Report No: 2022-802

Dear folks,

Welcome to this brand new series where I originally intended to fly 3 different US domestic products which I have never flown before but schedule changes and cancellations ruined the original plan of the trip so I had to make some modifications on my mini side trip within the United States of America.

After Breeze Airways cancelling 2 rotations per week on their Nashville to Hartford route, which ended up going to 2 weekly from 4 during the summer, their operating dates didn't fit my schedule so I was unable to try their A220's and their First Class on this series which I was eagerly waiting for. However, I was able to find an Allegiant flight to Pittsburgh so that I could make up a missed trip and another missed airline product that I was supposed to fly earlier during the summer.

So indeed, this report would cover my 2nd Allegiant flight, this time onboard their Airbus A319, at an exit row seat. Since there were no lounges that I could visit, no lounges would be covered at this episode.

So the original itinerary for this trip was as following, but flight #2 had been cancelled, which required a change to the itinerary.

Routing

  • G4 2581 Washington Dulles to Nashville ( Economy Class ), Airbus A320 Not available
  • MX 521 Nashville to Hartford ( Nicest Class ), Airbus A220-300 Not available
  • WN 2264 Hartford to Baltimore ( Economy Class ), Boeing 737-700 Not available

However the actual itinerary is as below

Loads for this flight

On the day of travel, since I had a day pass for public transportation at Nashville, I decided to go to the airport by bus.

photo 20220808_124430-min

At the transfer center, I transferred to bus 18 which is the bus line going to the airport from the city.

photo 20220808_125429-min

While some buses on this route are express and going through the interstate freeway, some of them go through local stops and my ride was from the longer route with local stops around suburbs. Despite that, the ride did only take 30-35 minutes.

NASHVILLE AIRPORT - BNA

About 70 minutes before the flight, I have arrived at the parking lot of the airport, where buses to drop/pick up passengers.

It's a short walk from the garage to the terminal

Construction is going on at the airport as they are modernizing the terminal

photo 20220808_133655-min-99468

Since the central area of the terminal building is under construction, the only terminal of the airport was split into two ( North and South Terminals ) with no airside connection. Allegiant uses the South Terminal.

FIDS for the day

Security was a breeze with close to zero wait and the area was pretty organized with every lane clearly being marked whether it was for Regular passengers, Priority or TSA Pre.

photo 20220808_134039-min-74305

After security, it was time to turn right towards C gates which Allegiant Air utilizes.

photo 20220808_134424-min-13987

The beginning of the concourse is under construction with gates C1 to C3 out of service.

photo 20220808_134541-min

I was at the gate about 50 minutes before scheduled departure time which is 5 minutes before scheduled boarding time and…

photo 20220808_134619-min-71113

The gate is empty with no gate agents being present, at that time no delay was announced as well.

I spent some time doing planespotting by starting with this JetBlue A320

Continuing with this Delta 717 parked at gate B8

And watching landings as well including the landing of this United Express Embraer.

A couple of minutes later, our aircraft was visible and parking at the gate

N325NV was arriving from Pittsburgh as G4 2064.

The jetbridge was connected and the passengers starting deplaning the aircraft.

photo 20220808_135828

Boarding started around 25-30 minutes before departure with the respect of groups. Since Allegiant offers an earlier boarding position for those sitting in the exit row, I was one of the first passengers boarding the aircraft.

G4 2076 NASHVILLE AIRPORT TO PITTSBURGH AIRPORT

After being welcomed by the crew, I have took my seat 14F which is located at the exit row.
Since I have paid a bundle including flexibility, a carry-on and seat selection, I paid a small amount to upgrade my seat to this row.

photo 20220808_141909-min

The legroom is pretty decent, however, the seat width was too tight and the aisle was wider than most other airlines A320 series aircraft that I have flown on.

Our neighbor was another Allegiant A319

The aircraft still had signs from its old operator, the orange airline of Europe

photo 20220808_142817-13030

Boarding was completed on time and I didn't have any neighbors for this flight. The advantage of flying a low-cost airline is that many people wouldn't pay for an exit row seat and the airline wouldn't assign them unless they necessarily have to, thus it's pretty likely to get an empty seat next to you unless on a fully booked flight.

Despite boarding started later than scheduled, push back was right on time

N401YX which is a Republic Airways E-175 operated for American Eagle was parked at gate C8.

While taxiing, this United 737 was visible, preparing to take off.

As well as this Delta A319

There were also a private jet taxiing at that time.

While we were almost at the start of the runway, this Southwest 737-MAX-8 had just arrived from Milwaukee

Shortly later we took off

photo 20220808_152310

Compared to my earlier Allegiant flight, this flight was more uneventful with a more quieter crew, which didn't appear other than the BoB service, collecting trash and landing checks.

Another Allegiant aircraft at the terminal

photo 20220808_165937-min

American Airlines aircraft being visible. American Airlines is one of the strongest carriers in PIT with lots of mainline and regional service but I wouldn't say that Pittsburgh is one of their hubs but rather than that would call it a focus-city.

photo 20220808_165953-min

After a short taxi, we have parked at gate B42 next to this Allegiant A319.

After leaving the aircraft, I took this fuselage shot

The last photo of N325NV from the terminal

photo 20220808_170526

The terminal was pretty empty that evening; it really surprises me that Pittsburgh has a huge terminal but most of the gates are always empty due to the lack of flights, especially the international concourse to be honest.

Arrival FIDS

photo 20220808_170855

Since the next bus, 28X to Pittsburgh downtown wouldn't be departing in a couple of minutes as I had just missed one, I decided to have a coffee at Starbucks before heading landside and at the same time, I was charging my phone as well.

photo 20220808_171429

Laterwards, it was time to head towards the exit.

photo 20220808_173437

Since all flights at PIT depart from a concourse in the middle of the airport, it is required to take an AirTrain to the check-in/arrivals hall, in order to exit the airport.

photo 20220808_173634-59380

The AirTrain ride is short and during the ride there was an announcement regarding British Airways resuming flights to Pittsburgh.

photo 20220808_173903-min

Since I didn't have baggage, it was time for me to head towards Door 2

photo 20220808_174010-min-64159

Which is the closest door to the bus stop which bus 28X stops at.

photo 20220808_174131-min

With decent time planning, I didn't wait much for the bus

photo 20220808_174213-min-33593

As the bus arrived on time; despite the bus being non-articulated, there were plenty of seats available and it was a smooth ride to downtown Pittsburgh where my hotel was located at.

photo 20220808_175634-min-40363

And here is a photo of Pittsburgh that I took the same evening.

Conclusion

To conclude this report, I could say that this was a pretty uneventful flight and paying a little bit extra for the exit row was worth it, especially after getting an empty seat next to me since Allegiant has higher seat width compared to other competitors. For this occasion, they offered a significant price saving compared to other carriers and it was OK to fly them for this short flight but on longer flights with them, I would recommend those future passengers to be prepared to have something to entertain themselves as they do not offer any kind of entertainment except for their inflight magazine and they do not offer Wi-Fi.
