Review of Lufthansa flight Singapore Frankfurt in Business

Hi,

As I transferred from another flight on a very tight connection, me and some other passengers where shuttled by a small cart from the arrival gate to the departure gate of this flight - actually a very good organized transfer service of Singapore Airport!

Once I arrived at my gate boarding had already started and soon I was entering this very old Airbus 340-300 of Lufthansa. Also the Business Class product of Lufthansa is no longer up to today's standards and offers no privacy or stowage area at all.

I had this seat in the center block and row 2.

Waiting at the seat were a big pillow, a good quality blanket and a sleeping mattress cover for the seat for the night.

The only stowage area at the seat under the TV screen was already filled with a bottle of water and the bag style amenity kit.

The amenity kit offers most important essentials although the overall appearance looks rather cheap in my opinion.

Noise cancelling headsets are fixed to the seat and are stored in the center armrest under the armrest.


Most of the cabin crew were rather friendly and in good mood and soon offering several rounds of welcome drinks while on the ground. I had some sparkling wine.

Next printed menus were distributed.

Due to bad weather over Malaysia we had to wait some more ca. 30 minutes on the ground before the old lady finally climbed into the dark night with her four engines.

The flight this night should take extremely long 13 hours 30 minutes due to some detour because of very bad winds across India.


Service started quickly with the distribution of a rather poor quality hot towel - but at least they are back now with Lufthansa as well.

About 20 minutes later table clothes were laid out and the drink trolleys appeared in the aisle for aperitif service.

Starter and main course choices were taken by the crew and soon I was served my choice of salmon starter on a tray and offered some bread from a basket. The salmon was nice but the bread was dry and almost cold already when served.

Main course ws next - however the medley of prawns and scallops was really disappointing as it missed almost any flavour and it was not of high quality.

For dessert I only took the cheese plate and skipped the cake.

Hot drinks and some chocolates ended the supper service.

Pyjamas were distributed which was surprising to me but nice.

The night was extremely long - but at least I could still find some hours of some kind of sleep. The seat actually is very narrow, especially in the foot box area. On the other side it looks to be at least longer than some other seats and actually you can find a rather comfortable sleeping position.


About two hours out of Frankfurt cabin lights were turned on for breakfast service. Unfortunately no hot towels were offered after that long night.


I was asked for my main dish choice and opted for the omelette dish.

Warm croissants and breads were offered from a basket and I asked for some jam with it as none was on the tray. Then the unfriendly flight attendant just answered: she does not have any; they should have come on the inbound flight into Singapore from Frankfurt but her 'stupid' colleague on that flight did not keep some spares for this flight but used all on the previous flight to Singapore. This was a shocking answer - especially as Lufthansa looks to rely on some catering parts coming from Germany also for their Longhaul flights back to Germany! Hopefully at least their main meals are catered fresh at the foreign destinations…


Th breakfast was ok but again, similar to supper, really nothing to remember.


Finally we started descend and landed with some delay at Frankfurt.

Conclusion

This was a rather sub standard Business Class longhaul flight: a very old plane with an outdated seat and very mediocre meals. Actually I was disappointed by this Lufthansa offering and hope they will improve soon - especially with the quality of their meals. A new cabin product also finally is on the horizon for the next years.

    Do LH/QF have agreement cross-alliance? How does transfer between carriers work?

    Upper deck B747 and A380 window seats are the only to get more storage :) LH (like LX) has gone through so many evolutions of the amenity kits, they briefly had the blue pencil bags and the brown leather pouches, but appear to have already gone back to the “eco” version. Good to see the sleeping shirts appear, are slippers offered on flights to Asia?

    Overall, LH is a very lackluster product long haul that is need of a hard product refresh. Hopefully the refurbishments of cabins will also come with some catering enhancements.
