time fly. If I were to pick on something, although this will really be my personal fancy - the second meal service was not ideal to me, as I am not a great fan of pop corn. I would appreciate a wider selection of snacks to choose from in the second service, or maybe ice cream for such hot weather? But all in all I have no doubt Qatar deserves being the best airline in the world - at least judging on my experience with them in June 2019.

Hey, thanks for this warm welcome here ?

In fact when I booked the flight, it was supposed to be A330 but a while after my purchase they switched to A350 which was a really pleasant surprise!

Cześć! Thanks for this very detailed report. Nice to see a modern A350 on this route, A333 wasn't that comfortable with this IFE box under the seat. A350 is indeed very quiet. Was there any snack offered before landing too? Great night shot of Doha! Waiting for your next report. All the best!

      Cześć Loukas ?

I had the "pleasure" to try Qatar's A330 on the way back (DOH-WAW) and... yeah it is not the same ?

Before the landing, only a small bag of pop corn which I forgot to take picture of :(

Witamy w Fight-Report, Matthevv! Thanks for sharing this nice and detailed report with us. Qatar offers a very nice product in coach, that's for sure. The legroom is especially nice! It's good to hear that you got a nice crew, as I've heard mixed things about QR crews. The food looks quite tasty as well, and it sure is nice that they offer menus in the back. Looking forward to reading more reports from you ?

Hi Matthevv, thanks for sharing your first report here with us! Very nicely written and well-organised review. The legroom is definitely impressive, especially since you mention you are 1.86m tall! The good legroom paired with the wider seats of the A350 vs 787 and the good catering certainly makes for an excellent and well-rounded Economy experience by today's standards. QR are certainly deserving of your high rating for this 5.5h flight.

Thanks again for sharing and welcome to Flight-Report! I look forward to more reports in the future!

Thanks Kévin for your positive comment. Qatar definitely stands out, especially for a person like me, who mostly travels with European carriers.
I will be posting a few new reports from my older trips over a few weeks time, I hope :)
      All the best!
