INTRODUCTION

2020 is not a bad year for whole. I've started the year with a short trip to one of my favourite country, Taiwan. With a good connection from my state that is Sabah plus a very decent ticket price offered by the World's best low cost airlines AirAsia everything look possible. Kota Kinabalu (BKI) is connected to Taipei-Taoyuan daily operated by AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines. TigerAir Taiwan used to operate this route but was ceased in 2016.

The whole trip will be as below;
Kota Kinabalu (BKI) to Taipei-Taoyuan (TPE) - AirAsia
Taipei-Taoyuan (TPE) to Hong Kong (HKG) - Hong Kong Airlines
Hong Kong (HKG) to Kuala Lumpur (KUL) - AirAsia

On my way back to Malaysia, there were a few choice to go for. Via Manila on Cebu Pacific Airways, via Ho Chi Minh City on Vietjet, via Singapore on Scoot and Hong Kong on Hong Kong Airlines + AirAsia. So, I chose the later just to get a new flying experience with Hong Kong Airlines.

FLYING DAY

I arrived at Kota Kinabalu International Airport quiet early.

At KKIA, security clearance is made separately at every gate similarly to Singapore's Changi and KL Airport.

As it was Thursday, I reckoned flight will be not full. After boarding completed I can simply count the whole number of passengers on this flight. Obviously very empty.

As I said Taiwan is one of my favourite county, I've been flying to Taipei like every year since 2018 and from my past experience Taipei - Kota Kinabalu flight usually will be almost full.

 Soon after took off, flight attendant pull the cart down the aisle to deliver pre-purchased meal. I could say AirAsia's inflight meal is very delicious and even better compared to Malaysia Airlines'. Beside the famous Pak Nasser Nasi Lemak, the Roasted Chicken also is a must try! Every purchase of meal came with complimentary drink or hot coffee. MYR10 ($2.47) . I think for $2.47 usually you can only buy drink on most of low cost carriers in other places :D

Arrival Form into Taiwan the Republic of China also were distributed.
As it was a morning flight, I fall asleep until the captain announced our descent and approached into Taipei.

Excited to start the year of 2020 with a short trip to Taiwan (just before everything changed 2 months later :( … )

Immigration was simple however that time temperature scanners were already put everywhere around the arrival hall of the airport.

Thank you for reading this short flight report. 2020 is going to its end very soon. This is the only way to refresh this page. A little throwback won't hurt :)

Conclusion

I never expect 2020 will be as tragic as what had happened now. A few trips were forced to cancelled due to Covid-19 (I bet everyone got the same situation like me) but I wish 2021 will be better and the storm shall pass very soon.
